Chapter 983: Chapter 983: To Beidu (5)

Jiaojiao knew the Shu Family was wealthy—extremely, unimaginably wealthy, ranked among the elite in all of Beidu.

But she hadn’t expected them to be rich to this extent.

From the moment the car entered the Shu Family estate, her mouth had stayed wide open in disbelief.

She stared at the endless expanse of the gardens ahead, her eyes wide, struggling to process what she was seeing for a long time.

And behind her, Ruan Jianguo was even more dumbstruck. Staring at the gardens, he froze completely, realizing for the first time just how deeply Old Master Shu had resented him.

He had known Shu Jiao’s family was well-off, but he hadn’t imagined it would be this good.

He had once felt proud for giving his family a place to live on the second floor of a building. Now, that thought felt like a laughable joke.

"Jiaojiao, do you like it? This place has everything. How about staying in Beidu to study here and keep your grandpa company?" The proud Old Master Shu asked, seeing Jiaojiao’s astonishment.

"I like it. It’s so beautiful," Jiaojiao replied, though she tactfully avoided responding to the latter part of his suggestion.

The estate was truly massive—it took over ten minutes for the car to drive within its bounds. Along the way, there were mountains, lakes, pavilions... everything you could imagine.

Finally, the car stopped in front of three interconnected villas. In front of the villas stretched a small lake, complete with artificial mountains, gazebos, small bridges, and countless vividly colored fish.

After getting off the car, aside from Xiu Xi and Shu Jiao, the other four members of the Ruan Family looked like bumpkins entering the city, craning their necks and marveling at the building before them.

Ruanlin Family couldn’t help exclaiming silently to herself. She had always believed her family’s pig had married a cabbage, but looking at it now—this wasn’t cabbage; this was divine cuisine!

Ruan Jianguo’s heart was awash with mixed emotions. He had thought he’d given his wife a good life, but standing here now, he realized how ridiculous that belief had been.

His mood unknowingly sank.

Beside him, Jiaojiao tugged at his big hand, pulling him down.

Ruan Jianguo lowered his head to look at her and saw her gesturing for him to crouch down. He immediately followed her lead.

Then he heard Jiaojiao whisper in his ear, "Dad, look, Mom really used to be a princess! Dad, why do you think Mom gave up such an amazing life three years ago to come back to us?"

"Why?" Ruan Jianguo couldn’t help but wonder aloud.

Jiaojiao grinned, "Obviously because Mom loves Jiaojiao, loves my brothers, and loves Dad too."

What else could make a woman leave this kind of splendid life and return to their remote little mountain village in Xiahe Village?

Ruan Jianguo’s eyes brimmed with tears as he looked at Jiaojiao, deeply moved. The faint trace of inferiority he had felt disappeared entirely in an instant.

Yes, despite being poor and having nothing, he had sons and a daughter, and a wife who loved him!

He believed that with his hard work, he could let his wife and daughter experience this kind of life too one day. Strengthened by this thought, Ruan Jianguo’s resolve flared up once again.

"What are you two whispering about now? Say it so Grandpa can hear too!" Seeing his most cherished Jiaojiao chatting so intimately with the person he liked least, Old Master Shu couldn’t help but complain with a dissatisfied tone.

Jiaojiao immediately released Ruan Jianguo’s hand and cheerfully returned to Old Master Shu’s side. She grabbed his large hand and said with a bright smile, "I was telling Dad that I’ll visit Grandpa often from now on, because I’ve realized how much I miss and resemble Grandpa. I must come often—every year!"
