Chapter 482: 481. Someone By My Side (5)
Lucius went up to his mother, Angelina who then looked up at Elle and Ocean.
Her eyes widened for a moment before a word slipped from her lips.
"Mirielle?"
It was but a low whisper over her breath but Ocean heard it and smiled.
"I found them near the back corridor of the Temple, My Lady." Ocean said, "Little Lady hurt herself and couldn’t walk so, I am carrying her."
Angelina gasped before she looked at Elle, *What happened?"
Elle looked shy as she answered, "I was running behind big brother and fell."
Angelina looked worried and in the meanwhile a familiar face came rushing to us. His eyes widened as soon as he saw Ocean.
"Master?!" Asher blurted out making Angelina look at Ocean and then at him.
"Oh, Sir Asher." Ocean feigned surprise while Angelina looked confused.
"Master?" She asked and Asher blinked before he scratched the back of his head.
"This is Marquis Ocean Ryujin of Sestia." Asher said making Angelina’s eyes go wide.
"Oh, it’s a pleasure to meet you, Marquis." She said and then Asher gestured at Angelina.
"And this is my sister, Marchioness Angelina Lockwood." Asher said and Ocean nodded before he stretched his hand to her.
She was still staring at his face which was half covered by the silver mask. She placed her hand in his and he rested a gentle kiss on her knuckles before he smiled.
"And this is Young Master Sol." Asher said, Angelina smiled at him.
"He’s really adorable," she said, "How old are you, Young Master Sol?"
Sol looked once at Ocean before he answered, "Six."
"Oh, you’re only a year older than Lucius and Elle. How nice! You all could be friends!"
Sol didn’t say anything else, neither did his face betray any emotion. He wasn’t even sure what he should be feeling. Ocean was a complicated person, deciphering him was as good as trying to count stars. Besides, since a while back, he had been having this nagging feeling that Ocean had erected a walk between them. He was being cordial but it was only surface-level. When alone he wouldn’t even bother to look at him and now he was tenderly holding other kids and smiling at their mother.
There was a strange hot sensation in his chest which he thought was the curse acting up.
Sol wasn’t sure what to expect, it was obvious that Ocean knew them but they weren’t familiar with him. It must be quite complicated to keep track of all the lies that he had spun around.
"It’s quite a pleasure to finally meet Sir Asher’s family." Ocean said and Angelina kept staring. Ocean could almost hear what was going in her head. She must be comparing Mirielle with the man in front of her.
Asher stared at Ocean and then at Sol and then at Elle.
"Why... are you holding my niece, Master?" He asked.
"Your niece fell and skinned her knee."
"Then, did you heal her?" Asher asked and Angelina’s eyes widened.
"He-Heal? You can heal?" She asked and Ocean smiled.
"Yes, but it would have been a shock for the little lady so, I simply gave her first aid." Ocean lied feeling Elle stare at him with starry eyes.
"M-Mister can heal?" She asked and Ocean smiled at her.
"Yes, would you like for me to heal your knee, Little Lady?" He asked and she nodded.
Ocean chuckled as he placed his hand over her knee and casted the Healing spell.
"The pain is gone!" She beamed and Ocean chuckled.
Asher stretched his hands to Elle, "Come, Elle."
Elle looked at his hands before she turned and wrapped her arms around Ocean’s shoulders shocking both her mother and Uncle.
"E-Elle? What are you doing? Come here, you shouldn’t bother him." Angelina gasped.
"It’s fine, My Lady, little lady isn’t bothering me." Ocean said and Asher sighed.
"I... didn’t expect to see you here, Master." Asher said.
"Well, even I wasn’t planning on coming but I ended up becoming His Highness Davian’s chaperone so, here I am." Ocean explained and Asher then looked at Sol.
"You... didn’t bring Kai." Asher spoke and Ocean looked down at Sol.
"Well, you know..." Ocean didn’t have to complete it as Asher of all people knew about Kai’s past with Denril.
Asher nodded before he looked at his sister who was staring at Ocean. Lucius who had been only looking at the adults quietly up till now ended up asking.
"Mister, do you have a sister?"
Angelina and Asher looked down at Lucius while Ocean hummed, Sol wondered what kind of lie would he spin now.
"Sister? Why do you ask, Young Master?" Ocean asked.
"Because you look like the lady my mother and Uncle tells me about."
Ocean’s eyes drifted over to Asher who quickly shook his head as if saying it wasn’t him.
"Hm? Well, I don’t have a sister," Ocean said making Angelina’s eyes widened before she looked down, the tension in her body said that she was disappointed.
"But, I do have a cousin who looks a little like me." Ocean said making her eyes glow as she looked back at him.
"Pardon? Is her name Mirielle?" She asked and Ocean hummed before looking at Asher.
"Well, she’s my distant relative and I’m her husband’s business partner."
"Is it Mr Ace D’Arc, by any chance?" She asked, leaning ahead, eyes wide and radiant and Ocean smiled.
"Yes,"
Angelina beamed so wide that Ocean wondered if she’d found her long lost friend.
"Um... Is she all right? I heard they have a son, named Kai. How is he?" Angelina asked in a rush.
"Mirielle is fine and so, is her husband and son." Ocean said and Sol couldn’t help but feel slightly annoyed at how he was being so amicable with the strangers or maybe they weren’t strangers. He was.
"It’s quite a coincidence to meet someone who shares close ties with our friends and brother," Angelina smiled before she asked, "Would you mind joining us for lunch today? I’m sure my husband would be happy to meet you."
Angelina’s eyes sparkled with hope and Elle likewise also gave the same look to Ocean.
Sol frowned, they were planning to eat at a restaurant in town and play around for a bit more. Why was she suddenly interrupting? Even her kids were sticking to Ocean like a leech.
Ocean opened his mouth to answer when he felt a tug on the hem of his coat, he turned his head, looking down as Sol’s tiny, chubby fingers were latched onto the fabric.
He had his face down but Ocean couldn’t help but smile placing his free hand over Sol’s head, he ruffled his hair making Sol to gasp. Sol hadn’t even realised that he had reached out to Ocean like that, it was just the way when at Ryujin mansion that he had sought out Ocean when he couldn’t endure the pain of his curse anymore.
He kept relying on this younger Dragon more and more that it was humiliating but he also couldn’t deny the fact that apart from all the other Dragon’s in the world. It was only this one who could ease the pain of his curse... and might even erase it someday.
"I’m sorry, My Lady," Ocean spoke, "but I made plans with my son so, I might not be able to come."
Sol’s eyes widened before he looked up at Ocean whose face had a small smile.
Angelina’s smile dropped off her face before she forced it back, "Is that so? I’m sorry for intruding on your father son moment,"
Ocean chuckled, "It’s fine. I’m just glad I managed to meet Sir Asher’s sister, he usually talks a lot about how he loves his family."
Asher’s face grew red, "Wha-What?!"
Ocean chuckled while Angelina looked at him with a smile and Asher cleared his throat before he stepped ahead and plucked Elle out of Ocean’s arms.
"Come now, Elle. Let’s head back." He said.
"What?! But I want to go with Mister!" Elle whined.
"We can meet him later, Elle. Let’s go home for now, hm?" Angelina said before she held her and though Elle was whining they managed to calm her.
The family left first leaving Ocean and Sol, Sol looked awkward before he looked up at Ocean.
"Hm, let’s go to that restaurant now, shall we?" Ocean asked and Sol hummed.
Ocean looked at the child before he smiled and scooped him up in his arms making Sol to gasp.
"Wha-Wha-What are you doing?" He almost shouted and Ocean grinned.
"You’re too small and cute, so, I’m going to carry you."
Sol’s face grew red but he didn’t resist, rather he even wrapped his arms around Ocean’s neck when they stepped out into the crowded street.
He wouldn’t dare admit it to anyone but maybe he did like someone babying him after having lived so long of carrying the burden of someone else’s expectations. Sol didn’t even resist when Ocean playfully tried to feed him, he just put on a weak glare before he ate whatever Ocean fed him.
Ocean was taken aback but it was clear that the wall that had been there between them was now gone.
Sol was grateful that he had someone by his side after being bearing every fight alone for so long.
