Chapter 375: 374. Professional Stalkers (2)
Rune was given prize of winning the swordsmanship competition, the hairpin and he accepted it with the cheers of the people.
"Here you go, young man! You’ve earned this prize for your lady love!" The commentator announced handing the box which had the beautiful ivory hairpin and I clapped.
Davian walked up and stood beside me, clapping as well and sniffled. Celestia was beaming as she saw Rune take the hairpin before he started heading towards us.
I grabbed Davian and we quickly rushed away before Rune could see us and also because we wanted to give them some private time.
Rune handed the box of hairpin to Celestia and she blushed bright red covering her face as she took the hairpin.
"That’s not fair, Ocean." I heard Davian mutter and I looked at him.
"And what you did was fair? You practically beat up the poor men who were fighting to impress their women." I chided and he chuckled.
"I basically made Young Duke into the hero today, Ocean." He said and I looked at him.
"By turning yourself into a demon, do you want me to sing praises for you?" I spoke and he smiled.
"Well, no, but I would like to know why you called me Brother?" He asked and I frowned.
"Huh?"
"You cheered ’Go Brother’." He pointed out and I sighed.
I ended up cheering for Rune at that time since Celestia couldn’t and instead of using the title that the people around were using I called him Brother.
"Well, it did distract you." I shrugged lying smoothly and Davian frowned before he sighed and rolled his eyes.
"You wanted Young Duke to win, and he did. Are you happy?" He asked and I looked up at him.
The left side of his jaw was starting to bruise, there were traces of blood over his nostrils and there was also a cut on his lower lip. I sighed and reached out touching his cheek making him stiffen before I used the healing spell on him.
"Try using a little less brutality next time, Prince." I said pulling my hand back and he smirked.
"That would be a bit hard considering I’m a Montaire."
I rolled my eyes and then thought of something, "Well, in that case, you should visit Ryujin mansion sometime after you return. I’ll take you to a place where you wouldn’t have to hold back."
His eyes glinted with curiosity and I smiled.
"Where?" He asked.
"You’ll know, your parents loved that place, I’m sure you’ll love it too." I shrugged and he raised his eyebrows.
"My parents have visited your territory." He spoke and I nodded.
"Of course they have,"
He looked curious but didn’t say anything and then looked at my shoulder.
"Where’s your owl?" He asked and I frowned turning my head.
My jaw almost dropped as I realised Nox wasn’t on my shoulder. How did I not realise that he wasn’t there?
"Where did he-" I looked around.
"Ah, there he is." Davian spoke up looking in a particular direction.
"Where?" I turned my head and saw Nox perched up on Rune’s shoulder, Celestia hesitantly reached out and Nox let her touch his feathers.
"That’s a surprise." I narrowed my eyes as I wondered why Nox was so easily letting Celestia touch him.
But then I looked at my brother and Celestia looking happy and I sighed relaxing.
After that was done, they walked around a bit more with Rune occasionally turning and looking back at us.
"We’re not doing quite a good job considering he’s seen us." Davian said and I narrowed my eyes at him.
"And whose fault is it?" I asked.
"Hm? Is it my fault?" He asked with a smile and I shook my head.
"You might never make a good stalker, Davian." I said and he tilted his head curiously.
"And you will?" He asked.
"One of the most important skill that the assassins should learn is stalking, I wasn’t being professional here that’s why Young Duke sensed me."
"So, are you saying you’re a professional stalker?" He asked and I almost rolled my eyes.
"Being a professional stalker doesn’t really mean anything to Young Duke, his senses are too sharp he would have noticed me sooner or later." I shrugged.
The corners of Davian’s lips twitched and I looked back at Rune and Celestia.
"Well, at least they look happy." I spoke feeling relieved.
"Since he’s already spotted us and everything is going well so, why don’t we just roam around by ourselves?" Davian offered.
"You can go if you want, I’m going to stick by till the end." I said waving my hand and Davian frowned.
"Are you thinking so much about this because Young Duke is a close aide of Prince Eric?" He asked.
"Hm? No, it’s because Duke Aurelius was my first partner and I owe him a lot." I answered keeping my eyes on Rune as he smiled looking at Celestia who was eating something sweet, her eyes were practically sparkling.
"So, it has nothing to do with Prince Eric?" He asked.
"It has, Prince Eric is Young Duke’s close friend and even he is affiliated to me in a way so, I will continue looking after them till I could." I said and we moved ahead.
"Even if it means you will have to involve yourself in the royal politics? Or... are you already a part of it?" He asked and I chuckled.
"Considering my line of work, I have to be involved in various things, Davian. Even if it’s the street fights, nobles or the royal politics." I told him and his jaw clenched.
"If I weren’t then I wouldn’t even be involved in your matter, Davian." I pointed out before I saw Rune and Celestia heading back towards the entrance of the market and I patted Davian’s arm.
"Come, they’re leaving." I said and he followed me.
"I’ll be back in a moment," Davian said and went somewhere and I shrugged before I walked over behind Rune and Celestia.
They walked out of the crowded area and got on the carriage that was waiting for them. I looked around and saw Davian approaching me with a black stallion.
"Is that your horse?" I asked and he shook his head.
"I borrowed it for the time being." He said
"Let’s go." He said and I hummed looking at the carriage.
I took a hold of the saddle and got on the horse and then looked at him as he stood there with his hand out.
"What are you waiting for? Let’s go." I said and he sighed before he got on after me.
We took off behind the carriage and I leaned back against Davian’s chest. His aura was under control but it wasn’t completely ineffective now that I was so close to him. There was friction between his aura and my mana.
"How come you’re able to sense me so easily, Davian?" I asked. "Even during the parade when I was disguised you spotted me right away."
Davian looked down at me as he held the reigns from past the sides of my waist.
"You know that every being carries the life force in them," he started and I nodded.
"For us aura users, that life force or rather the mana presence is like glowing lamp, I can sense the vibrancy of the presence and that’s how I can sense and enemy before I could see them... But you... your mana presence... Well... If I say the other presences are like burning lamps, you are the sun that burns in my sight whenever you are around." He said and I stared at him.
"You’re saying that I’m like sun?" I asked and he sighed.
"Don’t get me wrong, you are most probably what one would call endless abyss but your presence is enough for me to know you’re around in whatever disguise you may be." He said making me laugh.
"I’ll take that as a compliment." I said and he snorted but his expression was relaxed.
We stopped when he reached close enough to the palace and I got down.
"I’ll go return this horse," he said and I hummed bringing my hand up to the invisibility brooch.
"Ocean," he spoke up and I looked at him, my gaze instinctively went cold and he pursed his lips.
"Master," he corrected himself and I sighed.
"Yes, Prince?" I asked.
"When you decide to visit the Temple, please tell me." He said and I frowned.
"Why?"
He turned the horse and gave me a small smile, "I’d like to go see the place that made you come all the way here."
"Fine," I said waving my hand and he trotted away.
I activated the invisibility spell and flew over to the palace. I landed right a couple of feet away from the carriage that now stood in front of the entrance of the palace where the royal guests were given rooms. Rune helped Celestia out of the carriage.
"Thank for today, My Lady. I hope you enjoyed." He said.
Well, at least he was stuttering now.
Celestia nodded, "I-I had fun thanks to you too, Your Highness. But, please have a doctor treat your wounds."
Her voice was filled with worry and I could see the bruises on my brother’s face.
Though Rune won but Davian did a number on my brother’s handsome face.
"Then, I shall see you again, My Lady." Rune said and hesitantly left a kiss on the back of her hand.
I watched Celestia’s face going red before she left.
Nox who was sitting on Rune’s shoulder flew over to me and despite me being invisible he managed to find his spot on my shoulder. Rune turned his giddy expression replaced by a stern one.
"In my room, now." He spoke and I sighed.
