Chapter 374: 373. Professional Stalkers (1)
I saw as Davian very confidently walked up and signed up for the sword fighting competition. Rune still hadn’t noticed him as he was looking back at Celestia. I pulled the hood over my head a bit more down as he walked over to Celestia.
"I’ll get you that hairpin, My Lady." He said with a smile.
"T-There really isn’t any need to, Your Highness. What if someone noticed that it’s you? They all have seen you at the parade." She spoke.
"It’s fine, My Lady. Nobody will recognise me." Rune said as he pushed his hood back revealing the deep brown hair and he pulled his scarf up to cover the lower half of his handsome face.
"See?" He spoke with the skin near his eyes crinkling as he smiled.
I loved his pink hair despite anything but I guess he was smart enough to forsee this and dyed them in advance. That itself showed that he had seriously thought about this date. That hairpin was necessary to increase my brother’s points so, there was no way that Davian could win this, not with me standing here.
I saw as the fight started and various other fighters stepped ahead in the arena, it wasn’t even that big of an arena it was just a pit that they had created with the ropes tied around to keep the audience from stepping in.
Apart from the commoners there were even some knights who had taken part in this competition. And I could see it clearly from their expertise as they fought with the skills that their opponents lacked.
"Poor commoners have no chance here." I mumbled as I crossed my arms at my chest watching as the fights happened one after the other.
There would be other fighters with a lot of skill and experience but with my brother and Davian in the arena it was impossible for anyone else to have that hairpin. And I had decided that the winner would be my brother Rune so, even if Davian would be bitter about it, I would have him lose.
Finally it was Rune’s turn, I smiled and avoided the urge to cheer for him but he didn’t even need that as he defeated his opponent within the first four seconds of them entering the arena.
I watched Celestia as she had her nails in her mouth and she seemed tensed for those four seconds but then she sighed. Was she worried about him?
I inched closer to her side and stood right beside her.
"Wow, he’s quite fast. His lover is really lucky to have such a strong man!" I spoke and her cheeks carried the tint of pink and I smirked.
The next two fights happened pretty quickly and Davian stepped up with a large man as his opponent. His opponent was a royal knight, I knew it because I had seen him around a couple of times. He had a large claymore in his hands and Davian had a long sword.
I could see Davian completely relaxed and even his aura was pretty stable as he watched the large knight.
"Are you going to keep looking at me or will you attack already?" Davian taunted and I almost smacked my head.
Seriously, what happened to him at the battlefield? He was rude and quiet at first when I met him but he was a pure and innocent boy, this man was completely different.
The large knight scoffed and moved with the speed that wasn’t suited for his huge form, within a couple of seconds he unleashed a flurry of attacks but none of them landed, instead, Davian didn’t even need to lift his sword to block the attacks he was simply dodging with the grace that was eerily familiar to me.
Then within a flash he moved his sword and the huge claymore flew out of the large Knight’s hand and landed near the audience making them jump and panic. But he wasn’t done there.
"Whoa! The claymore is gone and what do we see here, the opponent putting his sword away too!" The commentator shouted.
"We’re not done, I suppose." Davian spoke and the large knight grimaced with his fists up.
The girls around gasped and I almost smacked my head.
The fist fight started without any notice and I could hear the sound of the giant’s fists cutting through the air but again, none of them could even touch Davian. He was faster and sharper, I sighed shaking my head as the poor giant was getting messed with so badly.
Davian changed his footing and then started what seemed like a one sided thrashing as Davian’s swift punches and kicks landed on the poor knight and he couldn’t do anything but try to block.
"Wha-What is he?"
"A demon..."
The girls around whispered along with men who saw this plummeling until the poor knight fell on the ground accepting his defeat and Davian stood up straight not even breathing hard.
Well, he was the son of the most ferocious fighters of Frosthail Dahlia Montaire and Alarice Montaire so, I guess I could expect at least this much from him.
Davian turned his head and looked right at me, though the lower half of his face was covered his violet eyes showed that he was smiling, it was a sly smile.
Some of the girls around me gasped, shuddering and I sighed, "This reckless idiot!"
I felt Celestia turn her head and I cleared my throat tugging at my hood and Davian stepped off the arena. I could see Rune looking at Davian from his spot among the contenders and then his head turned and I quickly hid behind another girl.
The fights went on and just as I had predicted Rune and Davian won their fights pretty easily. It was like a walk in the park for them.
Until finally, they were facing each other for the final battle.
"Will he be all right?" I heard Celestia mumble as she clutched her hands at her chest looking at Rune.
Well, she would be worried about Rune considering the fights that the two had fought so far had their distinct natures. While Rune was swiftly taking out his opponents, Davian was taking his time and playing with his opponents until they were sent to the hospital with wounded bodies and shattered pride.
What on earth happened at the battlefield to this boy exactly?! He’s turned into a psycho!
"Please Lord Dragon, please... don’t let him be beaten by that demon... Please, please..." I heard Celestia whispering under her breath and I smiled.
"Whoa, I wouldn’t want that handsome guy to be beaten up by that demon."
"Yes, he’s way ruthless, I hope our sweet angel survives."
I heard the girls around speaking among themselves and I looked at Rune. The sides were divided here, Davian was termed as a "Demon" and Rune was an "Angel".
"Go Angel!"
"Beat that Demon!"
The people started cheering and I saw as Celestia looked at both of them with worried eyes.
[Goddess of Wisdom leans ahead with her bowl of popcorn ready.]
[Defender of Divine Glory wonders if Rune will be humiliated before his lady love.]
[Giver of Gifts pulls out her opera glasses to have a better look.]
These three were never serious when it came to such times, I wondered who gave them their posts.
Well, the fight started and this time instead of waiting for the opponent to start the two rushed in together.
Their swords clanged creating the sparks and the flurry of attacks that followed were too fast for a human eye to follow.
"W-Wow... We can’t even see their attacks." The commentator stuttered as everyone watched in wonder.
Rune’s jaw clenched as he glared at Davian, if not earlier he knew now that it was Davian all right.
Their fight was pretty brutal considering the sound of the metal colliding against metal and the sparks and dust flying as none of them could land an attack on each other.
The silver glinted in my eye and I saw Davian’s sword slashing up in an arc heading towards Rune’s wrist and I frowned.
I used telekinesis and tugged at Davian’s foot which was holding all of his weight at that moment and he stumbled leading Rune to slash right down and Davian’s sword went flying from his hand and was headed right in my and Celestia’s direction. I quickly stepped ahead grabbing the sword as Celestia gasped and jumped almost holding my shoulders.
I sighed holding the sword in my hand and Rune looked at me, he recognised me instantly though despite me being in disguise.
Davian stood back up and his eyes glinted dangerously, I slowly shook my head giving him a hard look but it didn’t seem like he was going to end this here.
He brought his fists up and Rune looked at him.
"Don’t do it, idiot." I muttered.
Rune was trained with the ruthless Elves and Dwarves so, there was no way Davian could fight him in terms of hand-to-hand combat.
Regardless, Rune put his sword away and I could see his icy presence filling the arena.
"Just what are you doing here with her?" I heard Rune speak, despite the loud cheering around.
Davian simply smirked.
"The same as you, we’re on a date."
I saw Rune’s fists clenching and I smacked my head.
"You’re so dead, Davian." I mumbled and the fight started.
Within the next couple of minutes, I saw Rune unleashing an ounce of the demon in him. The fight wasn’t too one-sided as Davian was able to keep up but they did manage to land attacks on each other and I knew their handsome faces would be bruised tomorrow thanks to this.
Well, I didn’t do anything after that as Rune swiftly moved under Davian and swung his foot, his knee digging deep into Davian’s abdoment and Davian gasped.
The people were still shouting for Rune’s victory and Celestia was too tensed as she watched the fight.
"G-Go... Please win!" I could hear her muttering but she couldn’t raise her voice to cheer for my brother.
I took the feeling for her and raised my hands up to my mouth.
"Go Brother!" I shouted and Rune and Davian froze for a moment.
Oops, I was supposed to say Angel.
Rune got out of it in a snap and swung his arm in a clean uppercut which made Davian stumble and fall on his back.
The arena almost exploded with the cheers for Rune as he won and Davian sat up wiping his nose and I watched as Rune turned looking in my direction. I almost expected an angry expression but then his eyes widened and I looked at my side as Celestia was beaming and clapping.
Well, I guess my sister-in-law saved us, at least for the time being.
