Chapter 353: 352. He Fell First, She Fell Harder (2)
I kept tabs on Silas and Alys after that and soon realized they were even closer than I had initially assumed.
Silas, the classic tsundere, had an amusing pattern when it came to Alys. He would storm into her lair, pick a fight over some trivial matter, and then return with a flushed face and an oddly dreamy smile—completely unaware of how transparent he was. It didn’t take much effort to confirm that he was hopelessly smitten.
Ruya and Darren, ever the keen observers, were my most reliable sources of information. They delivered their reports with an enthusiasm that could rival that of seasoned spies. According to them, Silas’s so-called arguments with Alys were less about actual disputes and more of a bizarre courtship ritual. Apparently, after every heated exchange, Silas would linger just a bit longer, his words becoming softer, his gaze lingering a little too much, only to stomp out at the last moment as if fleeing from his own emotions.
I couldn’t help but wonder—would he ever confess?
Being his favorite niece (a fact I shamelessly used to my advantage), I decided it was my duty to play cupid. Even my Patrons found amusement in this endeavor and, much to my delight, offered their divine counsel. Their messages arrived like sacred decrees, each one brimming with mischief.
[Giver of Gifts suggests a secret date.]
A secret date, huh? That could work. Perhaps I could arrange for them to "accidentally" cross paths in a scenic location—a quiet lake at sunset, a marketplace filled with soft lantern light, or even an old library where they would be forced to sit together and endure each other’s presence.
[Defender of Divine Glory suggests that you should first make them realise that they could form a romantic connection.]
"I could but, Silas being Silas he would try to evade and speaking of Alys then, she might flip if I told her that she and Silas could be-"
Just then my communication device started glowing, "Master! Master it’s an emergency!"
I heard the voice of one of my men, the communication device was only with specific people who were given special tasks.
"What is it?"
"I’m Ran, the one stationed to surveil Princess Alys,"
"And what happened?" I asked.
"A-A quite large group of mages and mercenaries have gathered her, our side is fighting but because of the Mages it’s hard to fight back. We need backup!" He explained quickly and I grimaced before I rose to my feet and then a thought crossed my mind and I smirked looking at my communication device.
I brought it up connecting it with the device that would be close to the place of commotion.
"Uncle?" I called, "Uncle, are you there?"
"Yes, Reina. What is it?" He responded fairly quickly.
"There’s a problem." I said.
"What?"
"Alys is in danger, some mages and mercenaries have attacked, I am on an urgent business so, I can’t go. Can you please hurry up before it’s too late?" I used the urgent tone which would do the trick.
"All right," he said and I smiled before I placed the mana stone down.
"Aren’t you supposed to go yourself?" Roan who was in the office asked me and I looked at him.
"I am going," I said as I used telekinesis to grab my coat from the stand and he frowned a bit.
"Then why did you lie to the Archmage?"
"Because he needs to save her,"
Roan frowned a bit before I shook my head before smiling, "I’ll explain once I return."
"Hey, don’t say that, it’ll make me even more curious!" He whined and I laughed before I opened the windows and leapt out.
I flew all the way to the location where this scuffle was happening, I could see the smoke rising in the sky from that place so, I hurried a bit to see the show but I guess I was late. The smoke that was rising was from the mercenaries who were running around trying to put the fire on their clothes out, the mages were running away and my people who were there took care of them. Alys, whom I thought was in danger stood in the center of the chaos in a relaxed state looking at the mercenaries with an impassive expression.
I guess after realising her strength she is no longer a damsel who needed to hide or someone’s protection. She was very well capable of fighting her battles.
Silas though who arrived on the scene probably a bit later seemed to have realised that as well.
"You cannot finish any fights without creating a commotion, can you?" Silas commented the moment everything was over and I almost smacked my head.
"You’re supposed to ask if she is all right and praise her strength, Uncle." I muttered to myself shaking my head.
Alys got triggered by his words.
"I handled it in a way that I know, it’s not like I was expecting you to appear like a Knight in shining armor!" Alys retorted and I sighed watching as their row started again.
"It’s quite hard, isn’t it?" I muttered.
[Giver of Gifts agrees with you.]
[Defender of Divine Glory says there is nothing easy when it comes to love.]
Goddess of Wisdom didn’t say anything, well she had sworn singlehood so, I could guess why she had nothing to say.
[Goddess of Wisdom corrects you saying that she knows what love is and also the kind of strength that is necessary to protect that love.]
[Goddess of Wisdom explains that that is the reason why she can’t comment on the present situation.]
"Well, singles are the best coaches when it comes to relationships though." I said.
[Goddess of Wisdom warns you against teasing her.]
I shook my head and didn’t say anything but then I started thinking on how to make the spark light up between these two.
I returned home and Roan was just waiting for me and I had to explain him whatever was going on. And his first reaction was.
"Stop being delusional, Master. Archmage Silas and Princess Alys, it might sound good in your head but in reality, it’s nothing but chaos." He said waving his hand dismissively.
I just smirked at his words and he looked at me for a long moment as if trying to decipher what I was thinking.
"You’re going to make sure that they come together, aren’t you?" He asked and I smiled.
"My Uncle likes her, Roan. He’s the best bachelor in this kingdom and he has all the assets, he’s good-looking, he is the Archmage of the Mage’s Tower, he is also partially immune to the royalty here and did I mention that he’s really handsome?"
Roan sighed shaking his head, "Well, whatever you think, Master. But don’t say, I didn’t warn you against it."
I chuckled and shoved my hands into the pockets of my trousers, "If I were that worried about such things then you might not be sitting here, Roan."
After that, I handed the tickets of the play that I received from Lord Devil to Silas and Alys.
I didn’t tell them that I had given it to the other and waited in the theatre to see the show when these two would appear.
It was almost comical to see them running into each other and then ending up in the same balcony. Lord Devil enjoyed the scuffle too as he sat beside me and to be honest, I wasn’t paying much attention to the cringey love story below while the real life comedy was going a couple of feet away.
"I guess, I got the inspiration for my next play, Master." Lord Devil aka Lord Oberon commented and I chuckled.
Surprisingly though, the two fell silent and started watching, Alys watched with quite interest while I caught Silas looking at her occassionally.
"I didn’t know Archmage was capable of this." Lord Devil commented in a low voice and I hummed.
"I know, right? But it’s kind of fun, the ones who tend to run from all the human connections fall the hardest when it comes to love."
I felt Lord Devil’s eyes on me and I looked at him, "What?"
"I wonder when I will get to know about your love story, Master." He smiled and I snorted.
"I don’t think you’d ever be able to do that."
"I’m sure there is a maiden somewhere who would make her spot in your analytical heart. We just have to wait for her to come." He smiled making me roll my eyes.
There would never be a maiden for me. I thought but I could say that to him.
The play ended and the two started leaving surprisingly peacefully. I watched them leave in the same carriage and smiled feeling relieved that maybe I did manage to create a spark between them.
Coming back to the present, I was lost in my thoughts when I heard the knock on the door and I realised that I hadn’t slept all night but kept thinking about my Uncle’s love story.
