Chapter 320: 319. What The Future Holds For Us (5)

Silas still hadn’t contacted me after three weeks of our last meeting, I was starting to feel worried now. I wondered what he and Grandfather talked about, he was going to lash out at me but Grandfather had taken my side.

Both of them were concerned for my sake but Grandfather decided to not show it. Somehow I had a bad feeling about it.

With the royal summon now in my hands, I knew I had to see Silas before leaving for the capital. I needed to sort things out.

It was still afternoon and I had time so, I decided to just drop by at the Mage’s Tower.

I placed the letter down and walked over to my coat rack before I plucked over my coat and Roan who was working looked at me.

"Where are you off to?"

"To the Mage’s Tower." I replied as I looked at the teleportation device in my hand ready to teleport.

"Wait, you’re going alone?" He asked and I looked at him.

"I want to have a talk with my Uncle, I don’t need anyone to go with me." I said before I teleported.

I landed at quite a distance from the Tower as even this Tower had the security devices set around its perimeter.

I walked up to the Tower the rest of the way and the wall that guarded it opened up after scanning me.

"Good noon, Lord Ocean. It’s been so long." Ruya, a mage from the Tower who knew me greeted me with a smile.

"What brings you here today?" She asked, usually she would be all cheery and starry eyed around me but today it seemed a bit different as I watched her avoiding my eyes.

"Is something wrong?" I asked.

"O-Of course not!" She almost shouted and I got my confirmation.

"Where’s Archmage?" I asked and she gulped.

I sighed and walked towards the elevator platform.

"Wa-Wait, Lord Ocean, Archmage hasn’t allowed anyone!" She shouted but I was already moving.

"It’s fine, I’m an exception." I hollered back before I started riding up.

Soon enough I reached up to the highest section of the Tower where Silas’s office was. I stepped down from the platform and saw the papers scattered all around me and his room was an a disarry of the magic devices placed around on the table or down on the floor. I also saw a game of chess on one of the table. Despite all the chaos in the room that table seemed untouched.

And amidst all this stormed up room, was Silas Fairisles lying on the couch, asleep while holding some papers to his chest.

I used telekinesis to pick all the stuff from the ground and placed them on the tables and the counters that were around before I walked up to Silas.

I studied him for a long moment before I reached out to pluck the papers from his hand but he grabbed my hand instead.

"Wh..." He opened his eyes scowling but then he paused as he saw me.

He frowned watching me for a long moment before he sighed sitting up.

"What are you doing here?" He asked.

"I came to see you," I said and he stood up stretching his arms and back.

"I’m alive as you can see." He said as he made his way towards his desk.

He was still sulking.

"You don’t seem all right." I spoke, "How long have you gone without sleep?"

"Why does it matter?" He asked coldly and I sighed.

"Why don’t you just scold or shout at me and get it over with?" I asked.

He ignored me and I sighed, "Uncle?"

He walked over and picked up the black Queen from the game.

"What’s the next step of your plan? You will be going to the palace, right?" He asked instead and I sighed walking over to him.

I plucked the Queen from his hand and placed it down on the board before facing him.

"I’m sorry," I said, "but I had no way of knowing that there was a demon involved until it was upon me."

"I’m not talking about that," he said and I rolled my eyes.

"Just shout or beat me instead if you’re so angry, Uncle." I said and he shrugged his shoulders.

"I’m not angry, why would I be? It’s your plan, your life, you would risk it, sacrifice it or cherish it is none of my business. I’m simply a pawn for you to use when you feel like it, so why would I bother?"

I clenched my fists as he turned and then moved towards his desk.

"... You’re not a pawn." I said.

"Right, I’m your, what? Bishop? Yes, I’m your bishop." He said and I sighed.

[Goddess of Wisdom asks if you have realised your mistake yet.]

[Defender of Divine Glory wonders if now you’ll stop seeing the people around you as pawns.]

"Will you guys stay out of this?"

"What do you want me to do?" I asked Silas who now stood facing his bookshelf.

"Who am I to tell Lord Ocean Ryujin on what he should do?" Silas said and I sighed.

"What did Grandfather tell you?" I asked and he went quiet for a moment as he stood there with his back facing me.

"Uncle, what did Grandfather tell you?" I asked again.

After a long pause, he spoke, "He told me stay out of your business and do everything I could to help you."

"And you listened without any resistance?" I asked.

Silas turned this time and I could see anger flashing in his eyes.

"I could have done something if it were in my hands."

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"If I told you to stop risking your life, will you listen to me?" He asked crossing his arms at his chest and I opened my mouth.

[Goddess of Wisdom warns you to think before speaking.]

[Defender of Divine Glory warns you to think before speaking.]

I inhaled and then exhaled deeply before I faced him speaking with a bit uncertainty, "I would try not to."

"Do you think I have the power to stop you from taking those risks?" He asked and I licked my lips.

"It would be hard because if the matters come to the point where I have to risk my life then, it would definitely be the time when someone... or more than one people would definitely lose their lives. I can’t let those people give up their lives for my word that’s why I have to step up. Because, I’m the only one who could survive through all of it, Uncle."

He stared at me before he released a deep sigh, "My words mean nothing."

That’s not it!" I snapped.

He looked at me with a challenging expression and I sighed massaging my temples.

"Your words... do mean a lot, Uncle... And I agree that I... Well, I see a lot of people as my pawns and at first, I did see you like that." I admitted making his eyes go sharp.

"But, " I spoke up quickly, "But, I... I don’t disregard your words, Uncle."

He eyed me as if asking me when exactly I took his advice.

"I... I was planning on giving up my life back in Denril when I was preparing to face the demon because I couldn’t see anything other alternative."

His eyes widened and he opened his mouth but I quickly raised my hand as I continued, "But I remembered that you all are waiting for me and... I would have to come back and get my scolding from you so, I made some changes in my plan to come back alive."

Silas was quiet and I sighed, "I know I was selfish to not think about getting help but, I couldn’t have anyone else die in my place. I would rather die with the satisfaction that I saved someone."

"Do you think we would be happy to know that you died while being in a place where we couldn’t even get to see you or try to help you in any way we could?" He asked and I hung my head.

"Reina, you might not see it but we all do everything to protect you, even your father who is weak and incompetent tries his best and achieves what little good that is possible from him because he wants to see himself hold his head high in your eyes."

"Your brother tried so hard to be good at fighting and he is fighting out there on the battlefield, not only because he trusts your plan but also because he wants to return and live with you. All those people whom you have saved and given a new life strive to be by your side and do something for you. Do you think they will be happy to know that you died someplace far from your home and your people whole protecting some person whom you think is worth protecting?"

I had no answer.

"We all try our best to support your cause, Reina. Because we want to see a future with you... not your dead body."

I listened to it all as he sighed deeply and then shook his head.

"You need to change your way of thinking that you can do it all on your own because you’re a strong Dragon, Reina. All of us over here want you to be alive and healthy, don’t look at us for being weak humans, we can survive and fight if you give us a chance."
