Chapter 309: 308. A Father’s Pride (2)
As promised, I had to spar with the kids, Dad looked a little worried as he heard that I would fight with the kids.
"Is it all right?" He asked, "They’re kids, I-I mean you are a child too but..."
I smiled as I looked once at the kids and then at Dad, "You’ll know once you see it, Father. These kids aren’t normal kids."
Dad seemed a bit confused but he still walked out of manor in the training grounds. The adult Dwarves, Lyall and Kent stood with Dad at a safe distance while I stretched my arms and the kids hurriedly grabbed their weapons.
Dad’s jaw dropped as he saw all of them standing in front of me in a fighting stance.
"A-Are all of them going to fight he-him at once?" He asked.
"That’s the normal thing," Kent answered, "It’s only him who could defeat then despite their numbers. He’s the strongest of them all."
The spar began and the kids launched themselves at me with a blinding speed, I didn’t look at Dad as I was busy avoiding the attacks and also trying to be a bit more graceful. I was trying to show off to him, I wanted to show him what his little girl was capable of. I wanted his pride to shine in his eyes and on his face.
The kids seemed to have grown stronger and faster in the time that I didn’t spar with them. Their attacks were more synchronised now and it impressed me. These kids only grew better and better while I wasn’t looking.
I flipped in mid air and avoided the arrows while simultaneously dodging Rowan’s axe.
"Son of a-" I heard Rowan curse and I frowned.
"Who the hell taught you that?!" I demanded and he yelped.
"Sorry!" I heard him shout before the other kids came up keeping the pace.
After a couple of minutes, they were all sprawled on the ground huffing and puffing and I turned to Kent. He avoided my gaze.
I then faced the kids again, "Listen up!"
They all looked at me and I could see Rowan trying to hide behind one of the Dwarves.
"I don’t care if you cuss or spit bad words," I announced, "But if I hear them then I’ll make sure you’ll be punished."
"Big Brother Kent always keeps cursing when he makes a mistake." A kid shouted and I turned to look at Kent who was sweating buckets.
"I’ll deal with him too, but you’re still not old enough to use those words in front of me. And never will be so, don’t even think about it." I warned.
The kids got their lesson and I looked at Kent who gulped. I raised my hand and beckoned him over, he looked like he would bolt but since Lyall was standing right beside him he couldn’t.
"You want me to come and get you, Kent?" I asked and he released a deep sigh, slumping his shoulders.
"I’m coming, Master." He said as he stepped into the ground.
He walked over and grabbed his daggers before he stood in front of me. I studied his stance which hadn’t faltered despite quite some time of babysitting.
I stood in my spot as I saw his eyes grow rigid and then he attacked. His attack came swiftly, justifying his experience as an assassin but it was still a tad bit lacking as I sidestepped avoiding his straight attack and then stepped back avoiding another attack.
I had my hands in my pockets while fighting which was quite an insult for any fighter, but then again, there was rarely anyone with whom I could take a fight seriously.
[Goddess of Wisdom reminds you of your near death moment while facing the demon.]
"Don’t remind me of that." I spoke as I flipped back and then took a flight as I avoided Kent’s combo attacks.
It wasn’t as hard because I could sense his energy and act fluidly enough to deflect and avoid his attacks. It seemed like that was somehow angering him as he was starting to put more and more efforts into at least landing one attack.
I landed once giving him an opening and he took it, but I quickly sidestepped and flung my leg. It connected with his dagger but since it couldn’t do any effect on my body, it shattered exposing his stomach to my leg and he was sent flying. I watched as he landed a couple of meters away and the kids rushed over to get him.
I turned my head and saw Dad’s face gone completely pale at what he just saw. Well, he had only seen me threatening people, he hadn’t actually seen me using physical force on someone and make a human end up in this state so, I guess I did give him a scare.
I walked up to Kent and checked his vitals, he was barely conscious and his ribs were broken. I used my Healing spell and his eyelids fluttered open and he coughed a bit before he sat up.
"That hurt like a-"
I cocked my brow as he almost slipped out and then he cleared his throat, "That hurt like hell."
"Keep this pain in mind, if you curse before these kids again and I hear them repeat those words then you could kiss your voice goodbye." I spoke and the blood drained from his face.
"Y-Yes, Master. I shall keep it in mind." He answered and I nodded.
"Good."
I stood back up and felt the slight vibration in my chest, it wasn’t exactly inside my body but from the egg that I had kept close to my chest. I had no idea what to do with it but I had made sure that during the fight it would stay safe. I couldn’t let it break by mistake and lose a reward.
Its vibration seemed strange, it was as if it was itching for more. The faint heartbeat that I had felt coming from it was a tad bit stronger now and I wondered if the creature in it was a fight junkie. It seemed like the fights that I was getting involved in were affecting it.
[Giver of Gifts wonders if the being in the egg is actually scared of the fights that’s why it’s shivering.]
"Is it?" I wondered.
[Goddess of Wisdom says it’s your call now.]
"Ah, like how a child learns from the adults around them."
[Defender of Divine Glory prompts that maybe the being in the egg does like fights since both you and Goddess of Wisdom don’t shy away from any fight.]
I almost chuckled at that and Goddess of Wisdom started a row with Defender of Divine Glory and I placed my hand over the egg. It shuddered ever so slightly as if to respond to my touch.
"You want to see more fighting?" I asked and in response it shuddered again, its heart picking pace.
"All right, if you ask for more, I’ll give you more." I said before I walked back to the ground and stood in the center again.
"Master, are you going to punish Big Brother Kent more?" Sylvia asked.
"I-I think once was enough." Rowan said.
"Yes, if you beat him more, he’ll die."
"Oh, but Master can heal him again if he’s not dead, right?"
"Ah, that could happen."
"That way, Big Brother Kent would keep getting punished and then keep getting healed."
The kids started discussing and Kent who listened to it all seemed to have grown red with anger.
"Are you all planning to get me killed?!" He shouted.
"You won’t die, Big Brother." Cyrus said.
"Yes, Master will keep healing you." Viella added.
"You’ll just get hurt that would make you feel like you’d better die." Liam spoke earning snickers from the other kids making Kent look at me with a pleading gaze.
"I’ve got my lesson, I won’t curse in front of them. Please don’t kill me Master. I’m the only person who could handle these brats." Kent pleaded and I smiled.
"I wasn’t planning on asking you to come over again, Kent. Don’t worry." I said and he sighed with relief.
"Good for you, Big Brother Kent."
The kids laughed again and I rolled my eyes as I watched him scolding the kids.
"Lyall," I called as I turned my head and looked at the said man.
"How long have we had a spar?" I asked and Lyall removed his coat and stepped ahead.
"Quite a long time, Master." He answered.
I removed my cloak handing it to Sylvia who rushed ahead sensing my movements and pushed the sleeves of my shirt back till my elbows as I faced him.
"I guess we can have a little spar, can’t we?" I asked and a small smile graced his features.
"I’d be honoured to, Master."
"Wait, Master and Uncle Lyall’s fight!"
"Hurry and get back!"
The kids and Kent rushed away to give us space and Dad looked around as the kids converged to him as a protective shield.
"Why are you guys acting like this?" He asked.
"Master and Uncle Lyall’s fights are serious ones, they don’t use magic but it’s still very dangerous for anyone to be close to them." Sylvia explained.
"It’s like they forget that they have bystanders around." Kent clarified.
I could feel Dad’s eyes on me as I faced Lyall, both of us had our weapons, I wielded a short sword while he had his long blade. And after a couple of seconds, we shot from our spots.
