Chapter 299: 298. Time For Final Act (2)

Lyall moved without my word and walked up to the child before he scooped him up and checked his pulse and his condition. I cancelled the connection between myself and the child as what was to come from here it was only for me to deal with.

Lyall looked once at me and I gave him a nod before he took off, I faced the demon now who seemed like he was eager for what was about to come.

"You must have been thinking that once I cure the child you will get rid of me, right?" He asked with a devious grin.

"Yes, so?" I placed my hands over my hip, my Dragon’s Presence whooshed out of me and swirled around me.

He chuckled and then tilted his head, "I knew of this that’s why I came to get this one."

He held the Dragon sword ahead and I could feel the stone on the hilt pulse and oozing the energy. The demon was an idiot but he was smart enough to possess Arian. He must have sensed that the sword wouldn’t hurt Arian.

My heart seemed to pound at a fast pace and an unsettling feeling spread through my Presence. It was as if my senses and my power was going on a defense.

"You wouldn’t hand yourself to me without a fight, right?" The demon smirked, "Then let’s start, shall we?"

The breeze passed through us and in a split second we both shot from our spots, I used an ice sword to counter his but I knew it was useless. The Dragon sword sliced through my ice one but that wasn’t my plan anyways. I grabbed Arian’s wrist, my palms laced with the purification mana.

The demon dropped the sword in his other hand before slashing right at me, I flipped back right in time feeling the slightest of the nick at my throat. My heart trembled ever so slightly and I could feel the mana rush from my being around me oozing the purification spell and the Dragon’s Presence on full scale at the same time.

But I didn’t have time to do anything else as he came at me with the mad flurry of attacks, I dodged them while listening to his crazy laughter.

"What’s wrong, Dragon? Aren’t you the strongest one? Why are you falling back?" He cackled while I continued avoiding the sword.

The way he was handling the sword without much problem made me wonder if he had enhanced Arian’s body with his power, because for Arian it would be difficult to move so fast and also wield the sword with such expertise at the same time.

The demon was ripping Arian’s body apart just to kill me.

"I wonder how the other Dragons would feel when they see you running away from a demon." He laughed.

"A Dragon who puts its tail between its legs and not face their enemy."

My heart pounded and my blood turned ice, pulsating beneath my skin and I felt the water whooshing around me like a whirlpool.

"Don’t hide, Dragon!" The demon chuckled.

The whirlpool took a shape of a Dragon and rushed straight at the demon who grinned looking at it, he raised the sword to slash at the water Dragon while I moved from my spot.

He leapt from his spot slashing the Dragon which was about to attack him before the sword’s blade connected with my fist. I grimaced expecting it to cut through my arm but somehow there was a friction, I heard the sound of crack and a huge explosion occured sending Arian flying away and I landed on the ground feeling the pulsating energy from my palm.

I saw the ring of my forefinger the pink crystal that used to be on it was now gone, it was a device that Silas gave for the times of emergencies. I just had no idea that he had infused it with so much power that it could save from a Dragon sword’s attack.

Arian who had fallen a couple of feet away got to his feet, his body was starting to ooze the deep red mist mingled with black mist and I looked up to see the large red moon which made my blood crawl.

The demon laughed through Arian and looked at me.

"Aren’t you a trickster? Using such a thing to avoid me."

"You’re the one to say when you came all the way here to possess Arian just so you could get your hands on that sword." I gestured at the sword in his hands and he smirked.

"Fine then, I’ll put this sword aside for a moment. Let’s see how much of a fight you show me, Dragon." He smirked with an evil glint in his eyes.

"Fine," I said and he smirked before he lodged the sword into the chest of the dead body which was close to him.

He stood straighter and stretched Arian’s body before he got into a fighting stance with a mad grin on his face.

I stood in my spot for a moment before I rushed ahead, his eyes followed me but his body wasn’t fast enough as I swung my arm and it connected with Arian’s abdomen sending him flying back.

I didn’t give him enough chance as I grabbed him mid-air and slammed him down on the ground.

Arian coughed and wheezed as he lay there on the cracked land, his eyes momentarily rolled back in his eyes before they came back on and he moved.

The demon wasn’t caring about the body he was using, and till some extent not was I. I was holding my power back while the physical attacks, I could simply kill Arian and get rid of this demon right away but I wasn’t going to let Arian die here like this.

The demon coughed and threw up mouthful of blood before he straightened up wincing and letting out a weak laugh.

"And here I thought... that you wouldn’t kill this boy because he was a Crown Prince."

"I have no obligation of keeping him alive," I said and he chuckled wiping the blood from his chin.

"You don’t, do you? Then why’d you save him back then?" He asked and my eyebrows twitched.

"What?"

He smirked, "I knew you were coming to Denril that’s why I wanted to get my hands on this Dragon sword before you came, I had sent assassins to get rid of this boy but you intervened at that time. You saved the boy, why?"

I recalled the time when I and Lyall were entering the Denril and I had seen Arian being chased by a couple of soldiers who were wearing the Denril army’s crest. At first, I had no idea of why those assassins were trying to kill the Crown Prince of their nation at the time of war but I guess that underhanded trick was again of this guy.

"I don’t need any reason to save anyone." I announced and he laughed.

"How very generous of you! That’s why, you’re killing him right now, because he serves you no purpose anymore, huh?" He asked.

I rolled my eyes before I shot from my place and gripped his throat holding him up in the air. The impact made Arian to cough and wheeze as he flailed his legs in the air gripping my wrist.

"My mission and my people are the only things that I find important, I could sacrifice this kid and get rid of you right away." I spoke.

Arian or the demon writhed under my grip before he went still and started laughing.

"Arrogant, Dragon. Too full of yourself." He grinned before I felt the sharp blade slashing over my arm and I flipped back.

The shield of Invulnerability came up on time but it would still affect me, this demon’s attacks.

The scent of my blood spread through the air and I saw a deep gash on my arm with blood rushing out profusely. My disguise flickered ever so slightly and the demon stood in his place grinning devilishly at me before he started walking towards the dead body.

"You might have been thinking that the only thing that could harm you is a Dragon sword, right?" He said as he pulled out the sword and looked at me.

"But you forgot, we had killed Dragons during the war as well."

The rage filled my system, my heart pounded fast and my mana seemed to be taking the shape of a hurricane of destruction. The air around me trembled along with the ground and I felt my body changing somehow. My eyes grew sharper and my fingers clubbed and my nails grew into claws.

I could see the blue and white mist rising from my being as I got into a fighting stance.

"Now that’s what I wanted to see." The demon smirked.

Our fight started again, my attacks were more reckless now back with raw power and rage that was primal, it had nothing to do with the me of now. It was as if the Dragon’s blood had taken control and I was forced to just do its bidding.

The demon was using a black blade and the Dragon sword at the same time. I felt the sword’s attacks over my body at several spots but I wasn’t stopping, the black blade had also impaled me but I wasn’t feeling any pain.

It was as if the rage had blinded me completely and I was starting to lose control.

Just then the demon slashed the Dragon sword over my chest ripping a huge gash making me fly back.

The blood oozing from the wound and my Heart seemed to slow down, I felt my body tremble and another emotions take over. Fear. The memory of the sword impaling my heart flashed in my head. No, it wasn’t my heart, it was the Dragon.

My predecessor who was killed because of a Dragon sword, my heart and blood were responding to its memories. I felt the wounds on my body start to heal before I stood up watching Arian’s battered body still standing and the black and red mist rising from him.

He was dying, if the demon continued staying in his body and using him for the fight he would definitely die.

"What are you thinking, Dragon? Come at me." The demon taunted me.

I was tempted to, it was a rather easier decision to make considering all the pros and cons, I would just have to think of an alternative person to put on the throne of Denril in future but, Arian didn’t deserve to die like this.

He was a wielder of the Dragon sword, he hadn’t even developed his power so, letting him die in a place like this was an insult for the sword which had chosen him too.

I closed my eyes for a moment, calming my mana and saw the faces of my loved ones flashing in front of my eyes. My family, the people at Ryujin, the kids, the people of Oasis and my supporters. All of those who had put their trust and their lives in my hands.

This decision wasn’t a good one but I guess there was no other choice for me here.
