Chapter 239: 238. Goddess of Life (3)
"Yes, she’s already here and doing what she is supposed to do." I announced.
"You-"
Asher lashed out but I gripped his head and slammed his face into the ground, he still kept squirming and I couldn’t help but feel that I would easily crush his entire skull if I were to apply even a tad bit more strength. But, I didn’t want unnecessary deaths besides, he was in love with me.
"Mirielle will see you soon." I said making him grunt.
"She asked me to help you," I said and released the pressure on his head making him lift his face.
There was an extra gash on his forehead and fresh stream of blood flowing down his nose.
"She did... Did you tell her to join the Temple in exchange for that?"
I scoffed, "We do whatever we want. She wanted to come here so, she is and I am just taking advantage of that."
"Why are you even here?"
"Hm? For business." I smiled.
"What kind of business?" He narrowed his eyes and I smiled.
"That’s a secret."
"What kind of secret?"
"Just the kind that allows me to use the Temple as I please,"
His eyes grew strained, "What will you make Miss Mirielle do?"
"What she always does for me,"
"What do you mean?"
"She will do exactly as I say."
"You little-"
He growled and I reached out and gripped his jaw lifting his face a bit more.
"Listen here, boy. The girl you are covetting is mine so, you better not try to make things hard for her."
"If you really love her then you should never bring her here!"
I scoffed, "I told you, she wanted to come here and it wasn’t only because of you but also because I have some work in this place."
"Why are you involving Miss Mirielle in this?!"
"Because it’s impossible without her,"
"Do you call yourself a man? You are only using her for your benefit!"
I sighed, "Guess, taking you out is useless. I’ll tell Mirielle that you are happy in your spot."
I stood back up and he gasped.
"Wait!"
I looked down at him with my hands on my pockets.
"What?"
"You said, Miss Mirielle will come to see me, right?"
I chuckled as his thoughts were visible on his face pretty clearly, "You’re thinking of convincing her into running away with you, right?"
His face grew tight and I shook my head, "My words would be useless so, let her tell you what you should hear when you see her. Till then, hopefully you’ll still be alive."
I smiled as I stepped back and then out of the cell. Lyall locked the door and we walked back to the staircase. My eyes once again were on the door which was still blocked from my vision.
"Are you done with your talk?" Benedict asked.
"Is he still alive?" The pudgy priest asked.
I chuckled, "Yes, and Id like for him to be alive. Let him stay by Mirielle’s side when she comes here."
"Pardon, what?!" Benedict gasped while the other two gaped at me.
"There’s no one who would protect her better then him,"
"But, he tried to run away with her!" The large Priest said.
"Yes, there are a lot of chances that he will try it again and what if they manage to run away?" The pudgy one said.
"Don’t worry, my girl knows her bounds. She won’t run." I assured them.
"But, we still cannot trust Sir Asher. You don’t know, Lord Ace. He tried to attack me and he even injured some of the other Priests. He is dangerous."
I hummed tilting my head to one side, "High Priest, you see, I don’t like hearing no. Besides, I met with the Duke Lancaster just a couple of days ago."
Their faces grew tight as soon as I mentioned Damon.
"He told me that he would do anything in exchange for Mirielle’s support. He said I could take liberties with anything." I drawled out the last word making the three exchange looks.
"I am a businessman and I will choose the deal which will profit me the most so, please think of what benefits you." I smirked.
Benedict pursed his lips and looked as if he was on the verge of exploding. I liked teasing him.
"I... will think about it."
"Please do, and I hope the answer will be what I want to hear or," I spoke before I walked closer to him and placed my hand on his shoulder as I leaned my mouth over to his ear.
"I can make things happen the way I want, at any cost." My voice dropped and I saw him shudder before I patted on his shoulder twice.
I walked up the stairs with Lyall following me and the Priests also followed suit.
Mirielle would enter the Temple in a couple of days and from there would start the second phase of the plan.
Lyall was fidgeting in the carriage and I almost chuckled as I spoke up.
"Go on and ask whatever you want to ask, Lyall."
"Why... did you ask them to appoint Asher as your knight?"
I smiled, "Because he’s in love with Mirielle."
Lyall seemed a bit uncomfortable because of that fact but I was going to make thorough use of it.
"If he is in love with me then unlike all the other greedy bastards over there, he will stand by my side as a loyal pawn. He will also give me the information I need about the misdeeds of the Temple. And the biggest reason of them all, he is still of use to me and my plan. So, he needs to stay alive for a little more while."
Lyall stared at me before he nodded in understanding.
"Anything else?"
"What will you do about the Saint?"
"I’ll decide what to do if him once I see him again. That kid seemed a bit... strange when I saw him so, I want to know about him first before I do anything."
We reached back to the inn and I reverted to my original child’s self before going to sleep I was a bit tired from all the trouble that I had gone through in the past couple of days.
I fell asleep pretty quickly but even while I was asleep I could hear the faint voices of someone calling for me.
The voice pleaded with me and demanded more attention than anything ever had. I wondered who it was and just what deep predicament they were in to be so desperate for me that I could see them in my dream.
Still, whatever it was, I might come across it if it was recurring so strongly even in my subconscious.
I woke up a couple of hours later because of someone literally calling me and this time it was a familiar voice.
"Reina? Reina, are you there?" I sat up rubbing my eyes still feeling drowsy and sleepy.
I picked up the communication device and spoke up, "I’m here."
"... Your voice... Are you in Reina’s form?" Silas asked and I hummed.
"Yes, what’s the matter?" I asked.
"Your voice sounds a bit strange, are you not feeling well, perhaps?" He asked and I yawned.
"No, I just woke up from a nap."
I heard him sigh, "I know you have a Dragon’s blood in your but your human body still needs its allotted rest, Reina."
"I know... Why did you contact me?" I asked coming to the point.
"The construction of the Magic Gate will be done within the next two months and the King will want you back in Sestia to fulfill his part of the deal. Do you remember?"
King Roger had promised me that once the Magic Gate which would connect Mordino and Sestia would be made, he would bestow on me the title of the Margrave or Marquis. And for that, I would need to be in the capital in the Royal Palace in front of everyone.
"Two months of time is enough for me to finish my work here,"
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, and if it gets delayed for some reason then, please delay the work at your end as well." I said.
"Reina you-"
"I know, but don’t worry, I’ll try my best to finish in the given time, also how’s Miri?"
"I have a couple of letters addressed to you from her. I’ll hand them to you once you return."
"All right, I hope everything else is fine as well."
"Yes, nothing urgent demands attention as of now and I’ve also instructed your sources to not make any moves into digging for information about Viscount Jordan’s death."
"That’s good, thank you, Uncle."
He hummed before he asked, "How are things with... Uh... That man?"
"That man?"
"... The one who is in love with you."
"Ah... He’s still alive. My plan is also back on track so, the phase two of my plan will start from next week."
"Next week?"
"Yes, I’ll be entering the Temple next week with the title of ’Goddess of Life’."
Silas was silent for a moment before he said, "Please take care of yourself, Reina. Religion is quite a strong opponent."
"I know but my opponent isn’t the religion, it’s the greedy snakes who are using the religion for their benefit."
Silas sighed again, I could almost see him massaging his temples.
"Just... Take care, all right?"
"Yes, yes, I will. You too don’t overwork yourself."
Next week, I would finally enter the Temple.
