Chapter 235: 234. Plan B (2)
I let Lyall carry me for a while before we stopped when we reached the slum area and he let me down.
I stretched my arms above my head and cracked my neck before I faced him and his handful of men.
They seemed to be waiting for the next command.
"Report," I said instead and Lyall nodded.
"Please come this way, Master." He gestured me towards further inside the small establishment.
"Go back to your posts," Lyall ordered the other men who nodded and started leaving but not without glancing at me with slightly bewildered expressions.
They wouldn’t have expected the kidnapped person to be the mastermind themself.
Lyall carried my luggage and led me further inside the town, I could see the people around turning to look at him as he passed by. Their eyes then fixated on me and going wide with awe and a glow.
"What did you do to get the leadership of this place, Lyall?" I asked and he looked down at me.
"Yes?"
"People are staring at you as if they know you, what did you do?"
He cleared his throat averting his eyes making me curious.
"What? Did you beat up the previous leader and his entire gang in front of the entire town or something?" I asked.
He didn’t respond but I could see his answer clearly and it almost made laughter spill from my mouth.
"My goodness! You really beat up the people here?"
I continued laughing and his ears turned red.
"No wonder, those all people were staring at you."
We reached at the inn where we had had our last meeting when I had explained him he plan B and he led me up the stairs to a different room.
It was quite a decent room, probably the best in that dingy inn. It had a bed with clean sheets, a window, table and chair and a wardrobe and a separate door leading to bathroom.
Lyall placed my luggage on the table before he stood facing me and I twisted the sapphire earstud reverting to Ocean’s original form.
"Ah, I like this form the best!" I groaned as I felt the familiar flexibility and lightness in the body.
"Master?" Lyall spoke up and I hummed before I took a seat on the bed gesturing him to the chair.
He took a seat and inhaled deeply before he started the report.
"The High Priest has agreed to our deal." He told me and I smirked.
In the time that I was being caught up with Asher’s family’s mess, Lyall was busy making his influence in the underworld of Denril and simultaneously using my alias of Ace D’Arc to crack a deal with the Temple.
He had visited the Temple as my aka Ace’s representative to offer the Temple the deal which consisted the exchange of Saintess for the support of the Temple.
The Temple wanted to get rid of the nobles and make Denril a Holy Nation which would lead for the religious leaders to have equal power as the King. But the nobles weren’t that weak to be uprooted right away so, the Temple needed all the help that they could get. And taking advantage of that if a merchant was ready to hand them over a key that would strengthen the Temple then they would jump to take that chance.
A Saintess existence was already like a miracle but if there were two Saints then it was as good as saying that even God wanted the Temple to rule. The said Saint that was already in the Temple was a child so, he would grow up and take the influence ahead but as of now, if a Saintess who had equal or more power than him has appeared then they were greedily up for the offer.
"But they have put ahead a condition." Lyall said.
"What is it?"
"They would like to meet the leader of this merchant guild."
"Hm? So, they want to meet me."
"Yes,"
"All right, I’ll go see them." I shrugged my shoulders and Lyall pursed his lips in a tight line.
"What is it?"
"I just... find them really insolent."
I chuckled, "Then I’ll guess they need someone to teach them manners."
"Apart from that, they have also asked for the guild to provide donations to the Temple."
"We’re giving them the Saintess who will help them take over the nation and they want money?" I chuckled.
"Their greed knows no bounds, Master."
"Indeed, but I guess I need to teach them what it is like to make a deal with a Dragon." I smirked and Lyall shifted his weight from one foot to another.
He fidgeted a little before I tilted my head and asked, "What is it?"
"Did... Did that knight do anything to you?" He asked.
"Nope, he is quite a courteous fellow, he didn’t even confess his feelings let alone trying to make a move." I said waving my hand and Lyall cleared his throat
"And his family?"
"They were assuming that I was from the Temple at first but I fixed that so, don’t worry about it."
Lyall visibly relaxed after that and left the room to carry out some work while I rested in the room for the time being.
I didn’t realise it I fell asleep or something but I faintly heard the voices around me.
"That girl is the Master that Lord Lyall was taking about?"
"She doesn’t look that strong though."
"But she’s beautiful."
"Yes, well, can’t deny that."
"I almost stopped breathing when I saw her pass by."
"My heart skipped a beat."
"Devil’s sure do look so enticing."
"I wouldn’t mind if she’s a Devil. I’d be happy to spend my..."
I tuned the voices out as I focused only on my breathing. My blood thrummed ever so slightly as it rushed through my veins and for some reason my head felt hazy.
"He..."
I could hear faint voices again.
"He...lp..."
"He...lp... me..."
"Lor...d Dra...gon..."
Slowly I could make out the words that the faint voice was saying.
"Help me, Lord Dragon."
I saw a dark cell where a white lump was huddled over, I could smell the thick scent of blood choking the air and the whimpers filled with pain were trembling in the dreary surroundings.
"Help me, Lord Dragon!"
I opened my eyes with a loud gasp and blinked several times through the drowsy vision before I sat up holding my head.
"What the... hell was that?" I mumbled.
The voice seemed like it belonged to a child and for a moment the faces of my elf and dwarf children flashed before my mind’s eye making my rage surge through my veins.
But then I shook my head, they couldn’t be attacked with all the precautions that I had taken to keep them safe. So then, who was that child?
Rune and others were quite older and more muscled than the small huddled figure that I saw.
"Hey, do you guys know who that was?" I asked my Patrons.
[Giver of Gifts says that that person is in need of your help.]
[Goddess of Wisdom says you shouldn’t ask them.]
[Defender of Divine Glory says that you have to find that out on your own.]
"What did I expect?" I sighed as I got down from the bed.
I washed my face and donned on the black mask which covered the upper half of my face and left my cloak back in the room before I went downstairs.
Lyall wasn’t there, I looked around and went straight to the mess hall where a couple of people were. I sat down on the chair and a maid approached me with a tentative smile.
"Wha-What would you like to eat?" She asked.
"Everything that’s on the menu except for alcohol, please." I said making her nod before she looked at me with her eyes wide in shock.
"P-Pardon?" She gasped.
"Everything that’s on the menu except for the alcohol, and don’t make me repeat the next time." I smiled making her face go pale.
"Y-Yes, right away!" She stuttered before she scurried away.
[Defender of Divine Glory condemns you for scaring the weak.]
I didn’t scare her though.
I shrugged my shoulders as I waited for my food and I looked around. There were only a handful of people who were eating but they were constantly turning to look at me as I sat there.
After a couple of minutes, the maid served me the starters, every dish that was on the menu.
"I-I’ll bring the rest of your order when it’s made," she spoke in a trembling voice.
"All right," I smiled and she turned to leave.
"Ah, wait,"
She flinched and turned to look at me again.
"Where’s the leader of this place?" I asked crossing my foot one over the other to sit comfortably.
"Pa-Pardon?"
"The one who became the leader of this place recently, did you see him?" I asked.
"I-I don’t know." She stuttered and I nodded.
"All right,"
I focused on my food after that and she scurried away again.
After a while, I saw her walking towards the other table, which was considerably closest to mine with the mugs of beer in her hands. She was carrying around four mugs on her own.
I continued eating when suddenly from my peripheral vision I saw her ankle twisting and the beer she was carrying splashed all over me.
The trail of the beer streamed down my hair and face. The thick scent clogged into my nostrils making me scrunch my nose a little and I turned to the girl.
Her eyes started watering and her body trembled before I could even comprehend what was going on, she quickly got down on her knees with her head on the ground.
"Please forgive me for lacking! I-I apologise for dropping the beer on you! Please don’t kill me!"
