Chapter 207: 206. Long Journey Ahead (3)
The priests stared at me with wide eyes and then at the priest who was kneeling in front of me.
"I was blessed with the power," I said bringing my hand up.
"To aid the people who are suffering so, I hope you will accept my help." I smiled.
Lyall and I were allowed to stay at the temple’s rooms, I was given a rather better and clean room with a proper bed.
At night, I lied down comfortably watching the dark ceiling with the sound of crickets filling the silence.
Denril was a country which unlike Sestia had a stronger influence of religion. There was even a Saint here who was said to be blessed by Saintess Miella herself and he had healing abilities. There were very few healing mages in this world and among them those who were in Denril were all taken to the temple and given best facilities so that they would stay there and do the temple’s bidding.
The Saint according to what I heard was a man who had appeared in the ruins of an ancient temple which was like a preserved site where no one except for the Pope and the high position priests were allowed.
But this guy appeared there out of nowhere and he also had quite strong healing powers so the temple took him as a Saint and since then he had become a celebrity.
And the effect of his existence was that Denril’s royalty and other affairs were also influenced by the temple.
I didn’t know what this Saint was but I knew one thing that I needed to do my work smoothly and for that I might have to clash with this guy if he became a hurdle in my path. But then again, if I had to clash with the temple so, this guy would have to become either a collateral damage or an example that I could set before the world.
Besides, I wouldn’t even need to go to them myself they would come looking for me because with my first step I had activated the butterfly effect spell.
There was currently a plague that was spreading across the fringes of the kingdom and was expanding rapidly in the inner circles. The temple was already having a hard time and the empire could face defeat if this plague wasn’t contained but then again, only a handful of priests were capable of healing so, if they found a person who was capable of healing then, one could imagine what they would do.
The plague was quite a deadly one, the victims who were infected by it would die with two weeks of contracting it with their bodies and organs rotting. The major symptom of this disease was the bloody coughs and the brown rashes that would appear on the victim’s skin.
Besides, it was a highly contagious disease with no cure so, the ones who got infected were abandoned for good. I had this much information but not the source of this plague.
My informants had said that this plague had just start spreading out of nowhere which brought up various possibilities. I thought of water to be the one but there weren’t any connecting water sources for some villages were the infection had spread so, I was sure that it might be air.
And if it was the air then, the problem was bigger.
I released a sigh and closed my eyes as I knew the relaxation period of the past one and a half year would be exacted by ten times of work that I had now to do.
The next morning, I was facing the crowd of people who were lying on the beds, most of them were malnourished or infected so, they were placed in a barn which could fit the largest amount of people.
The small town of Nors wasn’t that populated but I guess more than half of the population was infected.
Apart from the smell of the animals which used to live there, now the space was filled with the stench of blood, excrement and rotting flesh.
The barn will filled with the cacophony of the moans and wails of the infected people, the healthy people weren’t allowed in the barn since the rest of the villagers didn’t want the infection to spread more.
In simpler terms, these people here were abandoned by their families and villagers.
"A pandemic can bring out the real faces of the people," I muttered and Lyall who stood beside me looked a bit uncomfortable.
"If you want please go and stand outside,"
"I can’t leave you here alone, Master."
"I’ll be fine, besides, it’ll be bad of you get infected too."
"I don’t mind."
"I do!"
Lyall still stayed in the barn at a safe distance from the patients who lay on the makeshift beds and the priests waited for me to start.
The patients who looked at me slowly stirred and reached out to me, their eyes were glazed and bloodshot and one could practically see their life diminishing from their eyes.
I grasped the hand of the person who lay in front of me and smiled at him.
"Please rest assured, you will be cured." I said and his pale lips stretched into a smile.
I let go of his hand and he frowned before I looked at the priests, "Please stand back."
"Yes?"
"I am going to cast a large scale spell for all the distressed people so, I would need the others to step back."
"Ah, yes, yes!"
The priests seemed quite docile now that they knew of my powers and were listening to my eagh command patiently.
Once they stepped back and I walked up to the center of the room and felt the groans and the moans around me multiply as if the presence of impending death was swirling around me like a brewing whirlpool.
[Supreme Healing Activated.]
My eyes glowed blue momentarily before the mana in me rushed out like the waves of tsunami washing over those who were around me. I controlled the flow of my mana and watched the people around me who seemed to be staring at something at the ceiling. While curing the patients, I could feel my mana also cleansing the air around us and filling it with the vitality of life.
I stopped the spell and the patients slowly rose from their beds looking at their arms and touching their faces and bodies before their faces brightened up with grins.
"We’re cured!"
"There’s no pain!"
"I’m healed!"
"Goddess!"
"Goddess has descended!"
I expected to see the notification of mana exhaustion but it didn’t pop up, I didn’t even feel tired after casting the spell for over thirty people.
The people who were cured cheered while Lyall rushed to me and I held his forearm feigning weakness as I couldn’t show them that I was completely fine even after casting such a large scale spell.
"Goddess!"
"Goddess has come to save us!"
Lyall looked concerned as he held my shoulders and gently guided me past the crowd of people towards the priests who were standing rooted in their places with wide eyes.
"How..."
"A Goddess has really descended to deliver us!" Weiner, the first person whom I had cured after coming here claimed.
I gave him a weak smile and the oldest priest who kept staring at me cleared his throat.
"I am not a Goddess," I said and the second eldest shook his head.
"If you are not a Goddess then you must be a Saintess!" He announced.
"I’m not a Saintess too, I’m simply a healing mage."
He shook his head again before he started speaking.
"There haven’t been any healing priest who had managed to cure so many people at once without collapsing. Except for the Saint himself no one else has been able to achieve the feat of healing numerous distressed. You must be the chosen Saintess sent by Dragon Gods!"
Now, who would tell them that I was a Dragon myself?
I didn’t say anything at that and Lyall took the lead, "My Master is not feeling well, please give way, I must take her to her room for some rest."
"Yes! Yes!"
The priests parted and Lyall towed me out followed by the second eldest who was speaking about the greatness of the Saint. I reached all the way back to my room and once inside my room I dropped my act and stretched my arms above my head hearing the satisfying pops.
"Master, are you-"
"Yes, I’m fine." I assured him before I plopped down on the bed.
I looked as he stood there fidgeting and I asked.
"What is it?"
"We have to keep travelling with you in this form, Master?"
"Yes."
His lips thinned and I tilted my head slightly as he said, "I will make sure to protect you well,"
"What?"
He shook his head and I chuckled as I thought he might be worried because I was in a beautiful woman’s form.
"I will be in danger, Lyall. More than you are thinking right now."
He flinched and opened his mouth but I rose my hand stopping him.
"But these mere humans could do nothing to me, I will get rid of anyone who would get on my nerves so, rest assured. I won’t be hurt."
Lyall seemed only half assured but I let it go as he would understand with time.
