Chapter 205: 204. Long Journey Ahead (1)
Lyall and I had our small bagpacks on our backs and he was staring down at the tree tops that were way below us.
My wings gave a flap before we picked more pace and noticed several spots where the cantonment tents were.
We had teleported over to the border and from there I had decided to take us beyond the warzone by flight. Lyall had agreed to be carried like a Princess by me and I could see that he enjoyed watching scenery from so high up.
"There’s the border," he pointed at the mountain range and I hummed.
I tilted us a little before we dove past the mountains, since the invisibility was on I knew no one would be able to see us.
I could see a few enemy camps before noticing something strange, a group of people with the insignia of Denril’s army were running behind a single person.
I scowled as I saw that person momentarily stopping at instances before slashing at his pursuers. It seemed like he was having some trouble moving around freely, he was swaying and continuously tripping.
"It seems like one of our people ended up on this side and are now being chased, Master." Lyall said as he too saw it.
I dove down and dropped Lyall on the tree branch.
"Wait here," I instructed and he nodded.
I leapt down and swung my foot making the last standing knight to fly and slam against the tree before going completely still.
The ones who noticed halted for a moment and I moved swiftly for them, I snapped the neck of the nearest guy before slammed the next person’s head against the tree bark. The next person who was scared and looking around while swinging his sword like crazy.
I gripped his sword and crushed it in my grip making him yelp and fall back and the last person with him let out a warcry before rushing at me with his sword raised high. His eyes were unfocused so, I just sidestepped before punching in his side hearing his ribs crack and stab into his lungs. He let out a gasp before he fell to the ground and the last person who was currently on the ground trembling all over looked around with wide, terrified eyes.
I walked up to him and grabbed the front of his armor before throwing him into the boudler a few feet away and heard his spine snap before he slipped down and slumped on the ground.
I looked at the boy who was standing there with his legs trembling and the sword pointing at me. He had bright scarlet hair with fiery orange eyes.
For some reason, I could feel the strange sensation from that sword. It seemed to be infused with a lot of mana power and it wasn’t the power of the guy who was holding it.
The guy seemed quite young for his age as he stood there looking lean and trembling like a leaf caught in the storm.
I walked up to him, hearing his rugged breathing and watching as the sweat slid down the sides of his face and pupils quivering.
He wasn’t all right. Hell, he seemed like he would collapse any second but his grit of standing against his attackers impressed me.
I removed the invisibility spell and the boy gasped as he saw me, he wasn’t older than Rune, probably around the same age.
"I won’t hurt you," I spoke softly watching as the boy had grown even more strained.
Yet, my attention was being pulled towards the large sword in his hands, it seemed to be tugging me towards it. There was a strange gravitational field which I couldn’t understand emanating from that sword.
"Wh-Who are you?" The boy demanded, his voice was hoard and rough.
"A traveller," I lied.
"As if!" He spat, "Tell me, who are you?"
"Since I saved your life, it’s clear that I’m not an enemy, right?" I said as I moved closer to him.
He flinched as he thrusted his sword at me and for some reason my Dragon blood sizzled making me step back.
"Stay away," he growled and I sighed.
I was a bit confused as to why my blood had pulled me back as there was no weapon that could hurt me except for-
I noticed as how the boy was slowly staggering behind until his back was against the tree with his arms trembling as he held that heavy sword in his hands.
I activated Mana Eyes and frowned as I noticed the poison spreading through his body rapidly. His organs were starting to fail and he would go into cardiac arrest within a few minutes.
"You’re dying." I spoke up.
"I... know..." He spoke gruffly.
"I can save you,"
"I... don’t... want to... owe... you..." He huffed.
"I saved your life already," I stated, "You owe it to me."
He opened his mouth to argue but no voice came out only the gurgled sound followed by violent coughing and blood. I sighed as I walked over to him, he tried to bring his sword up but it was too heavy for his arms which had lost their strength now.
[Defender of Divine Glory has assigned you a task.]
"What now?"
[Defender of Divine Glory asks you to choose between saving Crown Prince of Denril or letting him die.]
[What would you choose?
- Save the Crown Prince of Denril.
- Let him die.]
My eyes widened and I looked at the boy who was barely on his feet in front of me with blood streaming down his mouth and nostrils.
This kid was none other than the Crown Prince of Denril, Arian, then why were those knights trying to kill him?
I shook my head as I noticed the time was running out for him and he would die within a couple of minutes if I didn’t intervene.
I didn’t expect to run into this guy of all people on the day when I had decided to go to Denril. It wasn’t supposed to be like this, this guy wasn’t supposed to be dying here in this state. I needed him for my future work.
"All right, I’ve made a decision." I said as I reached out and gripped the boy’s arm making him slash his sword at me.
I didn’t expect it but the searing pain slashed over my arm where the sword sliced through and I noticed for the first time the blood. My original body was also hurt.
"How is this possible..." I whispered as I saw blood oozing from the wound inflicted on my arm from that sword.
I gripped the sword and had a good look at it ignoring his resistance.
The craftsmanship and element used to make the sword was unmistakably something that I had seen. It was a sword made of Dragon’s bones.
I was staring at the sword feeling my wound healing and then at the boy who was barely awake in front of me.
"You can’t die here," I mumbled as I felt him slump over in my arms.
I held the sword in one hand while cradling the boy with another, he was breathing laboriously and his body temperature was really high.
"If you’re the guy who can wield this sword then, its obvious that I’m not letting you die." I announced and the task was accepted.
I carried the boy and placed him on the flat rock nearby before staring at his body. His internal organs were starting to shut down and his heart was also having a hard time.
I sighed and placed my hand over his chest before activating the Supreme Healing spell.
My mana rushed out of my palm engulfing the boy’s body, I could see the poison being cleansed and organs and blood vessels healing. Only a couple of minutes and it was done.
[Task complete.]
I stepped back as I saw him slowly gaining consciousness, he quickly sat up as he realised he could move his body. He looked at his arms and his body before he whipped his head to look at me.
"What did you do to me?" He demanded.
I stared at him silently as I held his sword in my hand, for some reason, I could feel the anguished waves emanating from it.
"Where did you find this sword?" I asked.
"Who are you to ask? Return it!" He jumped down from the rock.
"Where did you find this sword?" I repeated making him scowl at me.
"It does not matter to you-"
I activated my Dragon’s Presence making his eyes go wide before he sank to his knees feeling the overwhelming pressure on his shoulders.
"What are you..."
"Answer my question." I demanded.
"My father gave it to me!" He shouted.
"Do you know what this sword is?" I asked.
"He told me it’s a Dragon’s Slayer sword! Stop it, now!"
I stared down at him before looking at the sword with the white gold hilt and the red ruby stones that were studded on it.
I brushed my finger over the ruby feeling the hum of energy from it. The flash of bright red light sparked from it making the boy gasp and I felt the presence of the Dragon whose essence was trapped into this sword.
I placed the ruby over my forehead feeling the rush of emotions from my blood before I released a deep sigh.
I wanted to take the sword with me but I knew I couldn’t, I had to first find out about this sword and from where it came to the King of Denril before I could do anything to this kid.
I removed the Dragon’s Presence from Arian’s body making him inhaled and exhaled deeply before he coughed and looked at me.
I walked over to him making him flinch and presented his sword back to him.
He stared at me cautiously before he took the sword.
"Treat it with respect, child. This sword is not a Dragon’s Slayer sword but a sword which has the soul of a Dragon."
Arian frowned at me before I stepped back.
"What do you mean?"
"The Dragon in your hand deserves a strong partner so, grow stronger to be worthy of that sword, child. The next time we meet, I won’t guarantee mercy."
"What the-"
I didn’t stop to hear what he wanted to say before I flapped my wings and activated invisibility spell leaving the kid.
