Chapter 157: 156. Royal Summon (1)
Lord Devil’s people who were captured by the kidnappers were at count only four, they thanked me when I said I was acquainted with their Master and decided to return right away.
The people who had no homes decided to travel to Oasis to get the treatment and homes.
Since the population was quite a lot so, I shifted some people to Herot city.
I felt at ease having everything under control again being back to my Ryujin mansion with all the people back to safety as well.
I faced the team of seven men who were kidnapped as they now stood in my office, they couldn’t hide the glow in their eyes as they looked around my study and then at me.
Their injuries weren’t as serious but I had allowed them to have a few days off after they would give me a report of what happened with them.
"... We... don’t really know, Master." One of them said making me cock my brow.
"I-I mean, we know we were brought to that place at night but... I don’t know how we were kidnapped." Another said.
"Yes!"
"It was like one moment I was standing on the rooftop watching over the streets and in the next second, everything was black."
"Yes, that’s right."
"Same thing happened to me as well."
"Me, as well."
The seven agreed with each other and I couldn’t help but frown as it was quite vague.
"What about when you were in that cave?" I asked.
"I was already shackled when I came to my senses."
"Same with me, there were a lot of people around who were in the same position so, we knew instantly that we also fell into the trap of the kidnappers like the others."
"Anything else?"
"The mercenaries were talking about shifting the people in small groups somewhere."
I could go looking for the other secret bases that could be around that cave but with the way the cave ended up I wouldn’t be surprised if the other place, if it was close by, would also be demolished in the similar fashion.
"Was there ever any other person except for the mercenaries whom you saw? A noble or anyone?" I asked.
"No, except for the mercenaries and the few more victims, no one else came down there."
"They used to speak of some ’My Lord’, though." One of them said.
"My Lord?" I mumbled as I steepled my fingers staring off into the distance.
"Ah, Master, one more thing,"
I looked at one of them who suddenly spoke up, "I heard some mercenaries discussing about the money that they were going to get soon for delivering the fodder."
Fodder?
"Ah, yes, but I guess they were talking about the extortion that they would be getting from the towns." Another one said.
"Huh?" The first one frowned.
"Yeah, you didn’t see? Those men were the same ones who were saw during daytime extorting money and food from the townspeople."
"Right, I saw them too."
The seven murmured amongst themselves before they looked at me.
"Tha-That’s all, Master."
I released a low breath before I nodded, "Good work you all, if you remember anything else then come straight to me, do you understand?"
"Yes, Master!"
I nodded pondering over it and before I could dismiss him one of them spoke up.
"Um, Master?"
"Yes, is there something else?"
"Er... That..." The men exchanged glances before facing me.
"I-Is it true that you were looking for us personally for all these days all over those towns?"
"Yes,"
I felt them stiffen up as they stared at me with wide eyes.
"If there’s nothing else then you all may leave now."
"Yes, Master!"
"We’ll do our best to not trouble you again!"
"We’ll work harder!"
"Yes! So, please keep looking after us, Master!"
The seven left the office leaving me slightly confused and after a few minutes, Roan entered followed by Remi who carried the tray of tea and snacks.
"Good afternoon, Master." Remi smiled as he set the tray on the table.
He had taken up the duty of providing me meals and tea on time after Enora had left. Besides, he brewed the same kind of tea that Enora used to prepared for me.
"Here you go." Remi handed me the teacup which was was filled with the rich red, fragrant fluid.
I took the cup and inhaled the refreshing smell feeling myself relax.
"You learned how to make it from Enora, didn’t you?" I asked and he gave me a sheepish smile.
"Yes, Master. She told me to look after you in her absence so, I’m trying my best." Remi said.
"Why don’t you try and help with the paperwork too then?" Roan asked, "It’s way too much."
"He’s chosen his own work, Roan." I spoke making him grumble.
"I-If you teach me then, I’ll be happy to help!" Remi spoke up with an eager smile.
"Hah? Really?!" Roan shouted with an expectant look and I couldn’t help but smile.
It was good to be back in a relaxing environment again.
I wrote a letter to Lord Devil after that, telling him of what happened and also that I’d rescued the people who were abducted.
I had it sent and got the reply four days later with his heartfelt thanks for taking care of the matter without anything big happening.
We were relieved that it was solved while I kept thinking about that mysterious presence which I was on the lookout for.
I was starting to return to my normal days when a sudden letter hit me like an unexpected storm.
"An Imperial order?! Again?" Roan gasped as he saw the letter in my hands.
"Is it to send you for the war too?" He asked making Remi who was pouring me tea to freeze.
"What? War?!"
The seal was unmistakably of the royal family, I opened the envelope and plucked out the letter looking at the contents while Roan and Remi stared at me fidgeting and uneasy.
I sighed deeply as I closed my eyes feeling my head starting to pound as I placed the letter down.
"What is it, Master?" Remi asked hesitantly.
"Do you have to go for the war too?" Roan asked.
"Kind of." I said making the two go pale and exchanged a glance.
"Where?"
"Royal palace." I said.
"Eh?"
"Royal palace... of Denril?" Roan wondered.
"No, Royal palace of Sestia, Leiden. It’s a royal summon." I clarified making the two sigh.
"Thank God!"
"It’s only a Royal Summon."
The two looked relieved making me shake my head. They might take it lightly but since I had received a formal invitation from the Queen herself. I couldn’t just ignore it or send a reply saying I wasn’t available.
It wasn’t a function or ball which I could just not attend.
"It’s from her." I spoke running my hand through my face.
"Her?" Remi tilted his head to side.
"Her Majesty?!" Roan gasped.
I nodded.
"Damn, now that’s a bad news." He spoke making me sigh.
"What could the Queen want from you though?"
"I’m a key piece in the current game happening in the royal court. I was involved in Douglas incident, I took over Herot city and I’m also involved with the Magic Gate building that would connect Sestia and Mordino. It’s obvious that she wants to know what kind of a person I am."
"In short, she wants to see if she can make use of you." Roan concluded making me look at him.
"That’s right."
I heard Remi sniggering as he heard that and I turned my gaze on him.
"What’s so funny?" Roan asked.
Remi covered his mouth as he continued sniggering before he said, "I-I’m sorry... So foolish..."
I cocked my brow while Roan crossed his arms at his chest making Remi shake his head.
"I mean... The Queen is so foolish." He said, "She dares to think she can use someone like you."
He burst out laughing again making Roan smirk while I leaned back with a smile.
Well, I guess I was too preoccupied with the stuff going around me that I actually forgot the power I held behind the scenes.
"That’s true though," Roan said, "That woman won’t even know when she becomes a pawn in your game instead."
"She is already." I corrected making him laugh while Remi smiled.
"But, will you show your face to her then?" Roan asked.
"About that," I smiled as I had an idea about it.
"Well, if it’s Master then I guess we can look forward to it." Remi smiled making me chuckle.
The Summon was for a week later so, I decided to see if I could meet up with Lord Devil but strangely enough, there was no reply from him.
I asked some of my men to look into his side but except for the usual report of him being busy with his business nothing was known. It seemed as if he was dealing with some problems on his side but since he hadn’t asked for any more assistance, I didn’t pry anymore.
The situation at the battlefield wasn’t quite eventful as well, Rune and Eric were continuously engaging in short battles but thanks to their strategic thinking and expertise in turning the tables they were able to win all of them.
Besides that, I hadn’t heard from Lyall or Enora about this mysterious Monster Battalion yet so, I was wondering if I would have to speed up my plans after all.

"You’re right, my team is quite strong. Even if they failed to defeat them they would make sure to send me the intel about them. I should just sit back and wait for them to reach back to me."
