Chapter 1397: Chapter 1397: It Can Be Considered a Grand Play
Hearing his words, Lin Caisang glanced sideways, looking at Sui Zimo.
That meant that what Brother Molian had found out was indeed true but also largely altered.
Madam Chen and Old Master Chen indeed argued often, but it was only Old Master Chen who resorted to hitting.
"Does your Madam Chen get beaten often? Why would Old Master Chen hit his own wife? Is it because Madam Chen neglects her children and always goes out, never returning home?"
"The Madam neglects her children?"
The servant seemed truly amused by Lin Caisang’s words, he lowered his head, let out a barely perceptible chuckle, but it was still caught by Sui Zimo.
"Huh,"
But he quickly shook his head.
"You have no idea, our Chen Family’s Madam, she isn’t any virtuous woman. She was bought by my master from outside, chosen for her looks, and under the dissent of the Old Madam and the Dowager Madam, she was married in as the second wife."
"The second wife?"
Lin Caisang blinked her eyes.
She hadn’t known, that the Chen Family had so much going on.
"So she is the second wife, no wonder then. I guess your master must not have cared much about this purchased Madam Chen before, right? If it were me, I wouldn’t care for such a woman who was bought either."
Her tone became somewhat frivolous. Only in this way could she resonate with the servant in order to dig out more insider stories.
Sure enough, her words immediately gained the servant’s approval.
"Exactly,"
He clapped his hands together, his eyes lighting up.
"For that woman, the master had made both the Old Madam and the Dowager quite unhappy. Eventually, when he made the Dowager ill, he had no choice but to leave the young master with the Old Madam and send that woman to apologize to the Dowager.
What did she really amount to, huh? A purchased woman, trying to compare herself with the Old Madam and the Dowager? As if she were fit to!"
Hearing this, Lin Caisang and Sui Zimo exchanged glances.
"And then what happened?" Zimo asked.
He knew that the reason the servant was so forthcoming was probably because Sang’er acted upon what he had said earlier, giving something to the servant.
"And then? What else could happen? That woman audaciously tried to vie with the Old Madam for the young master, which was like seeking death. How could our master agree to that? It often angered the Dowager....
So the master frequently disciplined that woman, beating her until her nose was blue and her face swollen, breaking arms and legs, that was a common occurrence.
But in our Chen Family, this wasn’t considered anything serious. It’s the woman’s own fault for being so dim-witted, not understanding her place, and still thinking she could contend with the Old Madam and the Dowager!"
Not long afterward, the sound of crying and wailing from outside grew louder, and by then, Lin Caisang and Sui Zimo had asked everything they could of the servant, who had been utterly candid with them.
Lin Caisang raised an eyebrow at Sui Zimo, and he promptly let the servant go.
"It seems the Chen Family really is quite the drama," Lin Caisang said to Sui Zimo.
The Chen Family’s Old Madam and the Dowager were indeed born to act; they had performed such a show in front of them before, nearly deceiving them completely.
She had thought that Madam Chen had done things to displease Old Master Chen, neglecting her own son to the point of being beaten and scolded without any chance to fight back.
