Chapter 1396: Chapter 1396: They even get physical when the argument gets fierce

"Just now, I casually mentioned to the steward that Old Master Chen’s body has turned into a jar of ashes, and the steward seemed unable to believe it, and by now, the steward might have already gone to report this situation to the Chen Family."

Zimo said.

If Old Master Chen’s body wasn’t cremated by Madam Chen and Mo Tong, and had nothing to do with the Chen Family, then who would dig up a grave, burn a corpse, and then place it into a jar back inside the coffin?

An enemy?

That’s hardly possible.

If it were an enemy, why bother putting the ashes back in a jar? Wouldn’t leaving the body unburied be a better way to take revenge?

Hearing his words, Lin Caisang furrowed her brows again.

Brother Molian deliberately told the steward that Old Master Chen’s body had been cremated, allowing the Chen Family to spread the news themselves.

By observing from the sidelines, perhaps they could figure out the reasoning behind it.

"The murderer must be someone from the Chen Family," she said.

Cremating the body was simply to prevent those investigating the case from discovering anything, but besides the Chen Family, who else would cremate a body and then carefully place it back inside the coffin?

"I’ve seen the ashes in the jar, and they are indeed human remains, nothing else."

"So the target is narrowed down to the people of the Chen Family, shrinking the scope quite a bit, so we shouldn’t be delayed here too long," Zimo casually remarked.

Lin Caisang: "..."

Brother Molian, are you being serious?

But, haven’t I told you? Even if we stay for a long time in a virtual task, it’s just a moment in real time?

However, now is not the time to worry about that; they still needed to think about how to find the hidden murderer in the Chen Family.

"Molian..."

"Ah!"

She wanted to say something else to Zimo but she heard a sharp cry from outside.

"What’s going on?"

She immediately glanced sideways, looking toward the door.

Zimo had already opened the door before her.

"What’s happening outside? Has someone been hit?"

Upon opening the door, they could hear even more clearly the sound of crying and cursing coming from not far off in the courtyard.

And that familiar voice, they had heard it before, was Madam Chen’s voice, along with Old Madam Chen and Grand Old Madam Chen’s voices—it seemed the three Chen women had gathered together again and were causing a commotion.

He grabbed a servant who was just passing by the door and asked.

"I don’t know; it’s Old Madam and Grand Old Madam having another quarrel with Madam Chen. They’ve been arguing for quite a while now about Old Master Chen’s body," the servant replied to Zimo.

The quarrel had started earlier but had escalated greatly just now, to the point of being startlingly intense.

"Do your Madam and the Old Madams often quarrel?" Lin Caisang stepped out and asked.

She noticed the servant, while answering Zimo’s question, had no change in expression, as if the women’s squabble was a common occurrence in the household.

"Yes."

The servant nodded in response to Lin Caisang’s question.

"Madam often quarrels with the Old Madams, and not just with them but also with Old Master Chen. They used to argue quite often, and sometimes, it would get violent," he said.

"Violent?"

Zimo looked at the servant.

"Did Madam Chen hit Old Master Chen?"

"Impossible!"

The servant, hearing his question, chuckled as if amused.

"Young Master Ya jokes. How could Madam, a frail woman, ever overcome Old Master Chen? He was skilled in martial arts; with a simple lift of his hand, he could leave Madam covered in blood," he said.

He continued.
