Chapter 26: [Volume 1] Chapter 26-Crazy person.

"Please raise your hand to draw blood," the physician instructed, her voice steady as she prepared the necessary equipment.

Esme, standing confidently in front of the machines, gave a small, almost imperceptible smile. Just as she began to lift her arm, Kai’s voice cut through the silence like a blade.

"Wait!" he commanded, his tone sharp and authoritative.

All eyes turned to Kai, the room suddenly alive with curiosity and unease. Esme paused, her hand still halfway lifted, her expression unreadable as she looked at Kai. The tension in the room escalated, and even the physician hesitated, unsure of what was about to happen.

Mr. Vallahe, who had been standing anxiously to the side, suddenly pointed a trembling finger at Kai, his voice rising with a mix of desperation and triumph.

"See! I told you!" he barked, his tone almost feral with accusation. "She is Esme, and they are lying!" His outburst echoed through the room, causing a stir among the onlookers, who began murmuring amongst themselves.

Kai turned his gaze slowly towards Mr. Vallahe, his expression cold and unyielding. The tension between them crackled like static electricity, as if the air itself had thickened with the weight of the accusation. Esme, still standing with her arm half-raised, watched the exchange with a calm that belied the chaos around her.

The murmurs grew louder as the crowd began to question everything. Could Mr. Vallahe be right? Had they all been deceived? The situation teetered on the edge of chaos, the room a swirling maelstrom of doubt and suspicion.

Kai’s lips curled into a slight, dangerous smile, one that didn’t quite reach his eyes. He remained silent, letting Mr. Vallahe’s words hang in the air like a guillotine poised to drop, but his expression made it clear that he wasn’t the least bit intimidated by the older man’s accusations.

Kai walked up to Esme, his eyes locked onto the physician with a stern glare before swiftly snatching the needle from her hand. "I’ll do it," he stated firmly, his voice brooking no argument. The tension in the room thickened as everyone watched the exchange.

Esme, ever the provocateur, couldn’t resist teasing him. "Oh my, are you jealous?" she asked, her smile playful, eyes sparkling with mischief.

Kai’s expression remained stone-faced, though a flicker of irritation crossed his features. Without missing a beat, he grabbed her raised hand. "Shut up," he muttered, clearly annoyed but focused on the task at hand.

With practiced ease, Kai injected the needle into Esme’s arm, drawing her blood with a steady hand. The room was silent, every eye on the couple as if watching an intense drama unfold. Once the syringe was filled, he turned to the physician, holding it out with an air of authority.

"Make sure to test it carefully, without any mistakes," he warned, his tone laced with a clear threat. The physician, visibly nervous and sweating under the pressure, nodded quickly, taking the syringe with trembling hands.

The air in the room was thick with suspense, the crowd watching with bated breath as the physician carefully secured the blood sample. Kai’s imposing presence left no room for error, and everyone knew that this test could either shatter or solidify the accusations flying around. The stakes had never been higher.

After a while, the physician completed the checkup and walked towards the center of the room, a heavy silence hanging in the air. "She is Esme, right?" Mr. Vallahe’s voice rang out, filled with a mixture of hope and desperation.

Everyone seemed to hold their breath, waiting for the physician’s response. The tension was palpable, each second feeling like an eternity.

The physician took a deep breath before speaking, "She..." A pause, the room growing even quieter, if that was possible. "She isn’t," she finally said, her voice clear and firm.

A collective gasp swept through the room as the truth hit everyone like a wave. "Miss Rose and Miss Esme’s DNA doesn’t match at all. They are completely different."

As soon as the physician’s words fell, Mr. Vallahe’s face crumbled, his expression one of complete devastation. He couldn’t believe what he had just heard, the truth too unbearable to accept. Yet, on the other hand, Kai stood by, watching him with a cold, disdainful gaze, his arms crossed as if the revelation had confirmed something he already suspected.

"No... no... no, it can’t be! She is Esme, I know it!" Mr. Vallahe’s voice grew frantic as he rushed towards Esme, desperation seeping into every word. He grabbed her shoulders tightly, shaking her as if the force alone could change the reality they were facing. "Tell me! Tell me, what did you do?" His voice broke as he murmured in disbelief, "How can that be possible..."

But then, as if a dark thought crept into his mind, his gaze snapped back to the physician, wild and accusatory.

"Yes, yes! You must have brought the wrong results!" His hope rekindled, if only briefly, before he turned back to Esme, his grip tightening painfully on her shoulders.

"Right? Answer me!" His voice was desperate, almost pleading, as his fingers dug into her clothes, his nails biting through the fabric in a frantic attempt to hold onto the truth he wanted to believe.

"Enough!" Kai, who had been watching in silence for too long, suddenly shouted, his voice cutting through the chaos like a blade. He stepped forward and grabbed Mr. Vallahe’s hands, forcefully swinging him aside.

The sudden push caused Mr. Vallahe to lose his balance, and he stumbled before crashing onto the floor, his desperation now mixed with a sense of shock.

"If you want to act crazy, then do it in your own house," Kai said in a stern, unyielding tone, his eyes cold as they bore into Mr. Vallahe.

"Don’t bring your madness into the public." His words were sharp, each one carrying the weight of his disdain as he looked down at the man crumpled on the ground.

Kai’s hand brushed against Esme’s clothes where Mr. Vallahe had grabbed her earlier, as if trying to erase the memory of his touch, his expression dark with restrained anger.
