Chapter 24: [Volume 1] Chapter 24-Crazy old man.
Her face flushed as she clutched her hands tightly together, trying to maintain her composure under the scrutinizing stares.
But Mr. Vallahe, who could not bear the humiliation any longer, forced himself to speak up.
His voice quivered slightly, a mix of desperation and anger coloring his words. "This woman is lying!" he declared, his tone unsteady yet defiant.
"She is Esme! I don’t believe this nonsense!" His words were loud, but there was a falter in his voice that betrayed his uncertainty, a slight stagger as if even he was struggling to convince himself.
The room remained eerily silent, the echoes of his outburst lingering in the air. The guests exchanged glances, their suspicion deepening.
Even those who might have wanted to believe him found it difficult to ignore the clear evidence Kai had presented, along with the undeniable presence of Rose standing before them.
Kai let out a heavy sigh, rubbing his forehead in irritation. He couldn’t believe how stubborn these people were. The Vallahe family’s refusal to accept the truth was exhausting. Deciding it was time to take a more direct approach, he didn’t waste any more words on them. Instead, he walked up to the stage, snatched the microphone from the host, and spoke into it, his voice commanding the attention of everyone present.
"Hello everyone," Kai began, his tone steady and clear. "As you all know, I am the second son of the Aron family and the top lawyer in the country. Today, I have an important announcement to make." He paused for a moment, glancing at Esme, who was watching him with an amused expression, clearly enjoying the spectacle.
"This is my wife, Rose Reinguard," he continued, his voice carrying a note of pride. "Actually, she is the wife of all three Aron brothers and the new president of Aron Group."
As soon as his words fell, the hall erupted into a flurry of whispers and gasps. The revelation was shocking. Being married to an Aron brother was a big deal on its own, but married to all three of them? It was insane.
The guests exchanged stunned glances, looking from Esme to Kai, both of whom were smiling calmly as if this bombshell was nothing out of the ordinary.
The mention of the Aron brothers’ name alone was enough to send shivers down anyone’s spine. The first thought that came to mind was "monsters."
Yes, monsters—these brothers who possessed angelic faces yet carried personalities so fearsome that they were often described as devils in disguise. To hear that Esme, or rather Rose, was their wife and the new leader of their empire left everyone in the room reeling with disbelief.
The atmosphere in the hall grew tense as the realization settled in. If the Vallahe family’s claim was true and this woman truly was Esme Vallahe, now married to the Aron brothers, it meant that the four demons of the business world were united.
A cold wave of fear rushed through the crowd as they considered the implications. They weren’t sure what to believe, but one thing was certain: a new storm was brewing in the business world, one that could potentially reshape the landscape entirely.
The room was abuzz with whispered speculation until one brave reporter broke the tension, her voice trembling slightly as she addressed Kai. "But Mr. Aron, just now Mr. Vallahe claimed that she is his daughter, Esme Vallahe. Also, today is Miss Dianna Vallahe’s engagement ceremony, and your wife, Miss Rose, appeared here looking exactly like Esme. Can you explain, please? How is it just a coincidence?"
Her question hung in the air, drawing the attention of everyone present. Eyes that had been darting nervously around the room now focused intently on Kai, eager to hear his response. The reporter had voiced the question that had been on everyone’s mind, and now they waited, holding their breath, for the answer that could unravel this tangled web of truth and deception.
Esme’s gaze locked onto Jennie, her former classmate, who had been a persistent thorn in her side during their school years. Jennie had always been determined to undermine Esme’s efforts, and now, standing before her as a journalist, she seemed to be stirring up trouble once again. Esme’s eyes narrowed slightly, but she maintained her composed demeanor.
Kai, sensing the tension, turned his attention to Jennie with a smile that was more a mask than a gesture of goodwill. "Oh, that’s a great question," he said, though his smile didn’t reach his eyes. "Jennie, isn’t it? If I remember correctly, you must be educated to be a journalist. Correct?"
Jennie’s face flushed with a mix of embarrassment and anger. "What do you mean by that, Mr. Aron?"
Kai’s smile widened, though it remained cold. "Well, considering that you’re questioning my wife’s identity despite the proof I’ve already provided, it seems we’re dealing with a fundamental issue here. How do you prove your identity, Jennie? Anyone?"
The hall fell into a tense silence as everyone awaited her response. Jennie, her cheeks still flushed, shifted uneasily. Kai’s gaze swept across the room, locking onto the faces of the crowd.
"Identity proof, right?" Kai pressed, his voice ringing with a challenge. "Isn’t that what we’re all talking about? Proof of identity. I’ve shown the necessary documents, but still, the question persists. So, tell me, if identity proof is the key to verifying someone’s identity, why are we still questioning it?"
He let his words linger, his tone making it clear that he was not just answering Jennie’s question but addressing everyone in the room. His gaze was unwavering, confident, and unyielding.
The crowd murmured among themselves, the realization dawning on them that Kai’s point was valid. The documentation had been presented, and the persistent doubts seemed less about verification and more about creating confusion.
Jennie’s frustration was evident, but she remained silent, unable to counter Kai’s argument without further undermining her credibility.
Kai’s eyes flicked back to Jennie, a hint of triumph in his expression. "So, unless anyone else has additional proof or questions"
The room, now buzzing with the realization of Kai’s words, shifted its focus back to the unfolding events, the tension easing as the crowd adjusted to the new understanding of the situation.
