The Handsome CEO Is My Husband -
Chapter 90
Chapter 90: Chapter 90
"Wait, wait, wait," Benjamin desperately called out to Liam. "I’ll show you how serious I am but you need to promise to help me. If you don’t, you’ll just be caught up in his plans and it won’t be you he attacks to get you to listen. She might be a Sterling but Veronica isn’t liked by the family."
"Put on a good show first and then I will decide if I am going to help you. I won’t promise you that I will help you. I don’t trust you and you know I shouldn’t trust you. I know over the years you have been scheming to mess up some of my business plans. You have a jealousy I don’t like," said Liam.
Benjamin smiled like he hadn’t been caught. "How can’t I be jealous of you? You do nothing yet everyone loves you. I was just having a bit of fun with you. Right now I am the only relative who doesn’t want to bother you other than to get your help so we should remain close. Julia likes your wife, you know."
Liam wasn’t in the mood to entertain Benjamin any longer. "I suggest that you call a car and don’t drive. As much as I would like you to drive off a cliff, I don’t want you to hurt someone innocent so call for a driver to get home."
"You’ve got plenty of cars in there and you know where I live. Why don’t we finish this talk in a car ride? You’re scary-looking when you don’t smile but I think you’re just a big softie. You used to like me a lot when you were younger. You need me and my friends, Liam. How much longer are you going to continue doing everything the legal way?" Benjamin asked.
Benjamin didn’t see why Liam didn’t stoop as low as everyone else. Liam wasn’t going to last long avoiding Vance if he didn’t do something dirty to get Vance off his back.
’This family already has enough crooks and murderers in it. It doesn’t need one more. Call for a car and get away from my home. Don’t make a scene like this again. At least not for my name to be attached to it. We’re done here,’ Liam said, turning around once more to head inside.
"I know that you love me deep down, Liam. I’m the only sane one in the family and you know it. Look forward to being entertained soon!" Benjamin yelled as Liam walked away.
Benjamin didn’t trust that Liam would help him but at the very least he had made his offer to Liam. He didn’t have long to be in his father’s good graces since it might be considered that Adeline would replace him. She was too valuable to lose so it made sense to give her what she wanted.
Benjamin’s smile fell when Liam became so far away that he wouldn’t see his face. It upset him to have to come to beg Liam like this. It wasn’t any different than begging Adeline.
"He knows where she is," Benjamin muttered.
Adeline wasn’t going to leave without telling Liam.
Benjamin just needed to speak to her for a moment to get her back right where she belonged.
Instead of calling for a car to pick him up, Benjamin returned to his car to get in the driver’s seat. He felt fine and since he got here in one piece, he could make it to his next destination. He wasn’t stupid to be reckless and do something to have his father decide to cut ties with him.
Liam stood by his front door not surprised to see that Benjamin decided to drive. Benjamin was too confident he could get home without hurting anyone when he couldn’t walk to the gates straight.
Though he wasn’t a fan of his mother at the moment Liam didn’t understand why Vance picked Benjamin over his mother. It didn’t make any sense to go this route. For a man who liked to win, Vance bet foolishly by using Benjamin.
Liam couldn’t bother to go after Benjamin. Instead, he had a call to make to protect anyone out on the road with his uncle.
"Is he gone?" Edna questioned the moment Liam came inside.
"He is. I will call a car for you now and have them take you in the other direction so you don’t get near him. I have a feeling my uncle is going to end up spending the night on this street. Are you alright?" Liam asked, noticing her worry. "Is my mother bothering you?"
"Your mother? Why would your mother bother me?" Edna replied.
"It’s easy to know my whereabouts by reaching out to the woman who works in my home. I know she reached out to you. I have to keep a close eye on my staff. If she didn’t reach out to you, how did Veronica end up wearing the same colour dress as a woman my mother likes? Who else would she plan it with? Jerome?" Liam questioned, unable to see Jerome getting involved in picking dresses.
"Well, I," Edna stopped, not knowing how to explain her actions.
"Don’t lie to me because then I will think about firing you. I should have known sooner she reached out to you. She reached out to everyone before you so why would you be any different? Veronica likes you and I grew tired of changing around who works in my home so don’t worry about your job. Where is the phone?" Liam asked, walking by Edna to search for it.
Edna was surprised to hear that Liam knew all along that she was speaking to his mother. It started one day out of the blue with Adeline asking how Liam was doing or if he was tiring himself out with work. Adeline sounded like a mother desperate to know about her child so Edna gave her short answers.
Edna followed Liam to clear up the misunderstanding. She wasn’t a traitor. "She only asks if you have eaten or if you looked sick one day, she would say what medicine to get you. I wasn’t telling her anything about your marriage or whatever is private."
"Of course you weren’t or you would be fired. Still, I don’t like that you set Veronica up. You probably didn’t know but it still annoyed me. It’s just lucky for you that I like you more than I was annoyed," said Liam.
"That wasn’t the case. I was instructed to have you wear red because the family would be using that colour for the night. I helped Veronica pick out a red dress so she would fit in with your family. I didn’t know there was some other plot behind it," Edna said, regretting her actions.
Since she was only told to pick out a red tie for Liam, was she making him dress to match another woman?
"There’s always some other plot when it comes to my mother. You’ve been working for me a good amount of time for you to know that. Have you told her about Veronica’s memories?" Liam asked.
"No, no. Like I said, I never sent her anything about Veronica or about your marriage. I never got paid to tell her that you are okay. I shouldn’t have done it. I know you wouldn’t have liked it so I should be fired," Edna said, ready to accept all consequences.
"Picking out the red dress and tie was a stupid move on your part since it made Veronica suspicious so I looked into it. You two have been speaking for some months now. From now on, pass on what mother sends you to me. I will answer in place of you," said Liam.
Since his mother was going to reach out to everyone who did the housekeeping, he would make use of it to lie to her.
Edna was relieved that she still had her job but she knew it wasn’t going to stay the same since Liam brought this up. There was one thing she didn’t understand. "The charity event was days ago. How long did you know I was speaking to your mother?"
Why did he wait to bring it up now?
"The very next day," Liam replied. "It’s not that hard to get your phone records. I don’t like that you put me in a position where I have to tell Veronica that someone else close to her is betraying her. She likes you and I don’t want to ruin her opinion of you but I can’t lie to her."
"I understand. I will do anything to get you to trust me again. As soon as your mother reaches out, I will show you. She did send a message earlier asking if you got home safe. I know there is tension but-"
"When you start telling me about my mother, I will have to fire you. I don’t care how worried she sounds to you. I am your employer and you had no right to be sneaking around doing anything for her. Don’t you dare stand here and try to make me feel sorry for her. Your car is on the way. Good night, Edna," Liam said, ending their conversation here before he ended up firing her.
