The Handsome CEO Is My Husband -
Chapter 82
Chapter 82: Chapter 82
Liam took Veronica home first and then headed to his mother to hear what was urgent. She would keep reaching out to him about it so he had to take care of it fast not to be bothered later on.
Liam doubted what his mother had to say would be urgent. Everything was always urgent when it came to her and then it merely concerned either getting a divorce or going to his grandfather. Neither one was urgent to Liam. They were more of a headache.
Liam entered his parents’ home which became an unfamiliar place because of how little he visited. This wasn’t a childhood home he could come back to and have a lot of good memories coming to him.
Each time Liam visited he remembered the awkward dinners when relatives came by or how well-behaved his mother tried to make him be to please her father who was never happy no matter how well-behaved anyone was.
There were a few good memories when neither his father nor mother thought about him taking a position in either family business. They were like any other family but it didn’t last long with each having a future laid out for him.
"Liam! What a surprise. I didn’t think we would be seeing you today or ever. What do we owe the pleasure for this visit?" Nathan asked, setting his drink down.
Liam now noticed a lot of suitcases stacked up by the door. "Your wife said there was something urgent to speak about. Going somewhere?"
"Well," Nathan looked at all the luggage. "Your mother is a bit paranoid so I am taking her out of the city for a while. I’ll still be here every once in a while but she wants to get out right away. It is urgent so I am glad you came. What a shame you didn’t bring Veronica."
"What would I bring her for? For the two of you to insult her? Tell me to divorce her while she’s sitting right there? I would rather save her the drama and the headache. What are you running from? Pissed off someone?" Liam asked since it was unlike his mother to leave the city at a time like this.
"She’ll tell you but I’ll give you a little heads-up. Your mother isn’t on good terms with her father right now so she’s afraid he’ll come after her. She has my protection as my wife but she’s still afraid. I won’t lie, I’m a little close to losing my morals and bringing down your grandfather. I’m tired of him and your uncle," said Nathan.
Liam was surprised by the entire situation. He never thought there would be a day his mother woke up and left the Smiths. "I’ve been saying for years to stop helping them and now the time has come. Now she’s running like a dog with its tail between its legs. She knows everything they would want to keep a secret but she’s the brains behind their operations."
"Your mother is going to be safe regardless. No one is going to touch her but your uncle will be stupid to try something. He’ll crumble without her so it’s a good time to drop him. It’s good you never showed any public support to him. I shouldn’t have," Nathan said, having regrets.
"Hmm," Liam replied. "I had to deal with all of you telling me that I was turning my back on the family only for you to wake up now and realise that you shouldn’t hold on to the Smiths. You should be worried since you showed them support."
"I’m a Sterling so you have to find a way to get me out of this mess or it will affect you-"
"I plan to just cut you off and fully take over. You should have been listening to what I told you in the past," Liam said, not feeling sorry for his father.
Nathan couldn’t be angry with Liam. "You’re a little heartless to your father but on the business side, I like it. No wonder your grandfathers like you so much. Have you been visiting my father?"
’Not yet but when I do, I am going to tell him what a pain in the ass you are. Expect a call and an earful from him when I do. If there’s anyone who can talk some sense into you it’s him. You’re not afraid of him like mother is of Vance but you are afraid of him. Good luck," Liam patted his father’s back.
Nathan laughed. "If you weren’t my son I would hit you right now."
"I could say the same for you. Where is she? I have other things to do," Liam said, bored out of his mind already.
"Can’t you be a little nice and wait for a little? It’s not every day that we can get you home to speak to you. I do miss you even with how cranky you can be to me. Have a drink with me," Nathan suggested.
"For me to get drunk and you to do something to ruin my marriage? No, thank you. I just like drinking with my friends or my wife. I’m giving you two a good ten minutes and then I am out of here. I wouldn’t want to keep you back from running," said Liam.
"I am not running. I am taking your mother for a vacation she deserves. I can’t let Vance think he’s got control over my family. I should have done it long ago to keep you two safe but I was respecting your mother’s wishes. I will take care of him so don’t worry," Nathan said, having a plan in mind to deal with Vance.
To get to Vance all anyone needed to do was get Benjamin to screw up and luckily, Benjamin just couldn’t help screwing up.
"Have fun," Liam said, hoping his father succeeded so he wouldn’t need to go after Vance.
"You know, it’s not unlikely that your grandfather had something to do with Veronica. Have you been paying attention to the news? The people who turned their back on him have been dropping like flies or their wives. I have to send flowers for the car accident. She went too soon."
"If you thought this, why didn’t you bring it up before? You’re going to start telling me about everything he did now that you want me to help you? He was one of my suspects so I don’t need you telling me this now to get me riled up. You’re always too late to help and too late to be a father. I hope I am nothing like you in the future," Liam said as it would be disappointing.
