The Handsome CEO Is My Husband -
Chapter 139
Chapter 139: Chapter 139
"My wife? She has some nerve," Henry said, his anger with Evelyn reaching its limit.
She wouldn’t come to show her face and explain why she just left? If Evelyn wanted to leave him, she needed to come to face Henry.
"There’s nothing for her to get from here so leave," Henry replied, starting to close the door but a single foot stopped him. "Either move your foot or I break it with this door. Then you won’t be able to provide for your pathetic life."
Henry was puzzled when the worker smiled and placed his hand on the door to push it back open. "Do you know who you’re messing with? What company is this? I will have it done by the end of the day."
Dean wanted to see Henry do it. How was a man about to lose everything going to shut anyone down?
Dean pushed the door open and stepped in to see the inside. He could never get a good look at where Evelyn had taken their daughter.
It was spacious but had they made certain that there was a place for Veronica here?
Henry sensed danger so he tried to walk out of the front door to find help but his path was blocked and a strong arm nudged him back inside. "Who the hell are you? If my wife paid you to hurt me then I can double whatever she paid you to bring her to me. There are cameras all over the building so you won’t get away with this."
"There are far too many cameras," Dean agreed. "Getting up here was going to be a hassle but Evelyn helped me get her things. It’s good that I am leaving today anyway but those cameras won’t matter since you won’t go running to anyone, right?"
"I would like a little tour," Dean said, wanting to see what was Veronica’s room.
Henry thought the stranger was mad but he had to play this safe for him to get out of here. "I can double what my wife offered you."
"You already said that and I already ignored you. She didn’t pay me to come here. I came by myself since I had something to settle with you. I’ve been a bit hard on her and then I realised I should be a little hard on you too. How did you treat Veronica when she was here?" Dean asked and then sat on one of the couches.
Henry didn’t like seeing this man make himself so comfortable. Why did he have to deal with this mess now? "Veronica? If you want to know that, why don’t you ask my wife? Or better yet, call her my ex-wife. That was her daughter, not mine."
"You married a woman with a child. Didn’t you consider that you would have to play some sort of father role?" Dean asked, his mind already made up about the kind of man Henry was.
Henry was tired of hearing this. "When I met Evelyn there wasn’t any talk about her having a daughter. I get ready to move her in and here comes this daughter. I didn’t sign up for that. Giving her a place in my home and not sending her mother away was already kind on my part."
Henry wondered if Evelyn was all of a sudden going around saying he didn’t treat her or Veronica well. Why was she suddenly acting out of character?
Henry knew that he wasn’t giving her a lot of his attention as of late because of Beth but he still loved her. He had to come home to his wife not around to greet him. First, Henry was concerned about Evelyn not being around but as time went on and there wasn’t a call, he realised that she left him.
"You could have sent them away if you weren’t ready to take care of another man’s child. I hope you didn’t treat Veronica badly just because you didn’t like the extra baggage-"
"That has nothing to do with you," Henry interjected. He didn’t care what stories Evelyn filled his head with. Veronica should be glad that he didn’t ship her off overseas to a school.
"You should have made the argument that you took care of her. Whatever concerns Veronica should concern her father," Dean revealed his identity. "I haven’t made up my mind what I want to do with you but for starters, sign those papers there. You’ll be happy to know that Evelyn doesn’t need anything from you other than her belongings here."
Henry didn’t pay attention to the divorce papers being handed to him by the man beside him. He was focused on the tiny bit of information that this was Veronica’s father.
Where did Veronica’s father suddenly pop up from? Where was he for all these years when Henry had to provide for Veronica?
"You’ve been telling my daughter that she owes you, right? How much was it that you thought you were entitled to? I will pay it," Dean offered, sliding a chequebook out of his jacket. "You name it."
Henry wasn’t thrilled about getting a payment from this man. He didn’t send much money for Veronica over the years so what could he pay now?
Henry did a quick look over the man claiming to be Veronica’s father. He clearly remembered Evelyn telling him that her last husband had been nothing more than a small restaurant owner. What could a man who sent a few thousand a month offer him now?
"Did you dress up and hire these men to intimidate me? You shouldn’t have wasted money but I’ll humour you. I need twenty grand," Henry said, smiling since the cheque couldn’t be written.
"Just twenty? It’s my lucky day," Dean said, writing down the figure. "I thought it would be in the millions. Here," he held out the cheque for Henry. "But wait. It gets a little messy if you know my account. Get twenty grand for him," he ordered his men.
Henry thought the joke was going too far until he saw stacks of money coming out of one of the boxes. "W-Wait," he turned back to Dean. "You were serious?"
"I’m always serious when it comes to my daughter. Now that what you think is owed has been paid off then you shouldn’t go bothering her anymore. Leave her alone and use that money wisely. Now that we’ve settled your end, point me to where I can get Evelyn’s things," said Dean.
Henry saw that there was a lot more money left after the twenty grand had been taken out. "It was more than twenty grand. That won’t even cover more than three years. I need five hundred thousand."
Dean laughed at the new request being made. ’The deal is already done. You should have said so from the beginning."
