The Handsome CEO Is My Husband -
Chapter 137
Chapter 137: Chapter 137
Benjamin bit his nails as he watched more reports pour in about him. It couldn’t be a coincidence that his father went down and before he got the chance to shine this was coming out. He was stabbed in the back before he could get rid of Kevin.
Benjamin had his day planned. He knew which one of his father’s friends he was going with first to get them to support him then he wanted to make a public appearance. His plans were ruined before they started. If he showed his face, he was going to be questioned about the videos.
"Who recorded me?" Benjamin tried to think.
He had been surrounded by his friends and other people he made sign that they wouldn’t talk about whatever they saw. He had the right to go after them since they broke the contract.
Benjamin didn’t know who to blame for this getting out. What he needed was for Adeline to come and do what she always did.
Save him.
Benjamin looked at his cellphone which he had been using for the last hour to reach Adeline but like the new normal, Adeline wasn’t answering his calls. "Where the hell is she?" He yelled, throwing the very phone he needed at a wall, damaging it.
"Well, that was stupid," Adeline said, starting to regret that she came back.
Benjamin looked to his right, surprised by his sister’s arrival.
"Don’t look so surprised. I’m the one who planned that this is where you should hide when you get yourself in trouble. You’ve made a big mess this time," Adeline said, setting her bag down as she entered the room. "What made you think it was a good idea to drink when there are reports about your problem?"
Benjamin stood up from the bed and made his way over to Adeline to grab her arms. "Where the hell have you been?"
"On vacation like I said I would be. I told both of you that I stopped being your little helper. You crashed faster than I knew you would. I am stuck between laughing and pitying you. Nathan is outside so you should let go of me," said Adeline.
"This wouldn’t have happened if you were where you are supposed to be-"
"No," Adeline stopped Benjamin in his tracks. This wasn’t her fault. "None of this would have happened if you didn’t have an addiction. I said over and over again that you needed help or to do the smart thing which was to put me in charge but he didn’t like that."
"Did you have something to do with this?" Benjamin asked. It would make sense how Kevin found him. "You did this."
"Oh please. If I wanted to ruin your public image, I would have released everything I gathered over the years. I already told you. I cleaned up your mess and kept a little insurance. I would have the police here if it was me. I spoke to mother. Our father didn’t come home from the party you went to. Where is he?" Adeline asked, finding it strange their father was nowhere to be found.
With the Smith name starting to mean nothing their father should be at the front to clean this up. It couldn’t be that he was hiding. The answer to fix all of this would be to throw Benjamin to the public and have him face the consequences then come back years later to run again.
Adeline didn’t like Benjamin’s silence. "I am only going to ask one more time. Where is our father? I know you went to a party with him. He hasn’t shown up so our mother is close to calling the police. The only problem is you caused trouble for the family."
"I don’t know where he is. I’ve got my problems to deal with to be concerned about someone else. Do whatever you need to get me out of this then go after everyone who reported on this. Why are you just standing there?" Benjamin asked, puzzled by her not moving.
"Because I am trying to understand why you think I would help you. I am not going to attach myself to you to be dragged down with you. When I said I was done with you, I meant it. I just came to get a good look at how you are and I am satisfied," Adeline smiled.
She warned her father this was going to happen and it did. If this family started to listen to her more then they would be in a better place.
"I only want to know where our father is," said Adeline. She had a feeling that Benjamin knew but didn’t want to share.
"I already said that I don’t know. For all we know, he knew this was going to come out and ran."
"We both know that if he received a tip that was going to come out, he would have stopped it or sacrificed you to save himself. That isn’t like him. I know you did something stupid like you always do and it’s going to come out. I swear if you hurt him," Adeline said, having some doubt Benjamin had the courage since he feared their father but it was still possible.
"It wasn’t me. All of this is because of a man named Kevin. He blocked us off after the party and told me to leave while he spoke to our father. What was I supposed to do? This has to be his doing too. I should have gotten to him first," Benjamin rambled.
"What do you mean he wanted to speak to father? What happened?" Adeline yelled, angry that Benjamin was only speaking about this now. "Where did you leave him?"
"On some road when we were on our way back home. I had to think about myself right there," Benjamin replied.
Adeline palmed her face. "You idiot. You should have gone to the police about this. He didn’t come home so what do you think happened? Who is this Kevin man? What is his last name? His work?"
Benjamin couldn’t think of a last name. "What does it matter now? He’s probably dead but I am going to find Kevin and have him regret coming after us. Wait! Where are you going?"
"I am going home to be far away from you and this family. I am not going to get myself tied into what happened last night. Figure out how you’ll get out of this yourself before the Smiths cut you off," Adeline advised Benjamin.
Benjamin didn’t see how she could just leave him like this. "You can’t just leave. This will affect you too. You’re a Smith."
Adeline picked up her bag, ready to go. "No. For a long time, I have been a Sterling. Good luck getting out of this. You’ll need it."
