Chapter 132: Chapter 132

Vance still didn’t lower his gun since Dean could be bluffing. "I’m not dying here tonight. If you don’t leave now, you will have more people than you can handle after you and your daughter."

Dean looked at their reflection in the car window. "They’ll be after me when they don’t know who killed you? When I kill you, do you think your son will try to avenge you? Tell everyone who killed you? He wanted you dead."

"I am not counting on him to kill you if something happens to me. I have people who will hunt you down and kill you. Walk away now while you can,’ Vance advised Dean.

Still, Vance was concerned about how outnumbered he was. Even if he killed Dean, he had to worry about the men around him and he couldn’t count on Benjamin since his son wanted him dead.

Vance thought about the right moment to pull Dean close and use him as a shield but he started to believe that Dean would give the order for both of them to be shot at. "I didn’t try to kill her but I can send you to the men who did. I can have them standing before you in a few hours."

Dean laughed at the offer Vance wanted to make now. "I want everyone involved dead. From the person who gave the order to the people who threw her off the side of the boat and left her to die."

Since his offer didn’t work, Vance grabbed Dean who easily let himself be captured and used as a shield.

"People talk about death lightly but they don’t mean it. You’re no different than them. Don’t do anything stupid or I’ll blow your brains out," Vance warned Dean. He had too much left to achieve to die right here.

Dean was smiling throughout the interaction. It had been some time since someone tried to use him like this to save themselves.

Benjamin got out of the car confused by why his father wasn’t dead yet. Why was Dean worried about the gun after what he did?

"That gun is empty. I already removed the bullets,’ Benjamin informed Dean. "Were you not paying any attention to the messages I sent you about my plans?"

Benjamin had ridden around with his father many times to know that there was a gun in the car to be used if they were in danger. Seeing that he had to ride around with a man who was going to find out that his son stabbed him in the back, the first thing Benjamin thought about was the gun.

Vance wouldn’t hesitate to shoot him when the truth came out so Benjamin protected himself.

Dean continued to smile since he knew of this. "I saw your message but why did I need to respond?"

Vance tested what Benjamin said by pulling the trigger. His plan to use Dean as a shield was out the window because the gun didn’t go off, sending a bullet through Dean’s head.

Still, Vance kept his hold on Dean. He didn’t have a gun but he could still defend himself with a fistfight. Vance looked at Benjamin. His son was enjoying this a little too much.

"Turns out that I am smarter than you think, father. For me to change around how many guards we had travelling with us and to get the bullets out of that gun without you noticing. You should applaud me for that. See, I thought ahead about my safety," Benjamin revealed.

Either that gun or his father having too many bodyguards was going to be Benjamin’s downfall had this plan backfired. When Benjamin thought about death, his mind seemed to work better to plan what he needed to do to ensure he lived.

"The driver and the accident were a surprise to me. Did you kill someone just to get us to come this way?" Benjamin asked, worried about the length this man went to. It wasn’t going to be an easy task to kill Kevin when this was all done.

"Just a few minor injuries," Dean replied. It helped that it was the people involved in the accident that blocked up the road.

Benjamin laughed, amazed by how well the plan went. "And here I was worried about the plan when I didn’t see you when we left. I would like to know what you did to piss off someone like this, father."

Vance didn’t understand the relationship Benjamin had with this man. How didn’t Benjamin know this was Veronica’s father? "You just joined hands with anyone who wanted to-"

"Enough," Dean said, hitting Vance in his side with his elbow.

Vance loosened his hold on Dean for a moment as he hunched over but quickly recollected himself and reached for Dean but he already stepped away.

"I don’t have time to listen to you two question each other. Shoot him," Dean gave an order.

Benjamin screamed and ducked for cover when he heard a shot go off. His father was the only one to groan and hold his leg. "Why didn’t you kill him?" Benjamin yelled, angry that it was just Vance’s leg that was shot. "With all the noise that you made, we don’t have long before someone shows up. When he doesn’t make it home, my mother will have the police looking around for him."

Time was of the essence here so Benjamin wanted to see his father drop dead now instead of playing around.

"If you stall too much then he is going to find a way to get out of this. Kill him now," Benjamin said, needing this over with now. "His phone," he muttered.

Dean had that urge to take out his gun and shoot Benjamin. Vance wasn’t thinking about his phone until Benjamin bought it up. "Now he’s on the run with his phone. Great," he muttered, annoyed with both father and son.

Benjamin quickly got to his feet upon seeing his father run and his phone out. The wound to his father’s leg wasn’t much of a concern anymore since he could push through it to run. "If he calls anyone and says my name then I am done for."

"Right," Dean said, taking out a gun he kept concealed to be the one to shoot Vance in the back.

Benjamin didn’t hear what was said about Dean being Veronica’s father so Dean knew Benjamin didn’t understand how serious this was for him.

Dean was satisfied for now seeing how Vance reacted when he was hit in the back. He wanted to fire more shots to end Vance here but he needed him alive. "Grab him. We got to get moving," he informed his men.
