The Handsome CEO Is My Husband -
Chapter 118
Chapter 118: Chapter 118
"Are you sure we can trust him to do this alone? Your grandfather isn’t someone easy to go up against," said Jerome.
"He seems confident that he can do it. He was able to hide everything about him from me and my grandfather so he has some kind of power. Put a stop to looking into him. It’s useless right now," Liam said since they had failed time after time. "Keep an eye on Vance and Benjamin. The second it looks like her father is failing, we have to swoop in to help him."
"He doesn’t seem to be a bad person but he does have the look of someone you shouldn’t get involved with. It sounded like he has Evelyn," Jerome remembered, curious as to how that happened. "I wasn’t informed about any suspicious movement with her."
Liam placed his hands in his pockets. "He seems to know his way around where others can see him. He wants my hand to be clean?"
Liam could see why Dean would want Veronica to not have two men who did horrible things in her life. It would be easy for Liam to offer Dean information about Vance’s whereabouts but to keep Veronica away from this world he was willing to do this the hard way.
Jerome opened Liam’s car door for him. "If he gets rid of Evelyn then that’s one less person to be worried about. It doesn’t surprise me that Evelyn kept money that was meant for Veronica. That woman can’t surprise me anymore. It is only Henry now who will bother you. Beth will be too ashamed to look your way."
Liam got into the car and closed the door after he was seated.
Jerome took his seat at the front with the driver.
"Take me to the art gallery," said Liam.
Liam contemplated telling Veronica about her father. He wanted her to have her answers but at the same time, he had to think about her safety first.
Liam didn’t want to have to keep a secret from Veronica for it to later be revealed and affect their relationship. If he did tell her, all he wanted was that she put an end to finding her father for her safety.
At the very least, they knew that her father cared enough to come to the city to find who hurt her and hearing about the money, Liam was certain that Veronica was secretly getting help throughout the years.
"Your uncle is trying to reach out to you again," Jerome informed Liam.
"Ignore him. He’s utterly useless," Liam replied, having no time for Benjamin.
Benjamin had his window of opportunity to prove himself that he would go after Vance but like always, he wanted someone else to have a plan he could follow.
Liam rubbed his temple. "I cannot listen to whatever Benjamin has to say. Tell Edna that if there is anyone suspicious lurking outside then to call the police. I need to check with my father."
Liam wasn’t in a good place with his father but they could both agree that Adeline needed to cut her family loose. If Adeline didn’t have any part in what happened to Veronica then this was the best time for her to stay away from Vance.
From what he saw when he visited his parents, they seemed to be on the path to divorce with his mother not realising how serious it was getting.
Liam sent a message asking about his mother’s behaviour and then set the phone aside. He looked out the window. Many people got to slow down and enjoy the day while others were in a rush to get somewhere.
There weren’t too many days that he and Veronica had the chance to fully enjoy their time out without someone coming to bother them.
"What are you going to do to keep her out of sight? Should I book you a reservation at a hotel where there are too many people for him to hurt her? Or book you another home to use out of the city for the time being?" Jerome asked.
Jerome wanted to act fast to put Veronica somewhere safe. The art gallery was busy but there were blind spots for Veronica to easily be taken.
"She liked the beach so I want to take her back there for a few days. You were telling me about a community with beach houses where you can’t get in without living there. Find us a home there," said Liam.
It wouldn’t be too far away from their home so Liam could arrive just in time if Dean’s plans were failing and they were close for Dean to keep an eye on Veronica.
Liam closed his eyes and tried to clear his mind. The danger in their lives was far from over. He couldn’t relax until he heard news about his grandfather’s death somewhere.
Less than thirty minutes later, Liam arrived at the art gallery. He looked around for any signs of danger but didn’t find anything suspicious.
There had been more questions he wanted to ask Dean, like if he had people watching over Veronica every day, about the apartment she had, the scholarships that dropped into her hands out of nowhere, and more.
Liam knew that had he brought any of them up he would not have gotten answers. Veronica’s father was stuck on thinking the less they knew about him and whatever he did, whether it be good or bad, the better.
Liam entered the gallery and started to search for his busy wife. Now that she was back to being herself, he might not see her as often as he wanted since she had a lot to catch up on.
"Liam!" Veronica called Liaim. "You’re early. Or have I not been keeping track of the time?" Veronica wondered and then checked the time on her watch. "No, you are early. Did something happen? We can speak over here," she said, holding his hand to take him to a quiet corner. "What did Vance say?"
"What I expected him to say. I didn’t get too far into a conversation with him once he started to mention you. I could tell that he was gloating over knowing what he did and getting away with it. He’s going to come after you again so we need to be careful. Stay at home for a while and then I will book a beach house for us to use," Liam shared.
"Okay," Veronica agreed to play it safe. "Did he openly tell you he was coming for me now? Your visit here scares me."
’It’s not that. I got a response from the car that you kept seeing and it turns out that it was your father," Liam said, deciding to take the road of not having any secrets.
