Chapter 117: Chapter 117

Before an hour, Liam arrived at the meeting spot early to get a good look around.

"Are you sure about this?" Jerome asked, carefully inspecting the area with Liam. "If this is her father, what happened to you thinking her father is some kind of dangerous man?’

"We need dangerous people that aren’t loyal to my grandfather. I can’t do this alone and I don’t have time to wait for anyone to decide to take down Vance. He said enough to let me know he was going to come after her again. I need to move fast even if this might be dangerous," Liam replied.

There had to be some risk to go forward with his plans.

"I didn’t like how he brought up Veronica either. It felt like he was close to coming out and saying that he tried to kill her at the end. It sounded like that’s what he planned to do when he told you to get rid of her before he did. Should we pick her up from the art gallery after this?" Jerome asked, having a feeling they should go to her.

"I’ve already told Veronica not to leave the art gallery before I arrive. After today, I might send her out of the city. It depends on how this talk goes. A car is coming," Liam said, focused on the same black car arriving.

It stopped at a good distance away from Liam’s car with the driver getting out first to open the passenger door. A man Liam had never seen before in all his years of living in the city stepped out. He tried to find some resemblance to Veronica and noticed that their eyes were similar. It would take Veronica standing next to him to check for more resemblance.

"You’re her father, right?" Liam asked, getting straight to the point.

Dean fixed his suit by buttoning up all the open buttons. "I am. Do we look similar? I like that we do even though it isn’t something good. You’ve been poking around my business for some time now. Don’t you listen to warnings?"

"I prefer to pay attention to a car that’s stalking my wife. Why didn’t you just approach her if there was something you had to say or find out? She’s the one who noticed the car. Is it because you’re too dangerous to get close to her? I don’t mind if you stayed away for her good," said Liam.

Liam still thought it was good that Veronica’s father didn’t bring his problems to her.

"I can’t tell you everything and I can’t see her. I wasn’t stalking her but I was following someone else. I might have got a little too excited when I saw her and sped off before I could think about getting out of the car to go to her. I am a dangerous man," Dean confessed. "And I don’t deserve to act like her father."

"Still, I hope you’re treating my daughter right. Just because I’m crap as a father doesn’t mean I will turn a blind eye to how you treat her. So far it looks like your family trouble is the reason she almost died. Speak to me honestly," Dean said, testing what kind of man Liam was.

Dean already did his search on Liam long ago and found that he was clean, unlike the others around him. He knew not to trust all the information that he found because some people were better at hiding their hands.

"I treat your daughter well. If you knew Veronica then you would know that she would have divorced me the second I didn’t treat her well. She’s not afraid to tell me how she feels and I don’t plan on treating her badly. After everything I heard when she was living with her mother, I want her to have a good life with me," Liam replied.

Dean accepted the answer for now. "So you know as well what happened when she was with her mother. I was only able to find bits and pieces but I know it must have been bad. I sent her mother enough money for Veronica to not need anyone to help her. She would be fine without you."

"The last person I would put money for Veronica in the hands of is her mother. For as long as I have made my relationship with Veronica public, her mother has come to beg for money to help Henry with his business ideas. She’ll give that money to Beth before she gives it to Veronica," Liam said, his dislike of Evelyn growing.

"Is that so? Then I have all the more reason to keep her with me for a little bit longer. They’re not going to be honest about what they did to her so I’ll need to take your word for it. Tell me, who do you think tried to kill her?" Dean asked and then waited to see if Liam would be honest.

"It’s my grandfather, Vance Smith. That’s where I just came from and I have a feeling you knew that. He’s going to go after her again. He knows that Veronica lost her memories but he isn’t going to leave her alone for there to be a chance she remembers something. What he doesn’t know is that she already remembers," Liam revealed.

Dean heard of a few whispers about memory loss which all ended back at the Harpers as the ones who put it out. "Go be with my daughter and stay away from your grandfather for the time being."

"My grandfather has good connections all over the city. Most of it is from blackmail to keep them close to him. He’s not going to be easy for you to take down alone," Liam said, wanting to help.

Dean smiled. "Her father is already messed up. You’re not the most normal man but I want her to have a husband who doesn’t get involved in what I plan to do. Just stay by her side now and keep her safe. I can do this by myself."

Dean wasn’t concerned about the allies Vance had. He had come across men like Vance in all his years of doing this kind of work. There was always a way to bring them down but you needed to be willing to use methods that were dangerous and could pull you down with the person you were after.

"I’ll stay in contact with you but don’t tell Veronica about me. When this is all done and over, I am going back to my life and leaving her alone," Dean informed Liam.

Dean got back into his car. Their conversations in person needed to be short so he wouldn’t be seen with Liam. His gun was now aimed at Vance who wouldn’t receive the kindness he showed to Evelyn.
