The Handsome CEO Is My Husband -
Chapter 115
Chapter 115: Chapter 115
"You look afraid."
Jerome was afraid. "It’s never a good day when we have to visit your grandfather. He always tries to pull you in and tries to pull me in with you. If your uncle is close by then he’s going to be in trouble. He didn’t do anything you informed me of."
"I didn’t have high expectations of my uncle going against my grandfather. He’s just like my mother. They are both afraid of him and want to please him. He won’t mention coming to me because then he would have to expose wanting to turn on his father," Liam said, knowing Benjamin wouldn’t be so stupid.
"You seem to think your uncle has more sense than he does. We’re speaking about a man who gets involved in activities that could ruin his run. Just look at Beth and how her life changed overnight," said Jerome.
Jerome couldn’t have ever pictured Beth’s downfall to be like this.
"Last night was entertaining," Liam said, still enjoying Beth’s predicament. "Keep me updated on that. I want to know every move that Henry makes to try to get her out of this. This was an unexpected blessing for them to be dealt with without me needing to go after them."
Beth was out of the way so at the moment his only focus was on his family.
"What about her mother? Do you want me to keep watching Evelyn?" Jerome asked, not wanting to miss any threats.
"Evelyn is going to hide during this time. I wouldn’t be surprised if she left home already. She’s smart to know that anyone wanting to build on this story will try waiting for her to leave her apartment or her neighbours might gossip about what they see her do and leak news. You can give updates if you find anything but she’s going to disappear," said Liam.
"Or she might try to get in contact with your wife. For money now that Henry might be focused on helping Beth or for Veronica to help Beth. She’s approached your wife for more stupid things in the past so why would she stop now?" Jerome questioned.
"Right. That might be the first place she runs to but Veronica isn’t home. I need to keep an eye on her," Liam said, turning on his phone to look for any message from Veronica. "We need to do this fast and get out."
Liam looked out the window at his grandfather’s home. He couldn’t think of the last time he was here. The family used to be forced to come over every other week for a family dinner but Liam stopped long before Veronica was in his life. What was the point of coming here to act like they cared for each other?
When the car stopped Liam and Jerome both got out leaving the driver behind to inform Jerome of anyone arriving. Should Benjamin show up then Liam would leave before his uncle assumed the worst and did something stupid.
"He has a visitor?" Jerome wondered because of another parked car. "It looks familiar."
"It belongs to one of his lawyer friends. My uncle might have found himself in trouble," said Liam.
Liam rang the doorbell and waited. Unlike his mother and other relatives, he didn’t have a key and he still didn’t want one.
A middle-aged woman answered the door and welcomed them in.
Liam thought about his grandmother now. If she was home, he needed to speak to her. His issues with his grandfather hadn’t affected the relationship he had with his grandmother. She wasn’t the greatest grandmother since she backed all her husband’s plans but she wasn’t as bad as Vance.
"Liam!" Vance greeted Liam with open arms as he walked down the stairs. "This is an unexpected but welcomed visit."
Liam looked at the man walking behind Vance hurrying to get out like he didn’t have any business being here and didn’t want to be seen.
"I’ve been asking your mother to bring you here for years. Did she convince you or did you come here because you needed something from me? I always knew there would come a day that you end up here,’ Vance said, his day suddenly better.
"I don’t need anything from you and my mother didn’t get me here. I came to see why you are hellbent on bothering me so much. I’ve already given you my answer about joining your plans. I don’t have any interest in politics," Liam said for what might be the hundredth time.
"A lot of people start uninterested like you and then get deep into it after a certain time. I could help you go far if you would just accept to be in my plans. Look at your uncle and what he’s managed to achieve. Look at what the Smiths have done over the years,’ Vance said, holding out his hand to the wall decorated with awards.
"Your son is an idiot and you know it," Liam replied, unimpressed by anything involving Benjamin.
Vance laughed off the insult. "Your uncle indeed has his flaws but he did what every son and grandson should do. He listens to what he is told and tries to do his best. I can’t say the same for you. I regret not getting more involved in your mother raising you. I could have made you so much better."
"After seeing how your children turned out, I am glad that you didn’t get involved. You should spend time trying to fix your children instead of trying to get your hands on me. I’m never going to do whatever you want me to do so give up. Where is my grandmother?" Liam asked, wanting to see her now.
"She’s out with her sister but if she were here, she would tell you just how disappointed she is with you. You don’t come to family events, you don’t give us a call or at least visit your grandmother like the others did. She cries-"
"Save that crap for someone else it might work on. I’ve reached out to her but then all she wants to use that time to do is talk about you and your plans. No one from this side of the family knows how to talk about anything other than what you want. You’re the reason this family is so fucked up," Liam accused Vance.
"Language, Liam. You should still remember that I don’t allow for all kinds of language in my home. You have your mother’s fighting spirit in you. That’s why I can’t stop until you join my side. Now tell me, what brought you here?" Vance asked, knowing there was more to Liam’s visit.
