Chapter 88: 2.24.5 Decide.
Maisel watched as the curse entered his body., though it was closer to adding fuel to the fire as the fire on his body got stronger in intensity as they burned the curse that tried to take over Maisel’s body
Proving that it was not much different than what he experienced.
"Why did they do this?" Maisel wondered, confused and somewhat sad over the death of the child in front of him.
If he was a bit fast, if he melted the knife out of the child’s hand, if he came here before his son’s death.
’?"
Placing the body of Soros on the ground. Maisel got up after feeling that the curse was completely burned up, before calling out to the soldiers. "Send the curse wielders, don’t touch the bodies until they are here."
Maisel sounded melancholic. The memories of his past kept running in his mind, from his birth to his adulthood.
Then to all the people he killed under the order of his superiors, acting more like an assassin than anything else, while trying to console himself by claiming that all of his kills were those of traitors or people that would have harmed his country.
But in deep parts of his heart, he knew what he had done, the fact that he killed countless innocents was not alien to him. No, he was highly aware of such atrocities and maybe that’s why his son died.
His son paid for the crimes he did, and in the future, this fate might follow his daughter and then his wife.
And how many more? Maisel didn’t even know. All he knew was to leave here and wait for the cleanup.
And while he was having such thoughts, he heard a gunshot.
*bang.
It came out of nowhere as there were no enemies around him. And in case there were some extra enemies, he would detect them long before his soldiers did.
Though before he can ask the reason why his men fired a shot, a body dropped down from the roof and right in front of the pavement, bursting into blood and bones that splattered all over the area.
"??"
A sense of confusion that only remained for a microsecond, before Maisel shouted. "Enemy attack."
Though, this cry had no effect on his surroundings as much gun shots sound out from all over the place and cries of death followed those gunshots. Though the oddest part of it all were the last words spoken by these dying men.
"Finally... I won’t make her wait anymore."
"Sorry... this is what I deserve."
Cries filled with relief as the soldiers died one after another.
Which scared Maisel for a while, he looked around and found no enemies. And when rushed forward to find a body, he saw that the one who killed these men was themselves.
It was a suicide, a mass suicide from the scope of what Maisel searched.
"Wh... What is happening?" He checked the surroundings, but the more he did, the more sounds of death reached his ears.
Which forced him to stop in his place for a while. The flames still burned brightly on his body, the nature of his fire was purification and the flames will remain stronger as long as the fuel is provided to it.
And from the size of such flames, Maisel can ascertain that it was still being fed somehow even if he can’t detect the origin of the curse anymore.
And it was this curse that was causing such a tragedy. Running rampant all around, while he remains passive, unable to do a thing.
"I need to find it." Maisel said, getting up from his place, before a few gunshots again reached his ears.
It would seem the backup forces arrived here after not receiving any updates in the ast five minutes, causing them to take action, but all they found here was a curse that forced them to kill themselves.
"This whole place is compromised." Maisel sai, as regret and fear took hold over his heart, emotions that had turned alien to him. But due to the flames tat probably suppressed the effect of the curse, Maisel rushed to his room and then picked up the communicator and opened the line.
"Hello Major, what is going on?" The other side was confused over why there had been no updates in the last five minutes, unaware that the men that were sent to the Office already died before entering the building.
"This land had been cursed, bar anyone from entering..."
Before Maisel could finish his sentence, a gunshot sounded again, followed by gunshots in succession that left him speechless.
"??"
"They died?"
He can hear the sounds of gurgling and panicking from the other side of the communicator.
A total of two gunshots, but from the shouting on the other end of the communicator, it would seem a total of four had died.
And these four men killed themselves the moment they heard Maisel’s voice.
"The curse is not on this land, it’s on me?" Guilt tok hold over Maisel.
Years of experience have told him that curses can’t be defined in any way or form, they don’t hold any reason for their existence or the power they hold. They are enigmatic and unpredictable, with their danger varying to high degrees.
Its why they were so dangerous in olden days and why and why those that can hold sway over such curses were so feared in old days.
As for him? He was ignorant of curses, all he ever did in his life was to burn them up the moment they came close to him. Using them to fuel his flames and gain even stronger strength.
But what now?
’I should have stopped that boy.’ Maisel thought, as the flames weakened on his body along with his will. While the dark thoughts slowly started to take over him.
-"Marshall, sorry for the delay, but something bizarre happened here."
A voice called out from the other side of the communicator, but Maisel didn’t speak a word. He didn’t dare to cause any further harm.
Even the thought of leaving the notes felt scary to him, who knows if leaving information of what happened here on his own would also create another victim of the curse?"
And then, he heard another round of gunfire, which told him enough that it was time to leave. So in the dark of the night, he left the room, taking nothing with him as his eyes turned hollow and his strong visage became weaker the longer time went.
The fire on his body illuminated the dark path as he walked across countless bodies that were strewn about all over the place. All of them who died by suicide.
But was it really suicide?
No, in a way. It was Maisel that killed them all. He killed them all and was now all alone.
And in his loneliness he came across the very boy who pushed this curse on him, the very same way the rest of those around him were dying.
He hunched down, without a fear of it being another trap, for he was already suffering from something much stronger and lethal.
Turning the boy’s body and searching in his pockets, Maisel found a small map, which had a single location marked on it. A place much further than here and from the shape, it was a teleportation circle, while on the very bottom of this page, there were few words.
"If you wish to get rid of that curse, come here."
These were the only words. There was no need to prevent Maisel from bringing his men, there was not even a need to speak of any extra details. For Maisel’s lips were sealed, he was completely isolated in true sense.
Any attempt to contact others would result in their death.
And if Maisel had to stop this, he had to walk into the tiger’s den on his own and face them as well as whatever things they can conjure up.
But of course, this was the true nature of the curse. How Soros was able to control it to such an extent, I didn’t know. His mentality was strong and if he was trained to be a curse user or even an Exorcist, he would have had a brighter future.
Sad to say, that future didn’t come to pass and now this curse had been sent to someone highly incapable of holding it.
A curse that would kill those around you to create isolation, a curse that torments you mentally and emotionally until you break and take your life.
And when you eventually do, then the true nature of the curse shows itself, bringing one’s soul to eternal torture of true isolation.
A future that Maisel can’t run away from.
Of course, that is until the Blue Lotus decides otherwise.
Though, all of us know what the fate of Maisel would be, the person hated by Blue Lotus had no way to escape his fate anymore.
Death comes to all and it was his turn now. And in his time, I won’t be there to save him from that eternal torture of isolation and boredom.
Though, I have spoken a bit too much.
For in two days time, the fate of this city will be decided.
