The God of Jesters -
Chapter 80 - 2.22.1 A mistake.
Chapter 80: 2.22.1 A mistake.
Kairut was stunned when he heard the animalistic cry of the thug, which reminded him of an animal to be butchered. But what this animal cried was horrific to say the least.
He was only here for one purpose only and that was to leave this place using the teleporter and move to the other end of the city, which would save him a lot of time and effort.
Not long ago, he had learned all he wanted to from the information guild and something extra as well. Even the incidents that transpired in the barracks were out in the open to these information agencies, and with enough money, he bought it all just for one purpose. And that was to know what Jester did there.
Though, what he learned through it was horrific. To take away the body of Farhad, he sent the whole barracks into deep sleep, while attempting to create monsters. Or so he had been told.
But Kairut doesn’t believe that was Jester’s true purpose. Moreso, it was nothing more than a taunt, and the way the army acted after that taunt was for all to see.
So Kairut stepped up his pace, he rushed through the crowd that still maintained some distance and then attempted to hide from the prying eyes. But it would seem, he was a step too late, Remira noticed him.
She still looked better than the rumors, her face was stitched up, but it didn’t make her look ugly. But it was still a face he didn’t want to see at this moment. Kairut can only pray that she doesn’t identify him. Otherwise, he might have to give up his identity like last time and escape after causing a distraction.
But from Remira’s gait, Kairut knew that all his hopes were ruined, she was moving towards him, while Kairut maintained his head straight toward the brothel where the teleportation circles were hidden.
Hoping that the security would bar her entry.
But before he could enter the brothel, Remira ordered. "You there young boy, stop!" Which caused Kairut to pause for a while, before his mind, which had been filled with worry, suddenly thought one point. ’Young boy?’
The current Kairut looked young, but calling him a young man would be too much. No, it was highly bizarre.
But before he could think anymore, he turned his head a bit and noticed two figures, one tall while the other short. With one of them looking straight toward Remira.
A look that turned to surprise as he found the taller figure familiar.
’Its him.’
He might not know who the small boy was, but he was sure of the identity of the taller one.
No matter how much you hide it by using skin masks, you can’t hide your aura, not from someone of Kairtu’s level. ’That recruiter... Blue lotus.’
’Remira has her eyes on him... it’s perfect.’ Finding an opportunity, seeing that Remira’s attention was not on him, Kairut slowly disappeared to the side, while Remira approached the two who were already on their guard.
But he didn’t move toward the brothel, he just moved away from the scene. No, he just attempted to hide from Remira, while looking for a specific chance. As for what it was, the following events would only tell. Though, this was not before he sent out a message to his master, who seemed awake at the moment.
*****
Remira looked straight toward a single boy that she hadn’t seen for a long while. A boy she had hunted for a long time and failed again and again, after the initial meeting.
A boy that carried so much curse that it was almost unnatural. A curse that was not his own. It was why Remira was looking for him. And finally, after such a long time, she found him.
But it was not due to his face. Long before, she had smelled a specific smell on this boy, a smell that she only remembers from Vaisel’s Enchanted Potions shops. But with the shop gone, how can there still be someone of that smell, and it was a specific smell that was unlike that of other potion shops. Which was why Remira’s head instinctively focused on the individual exuding this smell and in turn finding the boy she had been looking for all this while.
As for the old Knight, he was curious only for a while, before taking out his sword after looking at the boy with his cursed prying eyes. Before this, the boy was like a crocodile hiding in the marsh, hard to notice due to the ring he wore. But when the old knight’s eyes focused on Soros, the effect of the ring was almost negligible, because it was like hiding a crocodile using a plain sheet.
"What is that boy?" He asked, curious as Remira has never spoken of such a boy. While Remira on the side acted a bit confused, considering that the Knights should have received a report about this boy from Maxim.
But this was no time to think or talk. She too took out her blade and aimed at the boy.
"High chance of being a Blue Lotus Puppet." Remira explained, before seeing that the man who stood beside the boy suddenly opened his eyes wide, surprised at Remira’s words, before smiling. "Truly unpredictable. It’s no wonder." He said, in a voice that felt grating to Remira, before her eyes turned furious. "You survived?"
The last thing Remira remembers of this man was him tightly held by Aafik, before the explosion and he was at the very center of it. But from the looks of him, he seemed fine enough.
But Pansar didn’t speak, knowing that he had been found out. He left a clone next to Soros, while another clone appeared next to one of the running passersby, who stopped as a knife was put on his neck. "You know my schtick, you know how much I love to cut necks."
"So I say, turn around and go away from here." Was it a coincidence or another one of those clown’s plans, Pansar didn’t know.
But what he was sure of was that he can’t waste away Soros here, the ring had a time limit and there was only one chance for Soros to use his curse. Because the moment he does, his body would be consumed by it and rendered useless.
Soros was like a grenade that can’t be wasted on the likes of Remira. Not to mention, Remira was protected by the accursed Clown.
On the other hand, Remira paused for only a little, before moving ahead. "Kill however many you want, I don’t care." The arrogance as well as anger in Remira’s voice was apparent. The things she witnessed here left no goodwill for the people that frequented this place in Remira’s heart.
No, she outright despised them and even intended to burn them all when the time arrived. So why would she care about their life and death now?
Not when one of the targets was here.
So she rushed along with the old Knight, ignoring the boy who was just a normal human with a singular curse placed in his body, while their target was none other than the assassin, who posed the greatest threat here and seemed to be the one leading the boy.
Meaning, if they get him, there would be no need for the boy. They can deal with him later on if need arises, he can’t run far anyways. Which was not the case with the killer who was in front of her.
If given a chance, he might escape and she can’t afford that to happen.
So she rushed with a lit up dagger in her hand, while the old man followed from the side, looking for an opportunity to cut off Pansar’s path.
But Pansar just laughed for a while, before slitting the throat of his captive whose blood splashed over Remira’s face, just like before.
Or so it would have happened.
"??" Pansar
"?? Remira.
"Keep moving Remi....???" The old knight.
"..." Kairut.
The young man was none other than Kairut, who in his attempt to look normal, turned Pansar’s hostage as he couldn’t move away in time. And when Remira, who he thought would play along with Pansar, abandoned her kindness just to capture Pansar. He knew that it would be harder to hide his true nature any longer.
And he was right.
Pansar proceeded to cut his neck, or so he tried to do so.
But without the flame of devotion, outright negating his power, the knife barely left a smudge on his skin which was shimmered with light as the spell on his skin was activated, taking the blow of the attack.
"You pushed my hand, assassin." Kairut spoke, after cursing his fate.
Originally, he was going to stay on the back and watch the fight until Pansar was pushed back due to Jester’s condition. Then he would come and save him in order for obtaining the other half of the book.
But now, things are different. Not only did this little killer dared to attack him, but he also exposed him to Remira, which also put him in a difficult position.
So there was only one thing to be done here.
Mandible broke out of the back of Kairut’s head, sending the blood and bones flying around, while the two hook-like insect mandibles directly closed in on Pansar’s head at a lightening speed. The hooks penetrated the skull of Pansar in a single bite, killing him instantly.
