Chapter 78: 2.22.1 I am going.

The rat scuttled on the side, ignored by many in the barracks, the place which was used to hold traitors in custody if they were found. Hence for the same reason, there were only two cells in this place and the security was not as tight, inside.

Adam even had a freedom to move around his floor and the bars could be easily opened with a single push.

Not to mention, the soldiers that were on guard duty inside were playing cards showing that they didn’t give him thought to their job. Of course, they still have to provide Adam with any kind of entertainment and food if he asks for it, but there is always a limit.

Making it appear that this place was not a prison to Adam, and if he was the kind of person he makes others think he is, he would have fallen for their act.

But he knows, out of this floor, the security of this building was tight and there were even some curse users in hiding, brought over after the Sleep incident that shook the barracks.

This was why Adam was happy to see the rat, a rat that came over to his cell and then fell silent, almost appearing as if sleeping.

Which was the queue for Adam to sleep as well.

As someone whose activity was under tight watch, he can’t act suspicious nor make direct contact with the rat, the only place where the curse users won’t be able to detect his actions would be in the dream world, the domain in which the clown lived.

So giving the rat one look, Adam got up on his bed and went to sleep, which was also not that odd considering it was 12 at night.

And when he fell into the dream, a misty horizon came into his view, a mist that lit up like flames, hot and suffocating. Something right out of hell.

While on the ground below him, stood a man in a clown outfit, hiding his true form and emotions with a fake smile on his face. A being toward which Adam slowly dropped next to and looked at him with curiosity and anger recalling the injury on his arm.

Before suppressing his rage.

"I need you to take me out of here." Adam ordered.

But Jester didn’t say anything, just looking at Adam while his lanky hands and hunched visage kept staring at him creepily.

"Wraith, don’t act deaf. This is caused by your actions, your servant is the one that forced me into this situation." When Adam said these words, the Jester’s eyes finally lit up.

"Yes, he did say something like this... truly a wonderful servant." With a smile of ages, Jester then continued. "But what does that have to do with me, I was sleeping then, unable to even know what transpired in this wonderful city." Jester made a waving motion, showing his desire to not listen to Adam at all.

But this is what Adam has expected since the start. "Wraith, don’t forget why we came together... Vanessa is not someone who will listen to your request. She would probably try to cut you out of the deal. It’s what she does."

"So, without me. There is no you, on that entertaining night." Adam understood the nature of this wraith whose only pursuit was entertainment. A fact that Vanessa might not know, but he was someone with closer relations to the Jester, he knew it clearly.

He knew what made the Jester tick and what his true goal was in this whole mess.

Just a desire to be entertained.

But Jester didn’t buy Adam’s words, he just said. "I feel that countless minions of mine have disappeared from the city, and when I asked Kairut, he did tell me that you were still leading the Blue Lotus by then..."

"So if I didn’t think wrong, you were the one that pushed me to lose knowledge of many wonderful events. Memories that would have been so fun to remember were completely removed from my body... and the cause was all you."

Hearing such words, Adam was not worried at all, instead he put up his arm, which was still otten and injured, displaying it to the Jester. "You were the cause of this, I just retaliated equally."

And after seeing the state of hand, the curiosity in Jester’s eyes lit up, before he asked. "What did I do?... Tell me!!"

Although a bit unexpected that Jester had forgotten what he had done before, it was not weird for this to happen, he had seen Jester losing memories often and when that was mixed with Jester’s unending curiosity to look for entertainment and information, would always put Jester in a weaker position. So looking at that face, Adam smiled as it was the kind of expression that Adam was looking for.

So Adam shook his head in denial, "Take me out of here first."

Which made the Jester turn silent, putting his request for the events that transpired on hold.

"Sorry little boy, but that is not possible. Not after what you did to my precious little minions."

"Then I won’t tell."

"..."

Well, truth be told, I really wanted to know what happened. The same reason for why I wished to kill my biggest rat for not doing his job properly.

If he wanted to betray me, that is fine. But not telling me what transpired between me and Adam to push me to such a state? I was curious to say the least.

And Adam’s words really made me reconsider if I should do it. But an attack on the scale when I took over Farhad’s body was not possible anymore. It was based on years of accumulation and planning. Not to mention, the barracks were too far from the city, which caused my influence over this facility to weaken a bit further.

Which was further weakened due to the lack of my precious minions supporting me with their energy.

"Let me feast on your mind and I will provide you with freedom."

"..." At those words, Adam just stared at me. A bit embarrassing to say the least. Though, he finally spoke some words that made my thirst increase even more.

"I will tell you one of Vanessa’s secrets, how about it?"

Those words sounded like Angel’s encore in my ears, which was the final push I needed to agree to his request.

Of course, I won’t be able to pull off something on the level when Farhad resurrected, but there was still a way.

Though before I continue, one of the rats in a fav place of mine reported something to me.

’Oh, is it?’ I wondered, before speaking of delay to Adam, who turned frustrated instead.

But there was nothing to be done, some things are more entertaining when you see it in person.

So, with a flick of my finger, Adam was sent back to the real world, while I rushed toward the wonderful market under the Dorian district.

*****

An hour before the meeting between Jester and Adam.

Remira crawled out of the trash and found herself behind the old knight that was talking with some guards that were guarding the entrance to the market.

"Another one?"

"A disciple, I will pay for her." The old Knight said, before handing the men his money and entering the door, to which they found themselves in a wide path with luminescent lights stuck to wall.

With some me walking around the corner, which surprised Remira. "So many?" Remira said, while trying to adapt to the smell.

While the old man just gave a look at Remira and then explained. "The trash entrance is for outsiders, most houses above have an entrance to this place."

"... So we are marked as outsiders?"

"And poor ones at that, there are better entrances for the rich outsiders."

The old man explained calmly before walking in the sewers and this time, it was Remira taking the lead. Their job was simple, to map out the underground market while looking for signs of Blue Lotus activity.

THough, when Remira tried to converse with some locals that have set up stalls on the side, they refused to talk or give any directions. Even the prices of some products were too much for her to afford.

Not to mention, one of the stalls surprised her.

"Curse items in the open?" She wondered, horrified at the prospect. But before she could make any rash decisions, she was held back by the old Knight. Who, shaking his head, stopped Remira in her path.

"There will be worse things further ahead." The old Knight said, which made Remira recall what Haseem had mentioned to her before.

’Slaves?...’ She can’t think of anything worse than slaves. But she knew that if she wishes to succeed in this mission, she has to control her righteous fury. Though, when this was all over and the Blue Lotus were burned on the stakes. Then she would come down the market again and burn this whole place down.

An emotion that the Old knight can understand, but his years of experience had made him understand when to act and hide one’s true intentions, more so in enemy territory.

So the two moved forward with a smell that told enough people that the two were outsiders without much promise. Or someone dangerous who was hiding their true intentions.

And either way, this was warning enough for the natives in the market to maintain their distance from them.

As for Remira, she held back her emotions, feelings and anger whenever she came across the worst things humanity had to offer.
