Chapter 73: 2.20.2 Numbers
"One, come out and see, things don’t seem right." The man who drove the carriage called out to the old man in his code number.
And the old man that was busy explaining the situation to Remira, took a look out of the window and noticed the anomaly. "Something is odd." The old blue eyes said while looking out of the carriage. For there were a lack of pedestrians on the road and those that seemed to be talking close to their homes.
As for what?
The old man didn’t know.
There were only four blue eyes active in this city, three of which were on this carriage. Whereas the last one was responsible for distracting the police.
"What is going on?" The old man wondered, before saying. "Three, forego the main roads and use the back alleys, things don’t seem right." Their job is originally information collection, and when they are not doing it, they have their own life in this city.
But due to the current circumstances, they were in the dark. The last three days had been too eventful for them, with no chances to rest or even recollect themselves. Not to mention, there were only four of them. So there was a limit over how much ground they could cover.
So they moved through the back alleys, hiding from the eyes in case the police response is way faster than their assumption.
’Five minutes to reach the safehouse.’
The old man wondered, while Remira got up after her face was stitched back up.
But she didn’t move her lips much, instead noticing the weird worry in the eyes of the old man and confusion in the eyes of the woman that operated on her.
"What is going on outside?" Remira asked in a faint voice. The old man can only reply while shaking his head. "Can’t say for certain, but the citizens seemed worried."
"Because.. Of me?"
"Of course not. Whatever it is, it doesn’t relate to us."
WIth those words, the ride turned silent, while Remira sat on her seat, with her back to the wall of the carriage. Her mind filled with thoughts of what happened.
And it didn’t take long before the group reached their destination. Where Remira was helped down by the woman that sewed up her face and gave her some pain killers.
"Come, we have some potions that should heal you in a day’s time."
With those words, Remira was left to the building, which seemed to be an old pub without much fanfare, considering the gates of it were boarded up. Which also made it the perfect place to hide.
Though that was not what Remira noticed, on the side of the entrance, Remira saw a small icon that she had seen not so long ago.
’A turtle with three tales?’ The very same sign that was drawn crudely on the paper that other Radiant knight gave to her. Making her wonder, if things didn’t go the wrong way, maybe, that was Radiant Knight’s way of guiding her to this place?
But Remira didn’t speak much as was taken into the building, while the man called Three took the carriage away from the building before anyone noticed.
When Remira was taken inside, the bar didn’t seem to be in use, there was no one or any sign of someone living there.
The darkness, the musty smell and the dead air that blasted her face told enough that the bar hadn’t been opened in a while.
Which further confused Remira.
Originally, she had thought this place was the hiding place for the other Radiant Knights that arrived in the city.
"We will stay here for a while." The old man by the name One informed Remira. While the woman who was helping Remira, sat her down on a dusty seat, after cleaning it up with a swipe of her hand. "This place is safe, if you want, you can take a nap." Remira can hear the kindness in her voice and made her wonder why someone as young as her was throwing her life away for the Radiant society.
But she was not close enough to ask such questions, nor was this the appropriate time for it.
So Remira nodded and chose to wait after the woman gave her a healing potion, if her assumptions were correct, then someone would eventually come to meet them.
"Do you know what is going on outside?"
"Don’t know, but I did hear something about the military.... I will go out and check for real." The old man said, wondering what was happening in the city, which they were unaware of.
But before he can do so and reach the door, Remira who was acting asleep out of fatigue suddenly opened her eyes, while her nose perked up. "Stop!" she shouted, tearing away at her stitches a bit. But her cry was enough for the old man to come to a halt, and even back off somewhat, out of instinct.
Which would prove to be the right thing to do, as a misty arm tried to swipe at him from the other side of the door.
An arm, barely visible and something the old man named One would have treated as his mind playing tricks, if not for Remira’s warning.
"One, back off, it’s a wraith." The other woman, who seemed to be much learned over the supernatural, called out at an instant. But it was still a bit too late, the face of a old woman materialized from the gate, made out of smoke. Which directly moved through the body of the old man who was still reeling in from the shock.
Causing him to lose all energy in his body, and the last few back hair on his scalp, that turned white in an instant.
As for Remira, she bit her finger in an instant, causing it to bleed, before throwing her blood droplets towards the wraith. But she was still a bit late, as the wraith had claimed her first victim.
And although not dead, One’s life would be cut shorter and if not dealt with properly, he might just die on the ground due to lack of nutrition that lethargy one suffers after being touched by a wraith.
"Remira, stop right there. That old man would die with another touch."
A voice came from the other side of the door, which opened up to expose the figure behind. Which was none other than Levon, showing some pity in his eyes as he saw the old man that had fallen on the floor, an emotion which he hid instantly.
"You... you followed me?" With her cheeks bleeding again, Remira called out to Levon, who could only shake his hand and say, "I was ordered to apprehend you, never expecting to catch your compatriots as well."
"Because if I didn’t think wrong, there were only meant to be three." Levon said looking at the old man and then the woman whose eyes were transfixed on the old man.
"I don’t mean any harm, Just follow me to the jail and I promise to not harm your people."
"Your men shot me in the head, that cursed thing brought that old man closer to death and now you are using the same man as leverage?"
"Pardon me, if I find it hard to believe your words." The fire in Remira’s eyes was a sign of her immense anger, if she wishes, she can burn that wraith which was eyeing the old man named One, this very instant.
But due to the difference in distance and her broken body which was currently being healed by the potion. She can’t match the speed of the wraith.
Being rash would only make the situation a lot worse, so she chose to let the blood drip from her finger, waiting for an opportunity. Which might not come, considering who her enemy is.
"Miss Remira, I can understand why you might find it hard to believe me. And there are no excuses I can give you at the moment. All I can do is force you." Levon was also not someone who was good at words, knowing that this was not a situation that can be dealt with words, he took out a small gun, which put Remira as well as the other woman at guard, but he didn’t fire it at them. Instead, he aimed the gun at the sky out of the door, and then fired it.
And with a sharp cry, this projectile turned bright like a sun, attracting all sorts of eyes towards them.
"Now, there is no chance for you to escape in this current situation."
Levon had the old man in his hands as hostage, Remira was unable to fight, while the other woman?
Levon didn’t know who she was, but one thing he can say for sure, she was weak. And with enough time, it won’t take long for the police to arrive at this location, so there would be no need for him to push the group any further, which might result in some serious complications.
This was his way to save them, while also neutralizing them all at once.
But before he spoke a word once again, he suddenly felt a figure appear behind him. A figure whose horror caused him to take out his needles in his left hand, while he used his right arm to guard against the attack that he felt on his back.
An attack that arrived a lot faster than he expected, directly smashing his arm and then flunging him into the room, crashing him against the counter of the bar.
While the following next punch that the figure released was directly aimed at the wraith, which didn’t even know what hit it. And before it could cry in pain, its body was turned to ashes due to white flames.
"I was gone for a while and this is what happened?"
"3... you are here!!" The woman said, taking a sign of relief, before rushing to the old man and checking his situation. "He, he will live... It only looks serious, but his wrinkles are still the same."
"Then this man just earned the right to live." The man called 3 walked to Levon and took out his broken body from the splintered counter. A body that had turned bloody from the impact. Before throwing him to the side.
