Chapter 710: 11.03.3 A worried sister.

The world is one crazy place and the only thing that remains constant in this wild world is that nothing is constant. The chaos of it all is hard to predict, and the future is always so shrouded in fog.

But there are few that can pierce this fog, deemed to be descendants of the Fate, they are beings that were unlucky enough to see past the fog of the future. Though the price they had to pay for it was never enough.

As for changing that future? The price was even greater, one could lose their entire existence if they didn’t play their cards right.

Sadly due to the very fact that rarely those born with this ability survive till their teens, little is known about them in the world.

Though the term prophets and the like had been well known, but its mostly superstitions for the most part, and most in the world truly believe it. That there exist none of such people, no one that can see into the future.

And even if one does, rarely they will have the power to change the world around them.

At least the Lausans were lucky enough to know of a way to survive till old age, they had a way to suppress their talent which appeared from time in their bloodline. Which is what Gloria Lausan has done since her youth.

Her younger brother carrying the same amount of potential to be a powerful psychic was lucky enough to not be cursed with prophetic ability, which she was. She could see things since her birth, and each time she did, things never went her way. And it frustrated her.

So her grandfather taught her the methods to suppress it, the vision that would eat away at sanity, and the powerlessness that followed soon after. Everything was good after it, or so it should have been until her Grandfather had come to her one day.

"Darde’s future is filled with horror, keep him safe." Were his words before disappearing, as for where he went, no one can say, but considering he also carried the same kind of curse, it won’t be a surprise if he died due to what he saw.

He might have even seen his death, but Gloria couldn’t tell, for she had long sealed away her ability to see into the future.

But her Grandfather’s words never left her head. Even as she took care of her brother, teaching him about their family, their talent as well as the secrets they had, the more fearful she got with time. ’Death will come to him.’ She recalled the words of her Grandfather, and with those words came a paranoia.

As scared of death as she was, she was more worried about her brother, who she had been tasked to keep safe.

Though some things transpired in between, forcing the two siblings to drift apart, Gloria never forgot about her brother, although jumping from one work to another, she learned many things.

Including Rituals, hexes, curses, and even voodoo to a certain extent. It was something far easier for her, who carried the talent of a powerful Mystic.

But then, on a certain day when she thought of herself as ready, she has undone the seals on her mind, readying herself for the visions.

And the visions did arrive. ’What?’ The vision was chaotic, her brother lay there in death along with his wife, and on the very back of both of them was a figure.

A tall lanky figure watching the two dead lovers smiling, a smile that creeped Gloria to death, leaving her fearful and paranoid the moment the vision came off. "No, he is in danger."

"MAMA.... Aunty woke up!!." Shouted the little child, running from the edge of her door as she called for her mother, a beautiful woman with white skin and blonde hair, though her hair was longer, her face was pretty much the same as the one in a dream. ’It’s her.’ Her brother’s wife, which meant that the child that ran away should be her niece.

"Miss Gloria, we were worried about you." Darde’s wife, her real name was Nerissa, and it was the first time Nerissa ever saw someone else from her husband’s family. A woman of small height but rugged exterior. She might have once been a beauty, but the age and struggle rubbed all of that beauty off of her.

It was easy to see how hard the life she had lived, more so how she didn’t scream in pain when waking up, which was a surprise considering Nerissa had been the one to clean up her wounds, making it all the more apparent to her how odd this sudden coldness she felt from this woman. ’She can’t be normal.’ Her husband claimed that both siblings were good Mystics, weak and feeble like any mortal.

As for Gloria? She looked at her sister-in-law and then the little girl hiding behind her mother. "I... I apologize, I didn’t expect us to meet like this." She spoke, her voice low. Not going on the main topic at once. Not to mention, her niece was here, and being too emotional or forceful during this conversation wouldn’t be good for the child.

"I never did as well, but I always wanted to meet someone from Darde’s childhood." And Nerissa also didn’t bring up the topic for now.

She was smart enough. Don’t look at her status as a housewife; Nerissa grew up in the house of mages and encountered bizarre situations more often than one can imagine, which is probably why she and Darde were so compatible.

Because in her eyes, Darde’s oddities were all too familiar to her. Not to mention, the young Darde was a lot more dashing, with countless ladies pursuing him.

"My brother’s childhood?... I have many stories to tell, not all that Darde will be fond of." Nerissa spoke for a bit before asking. "Where is my brother, though? I can’t sense him in this house?" This house, carried a different feel to it, a different essence that suggested that the people started living here pretty recently.

And in none of those essences did Gloria feel the existence of her brother.

"He... is out for a job," Nerissa spoke, before sighing and continuing. "He is going to check on who targeted our family." Nerissa originally intended to speak some lies, but considering the talent shared between the siblings, it would be easy to be caught when speaking a lie.

Something her husband never does with her as he respects her privacy, but the sister, can sense lies easily even if she can’t gleam into the truth by reading the mind. It was one of the most basic abilities most Mystics possess.

This is why Nerissa gave up without any questioning and continued in words that wouldn’t worry her daughter too much.

Of course, these words did worry Gloria. ’That fool.’ She wanted to curse, still thinking of her brother as the foolish child he once was. ’No...’ He looked toward her niece and calmed down. ’Not now.’

The vision usually tells all one needs to know about the future, and from what she can gleam, her brother dies alongside his wife; that is set in stone. So, as long as Nerissa is safe, nothing will happen to her brother.

That’s how fate worked.

That’s how Nerissa became all the assurance that Gloria needed.

Well, that was until her eyes went dark for a second, imprinting a single scene in her head. ’Rats?’

It was the city being devoured by rats.
