Chapter 71: 2.19.3 Shot in the head.
"Is this some sort of joke?" Remira asked, looking at the men that came with the intention of taking her in. She can see the cuffs as well as some curse talismans used to seal one’s powers away.
From which, their intentions seemed clear. There was no need to lie or act like this, unless they meant it. And it would also explain why there were so many people eyeing her all this time, treating her like a criminal.
And the Police in black uniform, with his casual scowl replied. "Your actions lead to deaths, I don’t see why you would consider that a joke."
But this was not what Remira meant and the Officer understood it clearly, but he was here to apprehend Remira, not act as a judge on whether she did a crime or not. A man that just followed his order and in his mind, Remira’s carelessness is a crime the moment it costs the loss of lives.
As for Remira, hearing the death count of seven made her feel a bit of guilt, there was no way to explain the situation. It would have been better if she didn’t reach that chamber filled with Methane gan, but there was a high chance if she didn’t, she would not be alive for now.
Not to mention, it were her own compatriots suicidal actions that led to the explosions, which she has to own up to.
And she would have done it, she really would have silently followed the words of the officers and followed them to a holding cell. But with things she knew now, and the danger that lurked beneath the city, she can’t do so anymore.
So she spoke. "There are mad magicians, a cult and monsters running around. And you came to catch me?" Her tone was filled with ridicule. "Pardon me if I sound a bit confrontational here, but from what I see, you are planning to make me a scapegoat."
The officer remained silent at this claim, there was no need for him to reply to Remira for he knew nothing and was only following the orders. Though it didn’t mean he didn’t consider her words.
But that was all he could do, thought for a while before saying. "Sir Remira, I would appreciate it if you don’t struggle." With those words, he took the sealing talisman from his men and then approached Remira.
His intentions were clear to Remira, the moment the Talisman sticks to her body, her blood would go silent and her supernatural ability would be blocked off.
Though, that would still not pose much problem to her as she is still someone capable of rivaling five adults through her physicality alone. Which was common among the knights.
But would she let her blood be sealed?
No, doing that is the same as turning into a fish on a chopping block.
There was also a simple plan of waiting for the Marshall, with him here, the police won’t dare to act out. But that was if he was here, Remira can see from the light out of the windows, it was already evening, meaning the marshall has been out for more than eight hours at minimum. As for a specific time, she didn’t know.
Now did she hold any hope in the Police to do things the official way, considering how antagonistic the Police chief was towards her.
’Someone among them is working for the Blue Lotus.’ A conclusion she came to easily.
The sewers were the biggest proof of corruption, there was no maintenance done there for years and somehow all the scribbling on the walls have gone unnoticed by the municipality.
So letting her get sealed by the police is dangerous.
"Please, it’s going to sting only a little." When the officer was a meter away from Remira’s bed, the talisman in his hand started to float and inch toward Remira.
And Remira felt the effects of the seal instantly, she can feel her blood slowly being suppressed, the closer the talisman came to her.
It was as if a mountain was on her chest, the air felt heavy and the gravity seemed to increase. "Guess, there is no other choice." With those words, Remira used her right hand to drag the blanket between her and the Talisman, which didn’t weaken the strength of the Talisman at all. But it was enough to stop the Talisman from reaching her.
Then before she was shot by the officers men, she rolled off the bed, barely missing the shots.
"Remira, stop the struggle. Don’t you know what will happen?" The officer cried with two giant needles in his hand, which gave Remira enough understanding who this man was.
’An exorcist?’ Exorcists were a kind of Curse users, who focused more on sealing instead of utilization of said curse. Which explained the origins of sealing talisman.
But there was no time to waste here, Remira, using the blanket to hide her visage, dodged the bullets and walked out of the range of the Talisman, causing her blood to become active once again.
Though before she could fully relish the feeling of being in control again, one of the needles flew and directly penetrated her leg, causing her whole body to experience weakness, almost making her fall to the ground.
But with a bit of her thought, she riled up her blood and broke the seal in her body, but felt drained soon after. Not to mention, the leg that was struck seemed to not work as she suddenly fell.
Putting her at the mercy of the guns.
"Stop! Don’t shoot!" The officer said, before turning to Remira. "Remira, any more than this, and my next attack won’t be as kind as before." The exorcist took out another Talisman, after the last one lost its effect after Remira’s last stunt.
"You... you don’t seem to be working for them. So you should know that there is something wrong here." Remira said, looking at her leg as proof. If he was really working for the enemies, this Exorcist would have used this chance to kill her. But he didn’t.
"You can say those words in front of the judge, because anymore struggle and I would be forced to give up my mercy." The moment he said it, one of the Police officers that came to the room suddenly fired at Remira, directly at her head.
Much to the Exorcist’s surprise. His body reacted almost instinctively to cast a shield talisman on Remira’s body, but before he could do so, the bullet already reached Remira’s body.
Then, there was a sound of bang, with blood spraying on the wall, while Remira’s head fell down forward.
Then he turned to the man who fired the bullet and then with a flick of his wrist, one of the needles stuck the man’s harm, rendering it useless and causing him to fall down.
"I will deal with you later."
Things are messed up now. No, it would be better to assume that he would turn into the scapegoat the moment the delegations from the Radiant church arrive here, asking about what just happened here.
’I was a fool to take this job.’ Regret was all that remained in him. But for now, he still has to go through with the proper process.
"Sir, this is not right. Why are you doing this?" One of the officers asked, but all he gained from it was a sharp gaze from the Exorcist named Levon and another needle on his forehead, causing him to fall as well.
Which scared others around here.
"If anyone else has any questions, speak now." He ordered, but none other dared to do so, which Levon didn’t like.
If possible, he wanted for more rats to expose themselves, but it would seem he was thinking too much.
He should have waited before playing his cards. So for now, he has to deal with the problem that was in front of him.
Though, the moment he looked to where Remira’s corpse was meant to be, there was no one beside a small pool of blood.
Then he heard a crashing sound from the window. Making Levon rush to it and look below.
"Remira."
She escaped, though not without any harm, for the moment she turned to look at Levon, he could see what had actually happened.
The bullets blasted her left cheek and her ear, which was the origin of the blood pool.
As for following her from here? There was no chance for it. The room was five floors high and unless it’s a knight, it’s impossible to survive the fall.
And Remira didn’t seem that fine, as she limped away from the hospital, under the confused gazes of the public.
"Go, follow her." He ordered his men, who too were surprised by this change of events.
But before they could, they suddenly noticed some warmth on their back. And when turning around, they saw the blood of Remira had caught fire, increasing in intensity and size.
Which turned the eyes of Levon dark.
"Help in evacuation of this floor, stop the fire from spreading."
"Inform the police chief what happened here, along with the actions of these two."
"As for Remira, I would personally hunt her down and with her limp and injuries, she won’t be able to run far anyways." Levon ordered, before sprinting out of the room. Much to the confusion of those that stand backup in case something serious happened in the room. As for other patients and hospital staff?
All of them were cleared from this floor, along with the floor below, beforehand, in case something serious happened.
Which it did.
