Chapter 707: 11.02.6 I can save you.

Waking up, the place was unfamiliar, and the smell of alcohol and the tightness of gauze on his body were apparent. The plan worked, for Darde was currently in a room unknown to him, but from the wooden door and the smell, he wasn’t too far off from the bar. There is a high chance he was still in it, just kept in another room after being given a light level of patching up.

But he didn’t move, his mind expanded, feeling the people around him. Some strong, strong rough to make his situation hopeless. But Darde didn’t feel fear, this was to be expected, he had walked straight into the lion’s den and killed one of the cubs, it was obvious that the lion would be angered and come rushing here to assess the situation.

Which is what happened. ’Wonderful.’ Ignoring the issues on the other side of the door, the inside of his body, Darde can tell he had been given a potion to speed up his recovery process, but they probably didn’t intend to give something expensive, as in the long run, a potion like this will be harmful, due to the issues it will leaves while doing its healing.

’They gave it to me intentionally, they mainly want answers.’ Darde’s mind worked, his eyes flickered for a bit before opening it up. ’Expected time for me to wake up should be far less than the one they expect, but no more than five minutes of difference, whoever gave me the potion will enter this room in a while.’ Looking around the room was closed off, leaving no exits.

But that would be foolish, there should be some air circulation even in a room like this. Which is how anyone in this room would stay alive for long. ’It shouldn’t be a jail.’ A bar having jail, is not possible, nor would Lady Emira be foolish enough to bring her products and keep them here, it was mainly an information and job hub for specific kinds of degenerates.

’So this should not be impenetrable.’ His mind worked wonders at this moment, feeling the slight hint of air circulation, he found the small little holes in the wall and when looking closely, one would see it being somewhat cut, forming what can be considered to be an air vent. ’Hmm, it will be troublesome.’

Although Darde was someone who exercised regularly, the company parties and the homemade food had caused him to gain some weight, making the subsequent actions harder for him. "Hmm... " But, there was no other way out, he didn’t wish to abuse his badge at this moment. And bring trouble to the police.

And it was trouble, for these places were official business hubs that had been under protection by the city government. So his attacking this place in a way turned him into a criminal. But considering why he did all this, it was all worth it.

’Move.’ He abandoned the clothes, and then tucking in his somewhat small pot belly, he lifted the vent and slithered in.

It was cramped, dusty, and smelled of dead rats.

’Why so many?’ He wondered, he ignored the oddity, the fact that the smell was only ever limited to the vent and not spreading outward.

Why should he care at this point anyway? In his mind, he needs to escape this place no matter what.

’They are moving.’ And besides all of that, his mind was still focused on the other men who were moving toward his room. ’It will be chaotic for a while.’ Of course, it was going to be, but with the way he got rid of the clothes, it is soon going to be far more troublesome they think.

"He escaped... a shout came before it was drowned by a light cough followed by a scream. "Fire... that bastard set up fire."

Currently, Darde’s body lacks some of his bandages. Bandages that were lathered up with alcohol, made it easier to light it up in fire using a single spark formed by slight friction.

And a fire that did cause some commotion, but it could never grow too big considering that it was detected on time and dealt with.

But that was the limit. It gave Darde enough time to escape to an empty part of the bar with a window.

Which did work, partially because he noticed an odder scene at play. ’A powerful psychic?’ he thought, feeling that something far greater than his own mind was arriving in this place soon enough.

’No, I will be caught.’ Originally, Darde was moving slowly, hoping to decrease his footprint and make as little sound as he could. But life is never so simple. There will always be unexpected changes happening each second.

’Move.’ he rushed, making a sound that did catch the ears of some of the men who were dealing with the aftermath of the small battle that took place here.

And they moved. Their mind was already alert after learning that the only survivor had escaped and there was a fire left in his wake, so when they heard some sound from the walls, they already had some inkling of what it might be.

And their attacks came at that very instant. Gunfire first and foremost, before the strongest of them, an adept ranked Knight ordered them to stop saying. "Do you wish to attract the pigs here?" he spoke, before turning to look at the place where the sound was coming. "And besides, all you were shooting in the wrong direction.’ As he spoke, a small blade appeared in his hand, which the man there with godly accuracy.

Braking the walls and the metal lining of the air vent, the knife directly dug into Darde’s leg. "Fuck." Sealing Darde’s movements in place as the Knife pined his leg in place. ’It was worth it.’ Darde can’t do much, due to the small space, his hands can’t reach his legs, nor do his legs have much space for movement and if he kept moving, that knife would slice his leg clean and probably hit some important artery, killing him right then and there. ’

’It was worth it.’ Darde deluded himself with a lie, a lie he wholeheartedly believed in.

At least, he was not aware, his family was not in danger. ’The best choice is to move forward.’ Darde knew, that if he was caught by these animals, his death would be excruciating, and in a way to punish him and make an example out of him, they would probably threaten and harm his family for real so that others wouldn’t dare to pull stuff like he did.

’But if I die, none of that will happen.’ So Darde made up his mind, that powerful psychic honing on his position was already dangerous enough because once they came, it would become impossible for even his soul to escape.

’So death it is.’ He moved a few centimeters, feeling the knife cut deep into his left, creating a small arc.

’Peaceful on.’ He stepped a bit forward again, or he planned to until a sound came. "Don’t be foolish, dying such a sad death... why don’t you come and work with us, I can save you from this place and help you with whatever you are after."

A sweet and young voice played in his head, making Darde open his eyes, as his mind expanded again, finding a small bug close to his ears. "Why should I?" The people were closing in, they already knew his position and it won’t be long before they rip open the vent and take him out.

So asking questions at this point was really foolish. Anyone else in his place would have accepted the offer without much thought considering the situation, but Darde knew the world more than one knows. Such an offer generally has a steep price at the end. A price that Darde might not be willing to pay for moral reasons or something other.

"If death is what you want, then so be it. I only came here due to having some interest in you after hearing the words of your exploits before, it’s not every day you find someone that can mess up mind as good as you."

’Hmm...’

"Ok, save me... but just know, if whatever you want with me is wrong, don’t expect me to play along."

"Arrogant one, I expect some thanks after this."
