Chapter 706: 11.02.5 Frustrated mini.
A barrier that still keeps the mages at the top, even with all the newly developed modern weapons. But as always, there is a weakness for such obstacles. "Being a mage won’t save you." She moved, intending to close in on the distance before this apprentice-level mage fired any magic at her.
The girl succeeded, her strike with a coated blade directly breaking the barrier that could easily block a normal bullet, and then a punch to Lady Emira’s head, causing her to groan as she fell down on the floor.
Mages, unless they enter higher ranks and modify their body using spells or other magical implements, are closer to mortals, just like spiritualists. Making it easier for the Girl to take out Emira in a single strike.
But that was not enough. She still took out a needle laced with the same old poison and stabbed Emira before she could get up. "Now there is peace.’ She spoke, hearing some gunshots in the back.
Though, why should she care about that man? Although appearing weak from the physical he showed previously, he was obviously not a simple fellow to kill so easily, even for her who had done her fair share of butchery on people, that kind of coldness was not something even she carried.
’Make it easier.’ She ignored the sounds from her back and looked ahead into the tunnel obviously leading above. And if this woman was not stupid, then her exit should be someplace isolated to not garner any attention. ’Let’s go.’ So the girl held Emira on her shoulders and carried her through the path Emira was already escaping from.
However, it didn’t even take 2 seconds for the girl to notice an odd indent on the wall with a switch. "Of course." Which she directly turned down, causing the path behind her to collapse under an explosion.
But before the explosion, she saw a figure, a middle-aged man saying, "Stop." But it was already too late; the path was closed, and the man was left behind.
Injured and bleeding, he looked as the woman he so wanted to converse with escaped from his grasp. "I will get my answers." And he did it, even if the distance was only two meters between them and the walls were collapsing, Darde let go of his inhibitions and although there was a giant range between them, he forcefully entered the mind of Lady Emira, a mage who could have easily fought off Darde’s intrusion before. But with the poison that did more than just paralyze, it worked.
"Blind, chaos... fractured memories.." Without keywords bringing forward the specific ones he was looking for, all Darde saw in this chaos was regret, fear, and memories of old when Lady Emira herself used to be part of the slave circle in the mage tower, It was only because of her talent was discovered that she was able to ascend above the rest and be what she is now.
But none of that matters to Darde, he can feel it, the connection loosening as the woman took Emira away from him. "Get me what I want." His soul didn’t care at this point, with his shrinking vitality from all the injuries and forced strain on his soul, his state started to deteriorate in real time as he started to ravage Emira’s mind from all over, breaking her mind into several pieces as he kept destroying what was not important to him and before his mind completely severed connection.
He saw it.
"Just the investigator?... aware of him. He is of no threat to us."
"You don’t get paid for asking a question, just take him out as cleanly as possible, remove those that might ask any questions as well." Those were the words, that Darde heard before the scene cut off, and he fell down on the floor, weakened and injured. ’I can’t go...’ The sound of this collapse, those above must have already heard it, and they must be rushing here.
And with the state Darde was in at the moment, he would probably die. ’The traps above... they might earn me just five minutes.’
He dragged his broken body inside, where the men he killed one. Then finding the one that had the closest resemblance to him, he took his clothes and wore them, while dragging the body of the other one toward the collapse pathway, and then using one of the rocks to crush his head and then one arm, before he held his own arm on the man’s leg, while using his other arm to drop another rock on both of them, fracturing his arm, but giving a certain illusion that he had stopped the man and let him be crushed under the rubble.
’Perfect.’ And then, Darde lost consciousness.

Mini, still small as ever, it appeared she never grew up. But her eyes showed age, the illusion of innocence that she had maintained a decade ago was gone, replaced with a level of confidence that usually comes to those who carry responsibility.
And that’s what Mini became, no longer hiding under the cover of a robe, but basking in the sun filled with arrogance befitting her rank.
"Her mind is broken, Jenin," Mini spoke, looking at the living corpse that was brought to her. "A mistake on my end, but I would hope you can find where she might keep her ledger? It would make our subsequent actions in this city far easier than before." But the woman named Jenin was not disappointed in the slightest.
She already knew that she made a mistake, more so a mistake made during a personal errand. So it would usually make sense for her to deal with the issue herself.
But the cult of Jester was unlike any other cult; it was more like a family than one might think, so such requests made by those on lower ranks were not uncommon. "We had suggested you lie low," Mini spoke again, looking at the young Jenin, who didn’t speak much for being called out.
Well, what can she do anyway? Who knew things would escalate so much in just one day. Throughout the story, Mini is partially aware of it due to the eyes she has spread through the city.
"We are not animals, you don’t jump on prey when you get the chance... you jump them when it’s the most advantageous for us... which was not the case this time." The chaos for one was an issue. It would have been much better if Jenin had taken a traditional approach to obtain the ledger, than a forceful one like this.
"That was the most advantageous moment for me... I don’t think I would get such a chance if I lost it then."
"If you really think that, then you have to get better, that was a foolish decision, no matter how you saw it."
"But, what’s happened has happened, and not much is to be gained on our end... besides this corpse, that is."
"Is it really unsalvageable?"
"Touching a mind this broken will be dangerous for me, and I don’t intend to take such chances, more so when her mind was hit with the might of a Mystic, there is a chance he might leave some hidden dangers inside... it’s not worth it."
"But... I don’t need to use the methods of the Mystics to find the truth. Just leave her corpse with me, go on a break, a real one where you don’t do much besides stay hid in a corner, and then come to me in a week, I will have something for you." Mini spoke, looking at the body of Emira, old and decrypt on the inside, while appearing young and beautiful on the outside, oh, how she hated mages.
For herself, being an Exorcist, she had to endure multiple hexes and potions to maintain her age and looks.
Don’t go for her small stature and youthful skin, Mini was already over fifty years of age at this point. Considering that the Exorcist don’t gain extended life as they get stronger, the chances of the exorcist falling on their path keep increasing.
The only one to subvert this exception was Malidi who had disappeared since the serpent incident.
"Master, I don’t know how you can handle so much all at once." She sighed, looking toward the pawns spread throughout the city and a new pawn she found somewhat interesting. ’He is not a normal one.’
