Chapter 702: 11.02.1 Old sis is back.

Mersood was a developing city, neither too big nor too small. But its potential for greatness was written in its geography. With the world getting shorter and shorter since it was connected through railway lines, it won’t be long before industries slowly established themselves in this city, considering how it was stuck in the middle of multiple major cities and ports.

This is one of the reasons, Lausan Darde, the investigator of Mersood State Police and a Master Rank Mystic often found the old homes abandoned from time to time in his neighborhood. And nothing shady was going on, mind you, just simple land procurement before the city’s golden age arrived. This means the price of the land in the city will only keep turning greater and more expensive.

This caused one to wonder, if none of these old town folks were foolish enough to abandon their homes so easily, they were sitting on a huge pile of gold that will only keep becoming deeper and deeper.

Though they still chose to leave, they still chose to leave with the little money they were offered by the Mafia and merchant guilds that were already eying each and every piece of this neighborhood.

And Lausan, even with his identity as an investigator and some power in the city, a letter was stuck to his door. "Hah." He sighed, today had been a bit hectic, the killer had somewhat exposed her tracks, and they finally had a lead of sorts.

Something he should be happy about, but there was no joy on his face, Lausan just looked at the letter and opened it. "Leave your house... this is the last warning." The letter spoke, but Lausan didn’t care, well to a certain extent that is.

His mind wandered for a bit, detaching itself from his body and soon finding around three individuals in different directions keeping a close watch on him. ’Fools.’ He was an investigator, such a level of threat even if backed by force was nothing to him.

His office is already aware of the issues, and they have a way to deal with them.

And their answer?

"There is no need for this, I am leaving today." He spoke out loud, opening the door and finding most of his belongings already packed, with the help of his wife and daughter. Both of them are well aware of the trouble, but not daring to do much about it due to the stories and examples they have seen themselves.

"Papa, are we really leaving here?"

"We are going to a place with loads of other kids, you will be sure to enjoy it there." he smiled, rubbing his daughter’s head, before looking at his wife and asking. "What about you, still feeling sad about leaving our first house?"

"The furniture at least, it took us so long to choose all those designs, now, everything is being left behind." She ruminated before making a small smile. "But none of that matters, family is where we all live together." She smiled. And Lausan as well.

This place will soon be taken over by the Government and none of the merchant guilds that have been eyeing it.

The rest will all depend on the city and not him, who had already been allotted a plot inside a protected community for government workers—a place that is not easily accessible to the random goons on the streets.

And once his hands are off this land, there won’t be a reason for them to pursue him and his family anyway.

Or so he thought, as unaware to him not next to one of these tails, a figure appeared. Her hand struck deep and fast, decapitating the man before he could even know what happened. "One dead." She spoke, her eyes darting toward others and a potential she saw not too far off into the future. ’Killers.’ Hatred was in her voice, as she moved faster and faster, slowly and surely hunting each of these individuals before they could do anything at all.

But the more she killed, the odder her body became, cuts and bruises appeared, her body turning lethargic and weaker by the second. But she still kept at it. Killing three, then five, and then over ten people in a matter of minutes with a speed far exceeding the ranks of a Master. But that is the limit of her strength.

And when done, she weakly walked in front of the house, where the family was slowly bringing out the luggage. "You." And Lausan was not ignorant of her existence, he had sensed someone walking close to him, but he never expected this slow figure to carry a hint of blood. "Stay far away, I am armed," he spoke, taking out his gun, while a spirit hand of his brought lightly clutched a dagger on his back, ready to face the enemy that could come at him at any time.

But instead of attacking Lausan, the woman spoke. "Darde... take care of me." Before she fell down on the floor, losing consciousness."

Darde was startled, while his daughter screamed after seeing such a scene. ’What?’ This voice was familiar—a voice he had heard since childhood. "Sister." He spoke, rushing toward the figure while never letting go of his blade or the gun. His mind was even divided, keeping his family in his vision, never letting them go out of his sight.

’Something... why is she here?’ He didn’t believe it could be his sister. She left him in this city so long ago. Such a long time ago that he had even forgotten her face. But that voice, it was hard to forget, for it was that voice that had woken him up every morning of his childhood. ’’Sister?’ And when turning the body around and looking at the face of the young woman, Lausan Darde was sure.

"It’s really you?"

Do you know what history calls those that appear in the trying time to save the world?

Heroes.

These heroes, ’ backgrounds might differ, their nature even almost conflicting and their reasons even more diverse, but one thing they all have in common. All these heroes look for the betterment of the Majority in one way or another without giving a thought to their own health. They are a single-minded individual, always blessed in one way or another. Beings that are genuinely loved by the world and even gods, who give these heroes strong boons on their journey.

But there is one thing people forget to mention. Those named heroes in history? Well, they were those who succeeded in their goal, of bringing forth a better world.

As for those that failed? They would be lucky to be forgotten because there are some that are unlucky enough to be remembered as monsters, those figures that only brought misery upon their people.

"Sister, why... if our Grandfather was such a great man. Why do we hide it?" Asked the ignorant young boy, looking at his older sister, who was the only family he ever had.

This a question he has asked multiple times, but his sister never thought it was right for her younger brother to know the truth, more so, when these stories of their ancestor’s greatness were the only source of joy for this brother of hers.

But a person needs to grow up, one day or another. "He was part of a special group... a group formed specifically to help the world, but ironically, its members are strictly forbidden from helping the world directly or even interacting with it."

"Why though... you said they are to help the world don’t they?"

"The price Darde and the consequences of helping them. Direct intrusion will force the world to go on a course correction one way or another, the greater the chaos and changes brought by the visions of the future, the greater the retaliatory force when the world tries to course correct. It’s the thing our grandfather overlooked... it’s what led to a great disaster."

’And disaster it was.’ He looked at his sister, barely breathing, but her vitality was pretty much intact. ’Why are you here?’

"You saw her injuries, tell, what kind of weapon did they use on her?" Darde asked his wife, who once used to work in a mortuary. So she was pretty adept and used to seeing corpses.

But even then, her lips were sealed shut when she recalled the injuries while bandaging Darde’s sister. "It felt... it felt as if her muscles divided by themselves... it’s..."

"They were unraveling like a cloth thread?"
