Chapter 676: 10.06.3 A demon is here.

A trap, why, and how? Such thorough preparation that even I couldn’t predict. This was interesting and painful.

A shrapnel had struck my head, unable to pierce it on account of my strength, but it shook my precious brain, causing some blood to bounce around and giving me a temporary headache.

Whoever led this group, they were a bunch of smart people, to say the least. I had sensed not a single one of their existence before, but coming to the edge of the land and reaching the start of the abyss while being blind, can be seen as the reason for why it happened.

Truly a cursed place, the land of the blind where you can’t depend on anyone but yourself. So hateable I say.

And so we fell, my words entering Wajih’s ears as he turned his head below, all due to instincts, even though he couldn’t see a thing down below. As for the enemies, they too were startled. It wasn’t even a minute since their descent and the trap they set up above exploded. A trap that was meant to be part of their exit strategy as well as a prevent any parties that might have tracked them down.

Specifically, the Cynarkians were already aware of their movements and the harm they caused to the guards while entering this place, albeit from a different direction which is how they never get to interact with Jester and Wajih on the way.

But would those harmed guards pursue them so deeply? Obviously not, but who knows if there is a powerhouse capable of just that. Which is why such a trap.

The trap worked, causing them to worry. How many were there? Did the bomb kill their enemies? Were the enemies privy to their positions?

Everyone was blind, and everyone had limited ways to sense the area around them, causing the issues to turn for the worse. This was frustrating.

"Young master, go on ahead, we will handle the enemy." One of the Guards said, taking out what appeared to be small potions in his hand. Which while looking gave The Third Son a small fright who finally spoke out his will and rushed away.

They had already heard something fall on the ground not too long ago, along with the rubble. But was it the rubble or the body, it was hard to ascertain. Not like the Third Son of the Alahrun had the will to take any chances.

He was finally here, he had the tools to "break" into that place, as was written in the notes of his father. This was his chance to make a name for himself, his own influence over the family. And if that were to not work out, he could start a branch daily of his own. This is the dream he came here with.

"Move Move Move!!" They shouted feeling the air around them turn turbid, smelling of sulphur. And before the Third Son could understand why the sudden change, a hand broke out of the ground and grabbed the legs of a man whose eye cover came loose. "Stay with us." Spoke the voices, causing the man to scream in fear as he looked at what it was that was dragging him.

"SAME ME!!" He shouted but everyone just ignored him and left the area as fast as they could, while more and more arms came out of the ground and the skies, slowly ripping the man apart piece by piece.

And from those screams, I understood what it was. ’An Archvile.... So close.’ I spoke no words, for this demon like us was blind, but its other senses were far sharper. The bomb before must have attracted its attention, bringing it here and now this happened.

The first victim. "Don’t make a sound, move slowly." Wajih was going to act the moment he dropped with me, but through a simple touch of mine, I conveyed my thoughts, letting him understand that now was not the time for such violence. Nor did we have any chance of winning. For this was their domain and only by playing with their rules could we win.

As for the rule that the man before broke? Well, he made too much sound and happened to stumble upon that monster the moment it came here.

"So move slowly, it can feel fear." Violence can deal with these demons, I don’t want to take any chances of attracting more of them.

Because, in truth, these things shouldn’t be here. But they were, and from the cacophony of bones crunching sounds I was hearing, they were here to enjoy themselves, which I can’t fault them with. ’The hole got bigger,’ I cursed, knowing the situation was far worse than before. It’s not the only sky that is an enemy; even demons have started to appear in this place.

’Things remain annoying, as always.’ It’s fun to have some struggle, the more chaos there was, the more unpredictable the results, making my chances of winning even higher.

So up we went, slowly moving away from the path using the sight provided by Wajih, thought wasn’t long before we heard a few more cries and even more sounds of tearing.

It doesn’t matter the strength of an individual, in the abyss, you are just a toy for the demons. And these toys just happened to be the loyal ones that dared to stay here in order to hold us back.

But now, they were entertainment for the Archvile and the souls damned souls he summoned. ’Shouldn’t make too much noise.’

The rules of each place differed and the ones in the Abyss were generally to never look up, as the sky would pursue you until it learns you can see the things hidden in it. And to never touch a thing that contains traces of Abyss. This does happen sometimes as certain enthusiasts do buy them, with some of them being mages, hoping to understand the Abyss.

But as is generally the case, they end up dying, as always.

So one must wonder what can be taken out of the Abyss.

Well to answer that, it was already in front of us. "Coldness, a sanctuary." I conveyed my thoughts to my friend who after learning of this place went in a hurry and finally "saw" what I meant by this.

"A pool of water?" He must have thought, and he was somewhat right."

"Water doesn’t exist in the real hell," I spoke ignoring the whole reason why the area around the water is considered a safe haven. But I will still explain to you all and him I guess. "The pool water reflects the real sky of our world, it’s the only way to escape from the influence of Abyss in this place... and mandatory to bathe in it to wash away the corruption we suffer every second being in the abyss."

I spoke, not finding our other friends anywhere. I guess they went the other way, which was understandable considering how distorted the space here was. Heck, from above, it would appear as just a 100-meter ravine with no end down below. But once inside, that 100-meter might stretch to 100 kilometers. No one knew how and why this even happened, as there are no actual Spatial distortions that one can cause through magic.

It just was, without any sense or reason.

Wonderful, ain’t it?

"You... how long have you known Ruhan was coming here?" This was a sanctuary of sorts, so it was no problem for us to speak. This is why the moment Wajih got the chance to speak, he couldn’t help but ask.

Which was absurd. "We just met a real demon at the entrance, and this is your concern?" I asked, looking at him and then shaking my head. "As for your answer, I am a totem, I got my means, also don’t think this was a trap on my end. I never expected something that absurd to happen." I can see what Wajiih might be thinking. Although it was impossible to happen considering the Third son of the Alahrun family can’t move a totem like me to drag around Wajih, suspicions abound due to my actions dragging him into danger.

"Bullshit... you are a totem as you say, and you can’t know they would set such a trap? Although I might not know anything about Domains properly, I know those things can fight off places like these."

"You must have known... one way or another." He spoke, showing his suspicions, but I can’t say I don’t possess any domain. All I did was show him my arm. "I am dying... and although the injuries on my physical body might seem extreme, the state of my true body is far worse. If I don’t obtain what’s inside the abyss, I will die." I had no reason to lie. I had nothing to gain from seeing Wajih fail.

Wajihi should understand this point too. Who after a bit of contemplation chose to accept my simple reasoning. Before coming to the other main point that should have taken priority since the start. "What of the demon outside, you said nothing of the likes existed here."

"Before yes... but I can’t say for certain now. My teacher brought me here fifty years ago, there was not much to see besides picking up treasures that appear in the sanctuaries."
