Chapter 674: 10.06.1 Are you stupid?

"Foolish... he is not the one then."

One of them spoke in the dark, their eyes pale white before he spoke of another name. "Choose the other one, Amir... " With that name, the people in the room started to tap their table in agreement, deeming the Duke a wasted product while hoping to mold Amir in a way they couldn’t do with the Duke.

Jester the bastard he was, enjoyed his journey to the mountain ranges that led to the abyss where the sky itself turned into hell.

Like before, the name of the Abyss varied. Some deemed it simply the Abyss of Madness due to the state of those who walked out of it, and that’s the name that was commonly used to define it.

But those who were interested in history also understood why it was named ’A demon’s retreat.’ A Great Demon that once walked the earth entered the abyss as his retreat after suffering losses on the material plane.

Named Rochan’s Retreat, it’s said that the demon had opened the gates of hell during its escape with his physical form, causing the corruption of the hell to spread into the material world, consuming the land and turning into an abyss.

And from what I know of the truth, once you are in the abyss, the sky that you see is not of the material plane, but that of the earth. And if you dared to be influenced by anything of hell, it will never leave you alone. You will be assimilated by it in one way or another.

This is why, there was a practice of all those who dared to venture into it while looking for the riches. "Blind yourself," I spoke, giving Wajih a small dagger I had collected from a fruit stall.

Who looked at it and then at my little figure. "What kind of place is this?" the legends on the Brihma continent were countless, but for someone from Azad, he really didn’t know the full scope of those legends, more so the details about the forbidden lands.

"One that requires you to be blind." I had one hand left, not only was my soul damaged and barely stitched together by my will alone, but the body that I was so proud of was also slowly being purified by the mark left by the Church of Red Sun. Those monstrous gods, I know they will be coming here soon, they must know my position, and it won’t be long before they come to hunt me.

Oh, how fun it is going to be, so much fun.

But before all of that happens, I need to recover my strength, my body, and my soul before doing anything further. "

"Don’t struggle over it, eyes are not hard to fix, mechanical, alchemical, and transmutation... I have these means to fix you. Not like you need my means anyways." Regeneration potions were hard to come by, but the prosthetics were built through learned science, and now that’s far easier to implement.

Not like the eyes were that important anyway, even a simple transplantation would work, it’s not like the heart of a Knight that was harmed, just the eyes. Not that hard to replace.

This is why Wajih, after struggling for a bit, chose to do as was expected. But not with the fruity knife I bought him, he just controlled his eye muscles and exploded the nerves inside of them, turning blind, but not completely, with enough potions and even low-level regeneration, he can recover a level of his sight back.

Not to mention, he was a grandmaster, the natural healing will probably help him recover his eyesight in a year or so.

"Ho, I had hoped to give you something better than those normal eyes." I sighed, before using the fruit knife to stab myself in the eyes. But no blood flowed out, it was the metal that got bent. "Oh, I forgot... My flesh is strong now." It would seem the numbskull was really me, with a foolish smile, I stabbed my thumbs inside my eyes, sealing my sights from the material world.

Which did make Wajih’s emotions a bit more stable than before. If he alone was going blind, then he must have asked questions about why it was needed when I could remain fine.

But now, a Totem like me was going blind for it, one can imagine the dangers inside.

"Wajih, tell me, how many wonders of death are there on your Azad?" I asked to walk ahead of the forest and use my strength to send the soldiers and guards that prevented any foreigners from accessing the banned area into a deep sleep and wonderful dreams.

Usually around these forbidden lands, it’s common to find guards. But they mainly exist to prevent the commoners from venturing into it, for the adventurers with the right credentials, they allow entry. But not before they had ascertained their background.

Which makes it harder for me and my friend.

"Seven... all occupied by one of the Major Conglomerates." The seven was a number available to the commoners, I bet there were more considering how bigger Azad was in size compared to Brihma.

But then again, this small land held more riches than anyone could ever imagine. There was a reason why there was such a struggle over this piece of land among countless powers. So I can’t say for certain if I am right about there being more than seven.

"Companies holding onto such pieces of land, that emperor of yours is pretty easygoing," I spoke, treating this as a somewhat foolish endeavor on the Empire’s end. But then again, it’s not that hard to reason why Azad allowed such a scenario to form. ’They are dividing responsibilities.’

’Hah, if only Brihma was so good.’

*****

They had failed in preventing the rise of a Demon. They had failed in his birth.

They had failed at causing a new path from being born in this world. "It’s all so futile." The losses on their end needed to be answered, but the man they wished these answers from was nowhere to be found. They didn’t even know if killing him was possible.

Maybe, the Baan of the Cynarkians can be useful. But that was only meant for the serpent, using it to deal with a man that the Cynarkians were not even enemies with, they won’t allow that.

’So frustrating." Spoke the Heliarch of the Red Sun, Solvex Graten. He was not some small head who oversaw the Brihma Chapter of the Red Sun, but the true Pope who led the entire religion and had direct contact with countless angels.

He was capable of annihilating an entire continent if he so-willed it. And generally, someone like him shouldn’t be allowed to live on Brihma, as it was against the rules. But due to a simple exception, Slovex had made this his home.

"Priestess Cold Corpses sacrifice meant nothing in the grand scheme of things." One of the Archbishops with the title "End" spoke, his body covered in a rotten smell that might make one puke their guts out, but none in this room cared about it.

The Church of Red Sun was the closest to death, to them, this smell was as natural as the smell of flowers. "... Even though the possibility of another revival is farfetched at the moment, her soul never entered the cycle." Commented the Archbishop of the End.

The news that was coming out was disappointing. Never have they ever suffered such a humiliating defeat in their life. Not to mention, the man who did this seemed to be pretty active in the seas.

"We have become lethargic since our interactions with the Prophets... they can’t be depended on, not anymore." The failures of the prophets in the last century had been apparent in their eyes. A force that claims neutrality, but they have sided with countless powers multiple times throughout history to achieve their agenda.

Though I don’t think this collaboration of the present was the norm, just five hundred years ago, the prophets were one of the most annoying enemies of the Church of Red Sun, and it’s only due to certain circumstances that the two parties had joined hands.

Which did give the Church of Red Sun an edge over the "escapees". But that had died down since the last hundred years had been anything but normal.

"Heliarch, I present the suggestion on how to deal with Malidi Riktor." A young voice spoke among the old, his face rosy and his body thin as a stick, a new archbishop that had risen to the ranks recently and obviously not from Brihma due to his fair skin that didn’t seem to adapt to the heat of Brihma.

The Pope gleamed at the table, his eyes looking at the boy who carried both death and life inside his body at once. A unique one that can access the strength of Both Dusk and the Dawn knight. Also deemed a Chosen of the Church.

As for his name. "Archbishop Francois, speak of the idea."

"The immortal thing is his body, but his spirit is not immortal... as long as we can force him to enter the realm of gods with his true body, the angels can purify him without an issue, leaving only the body behind."

His words were not loud, but they seemed to contain a level of influence causing the bishops in the room to turn to look at him and then say. "Are you stupid?"
