Chapter 662: 10.03.4 Gonna woo some monsters.

Watching their small armada drift apart from each other with each ship going its own way, I got a certain level of understanding that the friend I had made was not so simple, his enemies were fascinating, and from what I had been able to obtain from the minds of the little ones on the ship, their destination seemed somewhat.

’Fateful.’ Were the gods wishing to see me in conflict with that bunch, or were they interested in watching my future friend take his revenge? Well, whatever the case was I won’t disappoint you, not for now at least.

Going back to the ship, even before the potion might have had any effect on the second in command of the ship, something interesting happened. "He killed himself." The captain spoke, finding the situation surprising with a hint of disappointment. "So he was guilty." He spoke, causing the people around him to turn silent as they looked at the second in command.

This felt anti-climatic but expected considering their captain had this man under his eyes all the time, so escaping or making any random suspicious moves was outright impossible. Leaving only one possible choice for him if he wished to escape from the horrific torture his Captain loved to force upon his captives.

"A coward..." Wajih spoke, as his eyes turned toward me. I won’t be releasing you... for now." It didn’t take long before a new Second in command was chosen, who just happened to be the husband of the Mystic woman.

While the rest were asked to check the body of this man thoroughly.

As for why not free me? The answer was obvious if one were to think about, the potion that the man drunk probably had some issues with it, and with no bottle to find its traces and understand what was mixed in it, they had no way to know its side effects.

This means there was a chance for me to take advantage of their weakness, or so would anyone with basic common sense think in the face of a stranger like me. So was the case here.

While entering his room, Wajih appeared a bit sad. "Hah, he was a good kid." It was disappointing to see someone as useful as his left-hand man die, but what could be done in this case? "Keep him to the side." He ordered his men while giving a glance towards the technicians, who carried a hint of fear. This made Wajih shout at them to go back to work, but his mind had already wandered off for a bit.

’The chances, coincidences... no whatever it is, the answers will be obvious eventually.’ With him alone in the room, a small blade flew out of clothes, which Wajih gently held in his hand and made incisions over the body, dividing it into proper and clean cuts without harming any bone or organs.

"As I suspected." There it was, a small time bomb hidden inside this body, if he hadn’t acted early on, this body might have exploded into a poisonous balloon killing many on the ship, though it wouldn’t have done anything to him. ’Should have added this before coming here... otherwise such contraptions might have exploded beforehand during our activities before.’

’There are others in his contact, many might be in my guild, hiding, bidding their time.’

’But how many?... Who was he working for?’ Bit by bit, this old good friend of his was taken apart, the things he deemed useless were sucked dry of their blood, though the things that made him curious were fiddled for a bit longer.

’What a fascinating creature, so many internal restrictions, physical ones and not through contract, a dead man.’ Such people were born to die for their lord and were generally considered only legends among the nobles, but Wajih who had been on the battlefield for decades, had come across such beings countless times.

’No wonder he passed the test but was still subservient to his masters.’

As for who they were? The answer was obvious if one were to put the two and two together.

Crushing the arm in his hand to a pulp. ’I had been played with.’ That family, those bastards treated him like a fool, The majority of the information that family received came from the mouth that was kept on the right side of the table currently dried off any blood. ’Good... very good.’

Few understood the anger he was feeling at the moment, a kind of anger that would burn entire cities if it were to burst, but Wajih kept it inside his mind.

’Regulate your breathing, the effects of what I have drunk should be coming soon.’ Was it poison? No, if it was his biological defenses would have already fought it off. So was it harmful to the body? No again for the very same reason.

There is no liquid that would have such delayed effects that he won’t notice.

So what was it? Well, the answer came to him in a few minutes. "Hmm." Normal humans might not notice this smell, but Wajih did. ’Just this?’ He wondered, confused for a bit before shaking his head.

’All it does is confirm the facts further... My strength hasn’t been affected, I will be able to deal with that shapeshifter.’

Coming out of his room with a small bag containing the dried-up remains of his old friend, Wajih gently threw it into the seas while he walked across the ship and came face to face with me. "Well, you were correct." With those words, the cage came down, and I sprawled on the shipboard while taking in a deep breath. "You know how hard it was to breathe in that thing?"

"Get up." Ordered Wajih, with the spiky little swords pointed at my body. It didn’t seem he was the kind to joke, so I got up while binding my broken bones using my muscles. An easy feat for a shapeshifter like me.

Or so one would think. "Ouch." Seems like memories recorded really don’t translate well to first-hand experience, most of my practice with this body had gone down the drains, making it harder for me to control the little things unlike before. But no worries, all I need in a few weeks to adapt again.

"Come with me." He took me to a room that seemed clean, unexpected if I have to say it. Wasn’t it just a butcher room not too long ago?

"I have to thank you for saving me and taking out the mole, so I owe you for a bit," Wajih spoke his gaze never leaving my body. "But I can’t trust you due to the circumstances we met, so I would have to refuse whatever job you require me of."

"But I am a just man, I will ensure to let you return to the mainland as long as you don’t cause any problems for us during our activity." This was the concession he could come up with.

To his eyes, this bizarre little dwarf, who might not even be a dwarf was obviously intending to exploit him in a way that might lead to his end. And that is not something Wajih can allow.

He prides himself on taking the perfect contracts with the highest profits for his men, so he can’t be greedy or foolish now when the circumstances are so bizarre.

"This will be troublesome... but from what I understand, it’s not a complete denial, it’s just what I offered was not much in your eyes."

I spoke, taking in a deep breath and asking. "I wonder if you are aware that you smell at the moment."

Hearing those words, Wajih was not that startled. "Effects of the potion, either to track me or to use in a compound poison." An understandable conclusion to come to, even if it was false. This is why Wajih was not too scared as he had taken care of the trouble with my help mind you.

So it won’t be long before this smell disappears.

But there was an issue you see, compound poison capable of taking out a Grandmaster was rarer than finding a beautiful human girl that would like a dwarf like me. So how did anyone on the ship brought?

Well, that too was understandable considering it might be those enemies of Wajih that might use the other part of the compound poison. But even that, there were enough of them to use group tactics in defeating Wajih, why use something as expensive as a compound poison?

As for tracking? Wasn’t their position already tracked?

This man might appear smart in certain places, but in others, his mind didn’t bother to think too deeply.

"Why are you laughing?" He asked, looking at my dastardly smirk.

To which I replied. "I know now, you will probably end up helping me."

"... what is this potion?"

"Simply, some pheromones of a specific sea creature... you, sir, were also treated as a bait more than an enemy to kill."
