Chapter 62: 2.16.3 Exposed.

It was impossible to hide this fight, with the gunshots that rang through the city, magic blasts and clashes of sword against metallic armor was audible to most people. Even those that lived close by, left their home and ran in the opposite direction of the fight, after they noticed the magical powers at war here.

Most people might not be acclimated to magic and hence stand no chance against them. But they were knowledgeable enough to know what to do when they came across any fights of this level.

That was to run and ask for help.

It was why the Knights of Radiance had to act efficiently and they didn’t pursue the broken bleeding body of Kairut that flew away from them.

There were too many eyes and not enough places to hide. So they had to act in moderation and take a loss when they faced one.

And besides, losing Kairut was not that big of a deal to them. It would have been good if they caught him, but there was no need to pursue him when he escaped from their entrapment.

The reason for it was also simple.

"They were here."

Going back a few minutes back, the two Knights by the name of Aakif and Turfa, who were in reality brothers, walked into the house from which Kairut walked out of. And before long, they found the entrance to the sewer.

They might not have a strong nose like Remira nor could they match her in the tracking department which was brought on by the fusion of her original blood and the blood of Radiance. But they were still trained in tracking techniques, like most knights and hence were able to feel the "air flow" in the basement.

Which made it easier for them to find it.

"There were more, two entered and just one left." Turfa said, looking around the room, finding traces of none other than Pansar.

Causing him to put his arm on the sword, while his brother Aafik nodded to him and slowly opened the door leading to the sewer.

"It truly is the sewers." There was nothing, just a ladder tha led to the sewers below. Besides the bad smell that is.

"I will be checking for traps." Walking right into the enemy’s den is a foolish thing to do. But as it happens, that was just what these two were trained for. They might appear to be only adept level knights. But together they can even take down their captain, who was currently leading the operation.

Which was why, leaving the two on their own devices was not too odd, as they had the strength and training to back up the belief their captain had for them.

"I will be going ahead." Aafik told his brother while taking out a small bag filled with enchanted bone powder, made by the mystics of Radiance society and when spread over an area would expose the magical traps that might be hidden from their eyes.

Though, there is a need for how much this powder is used, as it’s an item that exposes the traps by activating their magical energy powering them. And if enough of it is used at a time, it might just activate them. Meaning, the amount of bone powder used here mattered a lot.

So Aafik threw some of it in the air and saw something that surprised him.

"Nothing?"

There was nothing at the entrance, so without worry, he descended down followed by his brother.

With each step, he would spread some of the powder in the air, checking for any traps. But no matter what he did, nothing came up.

It was just a bad smell and oddly enough, a lack of rats.

This whole area felt empty to them, as if there was nothing, not one living being.

Even the insects that usually hid in the walls were nowhere to be seen.

Which surprised the two.

The traps not being present here can be ignored. Who knows if it was a temporary meeting place used by Kairut and whoever he came out with. Hence the lack of traps.

But if that was the case, why are there no rats? They were the very essence of a city’s sewer.

"It’s odd, this whole place feels weird." Being trained to deal with irregularities throughout their whole life, noticing any oddities became an instinct to the Knights. It was why their guard went up, wondering what it would be to scare all these rats.

"Whatever it is, we will kill it.’ Turfa was unlike his brother, he was not calm or sophisticated and was only good at one thing.

Which was to hunt and kill the enemies.

But it didn’t mean he was completely useless besides those things. While moving ahead, Turfa put his hand on his brother’s back and pointed toward a wall.

Which was also the point that Aafik noticed the oddity.

’The color of the walls didn’t match properly.’

Seeing the bag of enchanted bone powder was lighter than before, Aafik knew that going any further in the enemy territory would be foolish.

But before that could happen, they finally had a lead.

Banging the hilt of the sword against the wall, Turfa listened deeply and said to his brother. "It’s hollow."

For hollow walls like this, there should have been a hidden switch that would activate the mechanism in the door. But there was no such time for it and besides the danger of clicking something wrong ws also ever present.

Which was why Aafik took out a small explosive from his bag and stuck three of them to the wall in a triangular formation.

And after seeing that his brother was armed and ready, he exploded the wall.

Expecting a fight or even more traps that might have been triggered due to their explosive entrance.

But there was nothing.

Turfa wa firs to enter and he saw nothing more than a table and chair, along with another gate, which when opened blasted them with putrid smell of rot. "Its the rats." Aafik said, hurriedly closing the door.

"The chairs are warm, it was not long since they left. There should be another hidden passageway."

The two tried and tried, but found nothing at all. Which surprised them.

They were so close, they were so close to success. But somehow, it would seem the enemies were a step ahead of them and had already left the area.

"Teleportation, there was a powerful mage who came here." Thi was the only conclusion they could come up with.

There were no signs of any teleportation circles drawn, meaning to leave this room, someone powerful had used a teleportation spell directly.

"Again... this is the third time." Tuurfa cursed while kicking the table which exploded into splinters against the wall.

While his brother feeling the same disappointment took a calmer approach.

"We should leave, the vibrations from above have stopped. There should be police coming." At those words, Turfa sighed while sheathing his sword and took the lead while exiting the broken entrance.

"There is nothing to be disappointed brother... This proves why we were not getting much results on the surface. The ones above are probably just a front, their real hideout is probably hidden somewhere in the sewers." Aafik explained, looking at the sewers and finding just how useful they can be.

If one can handle the smell and the rodents, this place man made underground roadways that extend throughout the city.

"But the captain would be disappointed."

"That is indeed true, he would be disappointed."

The two walked along the walls while never putting down their guard.

Though they didn’t move the way they came from, no. From their understanding, the way back might already be filled with police or even worse, the paranormal police.

Meeting whom would close to a suicide. It was why while walking along the sewer, they were looking for a new entrance.

"This one?"

Turfa, being at front, pointed toward the manhole, but his brother shook his head. "The farther away from the battle site, the better." There was a high chance of police presence in the area around the site, and any suspicious activity there would surely be noticed by them. Even the passer-bys that were on edge due to the fight would surely shout out about suspicious individuals like them the moment their eyes fell on the two brothers, who hid swords in their cloaks and looked suspicious no matter where they were.

So the two kept moving and finally found some traces of rats in the sewer. Making it appear as if the sewer was turning normal.

And when his eyes fell on these rats, Aafik spoke"I wonder why they killed the rats." Aafik was curious over what drove the Blue Lotus to do such a bizarre thing.

"Might be, to clean up the place for their living."

"This is sewers, no place is actually clean. There should be other reasons why they did it."

"Why can’t the sewers be cleaned?" Tufar put his finger on a wall then made a swiping motion, easily taking off the algae that had grown on the walls.

"See, it’s as easy as this."

An action that exposed something hidden beneath the algae, and even though Aafik was originally not going to look at it, being behind his brother, its eyes inadvertently fell on this exposed part of the wall.

A wall on which runes and text of alien nature appeared to be written.

"Brother scrap it all off."

It was at this point that one of Blue Lotus’ core parts of their plan was exposed to an enemy party.
