Chapter 596: 9.10.3 Go away.

There were no lies in the soldier’s words. Farhad was currently under their jurisdiction and any action on his end will look bad upon them. So they can’t allow him to harm anyone, specifically the Radiant who were fellow compatriots of theirs after the recent alliance was formed.

This is why they brought out the eel, a small eel that appeared harmless to most, but the moment it appeared, Farhad backed off for a bit. "I... that is useless. I..." Farhad paused, looking toward the injured Remira, before saying. "I don’t intend to harm her."

This eel might seem harmless, which in truth it was. But it’s the power that this eel held that made others shiver. "I am just ensuring you don’t make a wrong move." The general spoke, looking at Remira and slowly explaining. "This eel carries a curse... though only living for a few days after becoming the carrier of the curse, the slime it generates makes you feel disgusted... absolute disgust."

The slime didn’t carry any curse energy but somehow was able to retain the effect of Disgust from the eel, though only for a while, so one needed to carry the eel at all times with them if they planned to use it.

As for why not directly use the curse? That was not possible with Farhad’s body and the flame it carried, burning up the curse and rendering it useless. So this was the perfect way to deal with Farhad without causing any real harm.

’He fears this?’ She can see the curse in the eel, a small curse that can burn with a simple swipe of her hand. But Farhad, a monster that could go toe to toe with her feared this small eel or the disgust it carried.

"General Lawar, there is no need for this... we are old friends just having disagreements." She spoke, supporting Farhad. "And I would like if you give us a bit of space. I don’t intend to harm him, nor he will harm me... not anymore." The monstrous look of Farhad was long gone, though still curved in dark skin, Farhad had gone back to his human self, doing the bare minimum to protect himself from the sun.

And the General after hearing this, fell into a bit of contemplation. It would be foolish to act like he didn’t know what these two were talking about, he can see the closeness and the lack of hatred between the two.

Although he had his suspicions over a Radiant Knight appearing so reasonable in front of a being like Farhad. Due to the soft tone, Remira used at this point, he ended up agreeing. "Just a suggestion, keep some distance in case things don’t go well." He spoke, giving Farhad a warning of his own end, before backing off for a bit, though he didn’t forget to stand close by in case Farhad attempted something foolish again.

Though if there was a foolish one here, it would be Remira. But Farhad, after coming close to killing Remira turned mute. I found it hard to say anything once the general was gone.

That is why Remira spoke first. "Let me say this first... I am sorry for before." She said something that had been in her heart for a while. Until now, she had made many mistakes and caused misery on a greater scale just because she thought what she was doing was the right thing.

It was the case of paving the road to hell with her good intentions. Although she didn’t wish for it, she had caused great harm to the world. A harm much greater than the man she considered dangerous, Farhad.

She has no right to be so righteous. "An apology" Farhad hearing this appeared confused and finally broke open. "Why apologize? You never did anything wrong. I on the other hand... I have killed people. Many people, people just protecting their country, people just poor enough to do bad things... I... I have eaten them, the taste, the feeling. No one needs to apologize... not you... not anyone else."

Farhad was in an unstable state of mind, the word "apology" alone triggered his guilt. The suppressed thought the taste he was forced to suppress after learning that the taste receptors were not only on his tongue but in many parts of his mutant body.

He can’t remember what normal food tastes like, how the air smells, or even what it feels like to touch someone without harming them.

His body had turned into an abomination, a monstrous amalgam of dangerous mutations that self-replicate and assimilate any weak flesh that comes into contact with him.

Remira didn’t know, no one knew what he had suffered through, what he had done. And how much he regrets not being with Jester since the start.

A kind of instability that Remira had long noticed. "I can understand why you are envious of the life you would have led with Jester and I don’t blame you. I blame myself for never giving you a kinder option. I kept threatening to kill and hunt you. Treating you as his lackey and pushing you away just like the rest of the Knights."

"Which is wrong... what I did to you was wrong.’ She spoke, looking towards the Soldiers in the distance.

While Farhad, hearing these words didn’t know what to feel like.

He remembers the day after he was found with his father’s dead body and how the Knights treated him. They appeared curious, fearful, and greedy at the same time.

The men he used to call uncle once, the men who used to play with him in his youth now treated him as military property. Not like he had any expectations of being treated anyway else. His life had been pretty bad since it turned out he had no talent on the path of transcendence.

Then out of fear due to the pranks Jester played, he made the mistake and went to the Radiant Order, who treated him pretty much the same. Though far harsher if he thinks about it.

There was coldness, from the Radiant order, as well as Remira. He was never part of them, but a carrier of flames to some, or a burden to others. Barely anyone treated him like a human.

"Why apologize... I am a monster, not human." He spoke his voice turning slow and heavy all of a sudden. He didn’t know why, but his head felt heavy at this moment.

"If you are a monster, then me and all other transcendent beings are the same. We abandon humanity once we choose to walk on this incorrigible path. That’s the price we pay when we walk this path."

There is a saying among all those that deal with the study of souls. The spirit of a transcendent being is always doomed. No matter how kind and good a person you are, once you abandon your humanity, you will never have a kind life after death.

What did it mean? Remira never understood it only until recently.

"And I am not just the same on the monster part... have you heard of the disaster in Rudrain recently?.... I was there as well." These were words that Remira never wanted to say, but she still spoke of her experiences, the other monsters she found there, and another one of Jester’s creations.

"Things happen Farhad, this path we walk is paved on deaths. That’s who we are, you don’t need to keep thinking of what might have been... but, I can see the struggle on your face." Remira spoke and then turned to look at the Soldiers again who had been listening to their conversation, some ever appearing surprised by the topics that Remira spoke about. Specifically, the situation in Rudrain had been suppressed by the majority of the world out of shame.

Which did seem the effect that she had been expecting.

"Which is why I say, go inside. Do what you plan to do here... see where it leads you. The choice is in your hands." As she spoke Farhad turned stunned for a bit.

From the start, he had expected she would try to stop him from joining or helping Jester. But suddenly what changed?

He wondered, though before he could process the whole information in his mind. A shout came as the soldiers rushed to the scene thinking that Farhad might escape from the scene. "Knight Remira, I expected more from you... not this." He spoke showing some disappointment before turning to Farhad and taking out the eel. "And Farhad, don’t make any stupid moves, there is nothing here to hide, each of us carries an eel-like this, you can imagine what will happen once you are found." The General threatened.

Though Farhad barely let his words register in his mind. He stopped and started to reconsider why Remira would let him go, why allow this?

And after thinking for a while, he remembered her apology and her acceptance of her own guilt. Followed by him suddenly jumping from the ground and like a bat, entering the cave at a supersonic speed that created shockwaves in the air.

"What?" The soldiers followed, trying to enter the same cave as him. But Remira came in front of them saying. "Going inside is inviting death."
