Chapter 59: 2.15.5 The secret is out.
"Thi...wha?" Confused and baffled. Calvin touched his face, then his body. Before turning to look toward the morgue’s door, which remained closed at the moment.
"A nightmare, Rookie?" Hearing such words, Calvin turned towards his senior, whose name he didn’t know. But shaking his head.
"No, no, it felt real. I feel the pain.’ Calvin was in shock, he shivered while recalling the harrowing experience in his dream. He still felt as if the rats were crawling on his body, biting at them and screaming in his ears in ecstasy.
"Rookie, I told you beforehand to sleep properly during the day." The older soldier shook his head as he headed to the rookie with his normal smile.
"Now, if you want to rest. You can. But don’t forget to hold your weapon with your all the time." He said, assuring Calvin that he might just had a nightmare, while handing him the gun that Calvin dropped not too long ago.
"Th.. Thank you." Calvin didn’t know what was real or not, but for now. There were no rats around nor did his senior seemed as crazy as he saw in the dream.
So he tried taking the gun from his senior’s hand. But to his surprise, he couldn’t.
And when lifting his head to see what his senior is doing. All he saw was two palms around his senior’s neck.
While he tried to speak.
"Hel..." But no sound came out, as the grip on his neck got tighter. Making Calvin, who was still reeling in from the images of his dreams, to back off. Abandoning the gun while crying. "WH... what is going on?" Calvin tried to look toward the figure hiding behind his senior’s back.
While his senior kept pleading "Sa..ve m..." As his life slowly left his body, causing the eyes to pop out.
And then.
"Spewif"
The very hands that were suffocating his senior split apart in glory, holding pieces of flesh in them.
As for his senior, he fell down trying to hold the hole in his neck, but his hand had no energy. Causing him to die, confused over what just happened.
While Clavin.
Calvin can now clearly see the figure of the person that just killed his senior. Whose eyes, dark red eyes, sent shiver’s down Calvin’s spine.
And before he knew it, Calvin felt his head getting light, as he lost unconsciousness out of pure fear.

In the underground sewers, below the Gorki district. Vanessa was surprised to learn that a man she had treated as an enemy in her heart, had come to meet her on his own. Wishing to become part of Blue Lotus on his own.
It was why, after some thought, she chose to meet up with this man on her own. This was the least she could do as an archmage level figure herself.
So she gave out the order to bring Kairut to one of her bases. And then reached there at the fastest time possible.
"I never expected Sir Kairut Lucien to lower himself to our level. I heard you caused a scene in the house of one of our important members?"
"Just to assure you, that member of yours won’t have any life threatening problems due to it. The neurotoxin I used was non-lethal and only subsisted in the body of an individual for three hours at maximum." Kairut smiled, while showing off the little beetle that took down a master mage on its own.
"But I still can’t overlook the fact that you harmed one of our own." Vanessa made a hardened face, before shaking her head with a helpless sigh. "But as a gesture of goodwill, I pardon you of your offense."
I appreciate your kindness madam?..."
"Its Vanessa, Vanessa Bullworth." Hearing such a name, Kairut thought harder for a second. But such a name never came up in his memory.
"A wonderful name Miss Vanessa." Kairut complimented the old woman who appeared to be around her sixties. Which made her smile a bit.
"Now, as the introduction is over. I will start with the topic." Vanessas smiling face turned seniors, as she asked. "I wonder, what kind of information do you have on that King of Rats."
The king of rats moniker was something that Kairut had only recently learned from Calindi, the one who acted as the recruiter for Blue Lotus.
Though, he didn’t find the name that odd, considering how the Jester’s ability to control the rats.
Not to mention, the smell Jester leaves in his room whenever he meets him in his dreams.
Making the name Rat King, truly suit him.
"Before speaking of it, I wish for your promise. I want the knowledge that gave Adam the ability to retain his memory.’ Kairut put forward his first condition. He was taking a big chance with his current actions. Even walking right into a trap was worth it if he can get the same ability as Adam.
On the other hand, Vanessa was surprised after learning that Kairut was aware of Adam and his little secret that only few in the organization knew about.
"So we expected correct, you were working with that rat king a lot closer than we had previously assumed." Vanessa smiled at this point, she can see that the Rat King’s intention of telling Kairut such details meant that Rat king was really planning something weird.
Though, as he is under a contract, he would still have to work under its constraints.
But wasn’t one of the constraints to never tell anyone else about the whole deal?
Which made Vanessa curious over what the Rat King had stored for them, while also thinking how Rat king was able to break one of the conditions so easily, without them ever noticing.
"Close, I won’t consider it that. He fooled me by exploiting my desperation and promises of a longer life. And by the time I learned how limited he was by this immortality, it was already too late" Kairut cursed. No one knew how much he had regretted his past decision.
Even the night he learned that Blue Lotus really possessed a method to retain their past life’s memories. He had felt as if the Jester was mocking him.
It was also the day, the seeds of betrayal took root in his heart.
"Which is why I am here... I am ready to provide my services in return for knowledge."
"Your reasoning is sound, Sir Kairut. But before I say anything, I want to ask." Vanessa hunched down toward her guest while she asked. "Are you still under Jester’s contract?"
"Yes, for now." Kairut spoke with some uncertainty.
It was due to Jester’s disappearance from the city that the power of contract weakened, giving Kairut the chance to act as he had wanted to do. But this was temporary and he knew it better than anyone.
He can feel the existence of Jester in his heart. He didn’t know where he was or why he disappeared. But in part of his heart, as long as the contracts subsist, no matter how weak. There was a chance of a comeback.
And from his experience he understood that day is not far off.
"Now, that is somewhat problematic." Hearing Kairuts answer, Vanessa struggled a bit.
Truth be told, she didn’t want Kairut, no matter the might he wields. He was a servant of a powerful manipulator. And depending on the contract, Kairut might not even know if his actions are his own.
Which is why Vanessa struggled.
But she still needs to know what the Rat king was planning. So, although she knows she might come to regret it later.
"I will provide you with half the knowledge, the rest would be given to you after this is all over."
With those words, the contract between the two parties was established, with Vanessa giving half to the promised information that he so wanted.
"I fulfilled my end of the bargain."
"Yes, and I won’t put off my own."
With those words, Kairut smiled as he said. "It’s all about that little kid from my academy, the one that died."
Kairut explained. "But before I continue, let me say this. This is what I came to understand from my meetings with Jester. He never did say anything clearly, always leaving me with more questions than answers."
"But when it came to that kid, he would always break his farce a bit." At those words, the eyes of Vanessa lit up.
Though, before she could confirm anything, Vanessa asked for some clarification. "Who is this child you are speaking of?"
Hearing that question Kairut went silent for a while. "I... i can’t say it. That part of the contract still stops me from naming that kid."
"But know this, I don’t truly know what Jester is planning, but that kid is probably at the center of it."
In truth, there was never a need for Kairut to speak the name of that kid. For Vanessa knew who Kairut was speaking off.
Which gave her the edge she needed against a being that loves to mess up the minds of others.
