Chapter 569: 9.05.1 Anomalies afoot.
The world is unpredictable, rarely would things ever go your way.
Rosso’s pursuit of Malidi had brought him to varied places. It had forced him to meet even weirder people and most of the time, it was far harder for Rosso to ever succeed in what he wanted too easily.
What was the issue? Rosso wondered while looking at the collapsed little girl below him. A girl he protected using his eye of melancholy, though it did leave him weak. "I am tired." Spoke Rosso while getting up from Mini’s body and then turning to look at the island below him.
The majority of his mosquitoes were taken out, but so were the pirates who tried to put up a resistance against these mosquitoes. They were feeble and weak, including their captain. His next steps were predictable at this moment. He was going to feed on the surviving island folks and then leave this place.
His reasoning was also very simple. The little interactions he had while working with others didn’t leave a good taste in his mouth. When there are others in your group with their own goals and intentions, it’s far harder for you to focus on your goal clearly.
A case in point is his interaction with Jester’s followers in Rudrain. They had dragged him down instead of giving him his answer from the start. Not to mention, the current people who claim to be Team One—he can’t trust them so easily at this point. ’I need to end it fast.’ There was little time left for his Creator. It won’t be long before his Creator is truly far gone in the truest sense, so he needs to act fast.
As fast as he can in the current situation when things might derail all his goals in a single sweep if he didn’t act fast.
So a massacre began on the island. When Rosso first descended from the island, he found the places a bit different than what he had expected, there was a small village hidden in this island with mortals living there.
There was even a place of worship, obviously not of some totem, but of the spirits that were symbolized by an arch built of bones of what appeared to be animals as well as humans.
But it would be wrong for Rosso to look down on their culture for what he intended to do. "I apologize." He spoke to the sleeping mortals who didn’t suffer the suppression of the dragon fear as much as the rest of the transcended did. It was their weakness that freed them from the actual danger, only sending them to sleep.
Which did make Rosso’s job far easier. "Feed me and ascend to a different kinder life." He spoke words that his Creator had instilled in him since his creation. It was the mantra to go by in a world with reincarnation.
Death loses meaning at a certain level, things also become easier just like killing did for Rosso. His first victim, he killed by hand, then the rest, he killed using the small mosquitoes he summoned, which not only killed the sleeping mortals, but they also sucked their vitality and drained them till they became a husks in their sleep.
Which started a feeding frenzy on the island.
However, when Rosso reached the biggest house, he did find some movements. "Mo.. monster!!" Spoke a weak voice unable to move, but this voice had seen everything that happened in his village. And now this very voice protects two children and a woman behind him.
Obviously his family.
"You, one of the pirates?" Rosso didn’t like the term Monster so much, which is why he chose to entertain this man. A man who didn’t have any special blood or any curse energy, but for some reason, he had been able to retain his consciousness after experiencing Dragon fear.
’A Voodoo Warrior.’ The man was bulky, unlike the villagers Rosso had fed on till now. He was bigger and carried a trace of corruption that only his eye of insight might have seen, but due to the poison in his blood which suppressed his healing, the eye of insight still hasn’t recovered till now.
But Rosso believed, after this feast, things might go back to normal, and he would be able to do a few more things than possible before.
"So what if I am?" The man spoke in some fear, before calming down and saying. "I... leave my family alone, you can feed on me if you want.’ There was some struggle at the end of the beginning, but as he reached the end of his sentence, the fear dissipated and only courage remained.
Which did surprise Rosso, who expected a different scene to play out here. "You are not begging for your life?"
"The moment you asked about my identity, I knew my end was here. So why bother." Although appearing barbaric in the eyes of the settlers and merchants, these pirates were far smarter than they appeared on the surface.
Or at least this one was on case he might be the village chief here, hence him being smart was not that surprising.
’Voodoo, the bunch that sacrifice lives of others to gain greater strength... someone similar to me.’ It would be hypocritical for Rosso to consider these beings wrong after what he had done.
But Rosso was also not delusional. He had done evil, and so did this man in front of him. Both don’t deserve to live after the misery they have brought to this world. Both don’t deserve any sympathy or mercy of any kind.
"This small conversation had been pretty enlightening," Rosso spoke to the man, finally understanding something about this world and himself in the process. "Sadly I can’t give you what you want... enjoy the afterlife with your family," Rosso spoke, his hands dropping down over the horrified face of the Voodoo warrior.
He did struggle at first, but with his feeble strength, he could only give into the grip of Rosso who tightly clenched his palm over the man’s face, digging deeper into his flesh and then draining him of his blood and vitality.
As for his family, their death was far kinder. Unlike others, where Rosso drained them alive, for this man’s family, Rosso first chose to twist their necks personally, before letting his mosquitoes feast on them.
"It worked, my eye is back." And by the time Rosso was done with the chief’s house, his eyesight was back to full capacity.
This meant his head turned towards the other part of the island, which was also the base for pirates and their fortress. "Hopefully I will be done before those people arrive here." With those words, Rosso activated the Curse of Isolation and disappeared from the world.
Which began a massacre, that only left three survivors by the end.
*******
"Malidi, can you hear me?" How long has it been in his small cave? I didn’t know truth be told. To retain the little energy I had, I kept my activities at a minimum, awakening at certain intervals before contacting Malidi, who never replied.
Well, until now that is. "... Your disturbance annoying. Speak at once." His words also seem to be broken, almost childish, but his intelligence was something none can rival in this world. So I didn’t mind it as much as others would be.
Not to mention, I needed him."I desire your help, I have been betrayed by him." There was no need to speak of the details here, Malidi knew who I was speaking of, for I had been warned by him before.
"I warned before. A proper vessel with no hatred towards you should have been a priority. Now you suffer the consequences for your mistakes." Said the voice on the other side in a hurried state. Before going silent and then continuing. "Enslaved? Imprisoned? Sealed? Controlled?"
Though the four options sounded similar, the meaning behind them was far different. "Number two, though the rest might follow suit. I have at most a couple of months of sanity left."
"..." There was a long pause for a bit, a pause that did make me expect a particular answer.
"Sad. Had a year or two, I could save... sad!" Spoke to the man on the other side, which did cause my mood to drop. "Stuck in the caves? I can send some others your way."
"Impossible to survive... world too weak, contemporary transcendent even weaker. Only anomalies would come as deep as me." At the mention of anomalies, I had to go quiet.
Anomalies were unnatural beings that shouldn’t exist in nature for one reason or another. But it’s this oddity that gives them a higher level of tolerance for the corruption that existed in the forbidden zones.
And I was one of them, not first, but definitely the most famous if I might say so.
But in this current state, it’s far harder for me to move on my own. I am incapable of doing too much. Meaning I have to find others.
Those that will listen to me.
Those that wish to escape from me.
And those that wish to end me.
Which did bring three names to my head.
"I have some idea, will be sending in rescue in a while."
