Chapter 558: 9.02.1 The voodoo master.

Amir wanted to witness war. He saw the islands, and although under the heavy storm, it was harder to make out any details, he could feel something bad waiting for him, something hidden from afar.

"Be ready." He spoke, inching ever closer to one of the largest islands. However, the moment Amir’s ship arrived within a kilometer radius of Vercano Island, a light glowed for a second, followed by a small projectile that fell a bit too close to Amir’s liking. "Canons?" Although considered antiquated weapons by a long shot, they were still widely used in ocean warfare, because generally, there were no better alternatives, unless you were walking the path of magic or old artifact-level weapons.

Though it didn’t decrease their lethality in the slightest, the weight, as well as momentum, were capable of denting the armor on the metal ships easily, and if they were any closer, the canon might have done more than just a dent.

Of course, Amir might have thought as such, but the captain of the ship didn’t have such ideas. "They are testing us, man the ship, we will be rushing." The canon from before was only fired for testing purposes, probably to test the waters and the angle they should be firing. Which did appear to be true considering the volley that was fired soon after.

But with the timely action of the captain, they were able to survive the first volley of the canons, though the shockwaves from the splashes did cause the ship to tumble up and down for a bit. "They have already started it?" Amir wondered, looking toward the island at a distance and then at the man who was not too far from him and who seemed to be enjoying the frantic chaos of the war that had just broken out.

"They know we are not some simple merchant shit." There were no weapons on the ship on the surface. Even the sailors who manned the ship wore mostly civilian clothes, with the only way to distinguish them would be the armband they wore.

Each armband carries a different color that specifies the hierarchy as well as the job. While the rest of the soldiers and mages mostly stayed below deck, they didn’t plan on keeping up the act, part of the Knights were already equipping their MAAS armors with the help of the engineers, while the mages that came with them, were also considering joining in on the upcoming fun.

"Let them know it, it’s not like that will change anything." Amir also didn’t mind if his intentions were somehow grasped by the enemies, he just gave an order and the ship inched toward his enemies.

However once the momentum was established in the seas, it became far harder for the ship to dodge the cannonballs.

But that was not an issue for him as well.

There was Hemant as well as another soldier given to him by his grandfather, both at Master ranked, though far stronger than the knights below.

And their job is simple as well.

*boom, as the canon came and tried to hit the ship, Hemant jumped up and deflected the canon away with a single punch. His bloodline was Blackgold Serpent, one of the totems that didn’t belong to any churches, but were directly under a contractual relationship with the Royal family. Where the Royals would provide them regular sacrifices in return for providing their men with the blood for the Knighthood ceremony.

Which is how Hemant acquired his blood. A lot similar to the man next to him.

Going by the name of Blue Kid, the man trained with Hemant in his youth and was chosen by Deimos’s personality to walk the path of Knight.

Their job was in Deimo’s private military, with Hemant leaving partway to work for their Master’s Grandson.

"You are stronger than before..." Blue Kid spoke, finding that Hemant’s movements were sleeker than the last time they fought together.

Mind you, in a way these two can be considered brothers due to the blood they shared. Considering how they grew up together, one can see that they were close to each other and hence aware of each other’s limits.

"Certain things forced me to reconsider the direction of my training," Hemant answered without hiding a thing.

It was no mystery to Blue Kid over what happened to Hemant a few years ago. The injuries he sustained and what his master had to sacrifice to save him. Which did end up establishing Amir as a good master in Blue Kid’s mind, but that was it. He would judge the character of this child on his own and wouldn’t fall for the words of his Brother so easily.

"Well, let’s see if your new techniques are better than the ones I learned from master." The Blackgold Snake was infamous for his high endurance and defense. Any Knights carrying this blood were renowned for their high durability hence making them perfect frontliners.

One might even call them the Perfect shields for their master.

"I knew it, knew it knew it KNEW IT!!"

"They came, they came to look for our gods, they came to harm him."

"We must end him." Spoke a man in dark robes, overlooking the small war that was approaching them from the horizon.

Not far from him was the leader of this island, Captain Loovo Berna, who just scoffed internally as he looked at the crazed Voodoo priest who cried like an animal. But what could he do? He needed this priest, as not all his men were lucky enough to hold a bloodline.

And if one were to loot on these treacherous waters you need strength more than you need the men. Which is where Voodoo priests come into play.

They were beings capable of cultivating evil spirits which then could be used to birth Voodoo warriors the best among whom held the strength of the masters.

Of course, the one priest in his hand was not such a well-known Voodoo Master, although old and experienced, he was limited by talent, barely capable of bringing the strength of his men to apprentice level after sacrificing who knows how many lives.

Some of which he found pitiful, but what is done can’t be taken back. Not to mention, Loovo himself felt a level of fear from this Priest even though he was a Grandmaster ranked Knight himself.

The reason, he didn’t know, call it a Knight’s intuition that rarely goes wrong. Many of which had already gone wrong considering how many of his men had long started to follow the religion of Voodoo and became servants of this crazy man.

But as long as this old priest didn’t affect his operations, Loovo didn’t mind what he wanted.

"There are Master Ranks on the ship, change the ammunition, use the iron balls to steer their ship to our intended path, and then hit them with explosive shells." There was no hint of panic on the captain’s face, he gave the order without a hint of emotion, which was subsequently spread among his men by the voice of the first mate as well as a master-level Knight among the pirates.

Though before Loovo’s orders can be carried out, the voodoo master next to him shouts. "Hold up, did you feel it?" Spoke to the priest which made Loovo’s mood turn a bit sour. "Rodo, stay silent and don’t cause confusion. There is little we know of the enemy..."

"You and your arrogance. An ignorant one as always...and it would seem deaf as well." Spoke the priest, cursing the Pirate captain. "Can’t you hear it... the sounds?" Spoke the priest, crouching down and putting his ears on the ground. "The Spirits are restless, they are saying..."

"STOP!"

Loovo didn’t know what to make of these words, but then he recalled the scene from a few days ago, which made his turn a bit sour.

He had seen the Priest acting like this before, and at that time, he had been arrogant and didn’t listen to this old priest.

The result?

He saw it himself when a weird humanoid beast divided the eternal storm over the Vercano islands, before disappearing.

"The beast of destruction is coming... hide... hide." Spoke the Priest, turning Loovo’s mood even sour. Though he didn’t reprimand the crazy old man, he just shouted. "Everyone stop the bombing, we will meet these bastards on land."

There was no need to scare the men here, he just gave an order, leaving a small skeleton crew to man around four canons while he along with the rest left the defensive positions and soon edged toward the seashore.

Though it was at this time a new order came from Loovo. "Go into hiding, no question asked, don’t make a peep or cause chaos." Spoke Loovo, confusing many among his men, but seeing that the priest agreed, they could only nod and do as they were told.

As for the skeleton crew that was left behind? Their fate depends on their luck.

*****

"This sound, I find it annoying." Dragon cursed as his body materialized in the air with Rosso in his toe, followed by a phantom palm formed up of Aura that fell from heaven and directly onto the skeleton crew, destroying them in one full sweep.

Of course, this action was long noticed by Dearma, who happily waited for the pirates to die and then flew to the air slowly without using any of his domain teleportations and said. "You haven’t changed much." It’s only been a month at most, how can a person change in a month?
