The God of Jesters -
Chapter 53 - 2.14.2 Death
Chapter 53: 2.14.2 Death
Remira belonged to a family of knights called the Drischals.
Based around the arid region of Cynark’s Kingdom’s north. They were used to the cold and lived in isolation most of the time.
While those seeking their protection soon build up a small village around their castle.
A castle devoid of any technology or any easy way to access. It was an isolated village that never cared for what happened to the outside world, nor did they ever receive any important guests, even while being a knight family.
Which was why Remira’s youth was filled with ignorance and training. The blood of the hound which she was born with, gave her immense strength and survivability. But unlike a hound, she wished to learn more about the world outside of her pack.
It was during that time that Pierta and her husband came to the village, bringing with them a small young child.
She still remembers the day, how Pierta requested a stay in their house due to the snow storm. How she had played with Pierta’s son, Arturo while she was in the guest house until the storm was over.
Pierta seemed to be an adventurer of sorts while her husband was a merchant, meeting due to Pierta taking a protection contract.
Which led to their marriage and a baby.
It was why she had lots of stories to tell to Remira.
And when the two build up their home, Remira used to visit them to learn about the outside world, the bizarre cultures and the new technologies that were introduced in the world. Which even included the powerful enchanted revolver.
Remira treated Pierta like a storyteller, listening to her whenever she had the time, while also babysitting the young Arturo when there was time.
And Remira’s life would have gone that way, until great resurrection.
A curse that awakened the frozen dead buried deep into the snow.
It was the day Remira lost everything and so did Pierta. Who Remira found in her house, holding her dead child.
"We need to run away... this land is lost."
And finding Remira alive, Pierta rescued her from the land of the dead, which had become Remira’s home.
Bringing her to the radiant society, a place Pierta was once a knight cadet of.
The same Pierta whose frozen body now stood in front of her.
"AUNTY!!" The ice took her, just like it did most of her family.
The ice which she has come to hate.
"Why...’ Her blood boiled with anger and loss. Causing her to radiate a white flame over her body, that started to burn the ground around her.
But seeing this heat reach the frozen body of Pierta, who had been smiling at the end. Remira stopped.
This was not the time for grief.
With a slash of her hand, she broke the ice spear that had stabbed Pierta’s back and then Remira laid Pierta to rest on the floor.
Pierta, who she treated like her own mother, was no more.
A reality that Remira soon came to accept.
It was not like this was the first time this has happened, she had experienced worse.
But this was the first time when she had the strength to save her loved ones, but she failed. Which cost Pierta’s life.
"Kairut!!"
There was no person in sight on her, there were no leads beside Kairut.
So her anger was turned towards Kairut. The only person in this case she was aware of. The only link that might lead her to the killers.
No, there was a high chance, the killer was Kairut. Because it was not bizarre for someone of his caliber to mimic an ice mage. It was highly possible that it was his work.
Which is why, after checking up other corpses in the building, whose faces were burned with some powder. Remira called for the Marshall.
Who didn’t take long and arrived with his men equipped with automatic weapons. And a certain captive which was surrounded by these armed men.
"Remira, I am sorry for what happened."
Too many things happened in a single day. Just like Kairut came for Adam, the same thing seemed to happen with Maxim.
But he wonders, why did this happen?
If Maxim was murdered, it was understandable. No amount of sacrifices would matter in that case.
But he was not murdered according to Remira, he seemed to be captured. While leaving the frozen body of Pierta as a message to those that may visit Lecarth Library.
And while Maisel was wondering all these things, Remira turned to look at the center of the armed men and shouted. "You... show me your arm." She rushed, causing the armed men to aim their weapons at her.
But she didn’t stop.
"She is no threat to us." Maisel spoke out, which made the men move apart, exposing the person hiding in the group.
"Adam, that arm of yours. Show it to me."
Remira was not blinded by grief. Grieving her death can come later. For now, her killers were still out and about. Which she can’t allow.
Those bastards made it personal.
"Ye... yes ma’am!!" Adam hurriedly lifted his sleeve up, to expose the corrupted arm, which seemed to be healing slowly.
"Remira, what is this all about?" Maisel came from the back, curious over what Remira was doing.
As for Adam’s useless arm? He became aware of it not too long ago from Remira’s own words. A hand that Adam would have lost if not for Maxim transferring the corruption to his own limb.
Only leaving remnant corruption in the hand, which might take a few months to heal.
"His hand. This is the only thing that connects him to the Magistar."
"Kairut came for him probably due to the same reason probably, but he failed. Causing him to come under your protection."
"So they changed their target to the Magistar." Remira’s reasoning made sense to some extent. But calling a magistar to be an easy target?
That was a bit far reaching.
Maxim was a powerful Mystic, capable of creating various traps to deal with any intruders. But from the looks of it, those that came here were too prepared.
"Check the whole building clearly... and find what happened here."
"And Remira, mark the two. Otherwise, they might trigger some traps that might still exist in the building."
Remira was a good tracker, but it didn’t make her a good investigator. This is where Maxim came in.
After taking some of the blood from Adam’s injured arm. Remira turned toward the two investigators. Ordering them on her own. "This mark would only work for four hours. Do what you want within that time."

Kairut was back in his office, tired and defeated. But it didn’t mean he would stop here.
He doesn’t know how long he has, how much freedom he can enjoy. He needs to act fast before Jester comes snacking.
Which is why he employed some of his spies from the information guild and also gave a lot of money to them, to shut their mouth for a while.
Money that earned him immunity to do what he wants for a certain allotted time, in which the information guild won’t inform others of any of his fresh movements or request.
"An attack on Lecarth Library?"
Reading these words. Kairut fell into contemplation. He knew not of what the true plan was. But from these actions, it can be seen that it has come into motion.
"Others are also taking advantage of the time when he is out."
A core part of jester’s plan was Maxim, but now he was kidnapped by some third party.
As for who it was, Kairut didn’t need to think much about it. The only other party involved here was none other than Bue Lotus. And if Maxim was taken by them, it means they had already started their preparation.

"Hey Jasmine, the city officials are providing medicinal water to everyone for free. Come..." A boy said to his younger sister, which also seemed to be coughing relentlessly these days.
It was not just her, most of the city suffered the same fate and hence, when there were people who died of such simple illness, the city officials panicked at first, before relenting to provide free medical care to its citizens as well as refugees that had filled the streets of Durum.
They know, the situation currently is still a lot simpler, but in case this grows greater and becomes a pandemic, then the losses would be much worse than now. Not to mention, the loss of life that would soon follow.
Hence, under the order of the Mayor as well as the Governor of Durum, everyone was provided with the medicinal water free of charge.
Which was made by using diluted potion and worked wonders against the disease.
As for how they got it?
No one asked, as long as they could save money.
Those in the know, who were aware how cheap this medicine was, even thought of it as something experimental, where the citizens turned into rats for testing.
"Few days more... the time is coming here soon."
