Chapter 517: 8.07.2 Get out.

There was a balance to be had in the life he lived. Constant adventuring can be heavy on the mind as well as the soul, which is why the simple tradition of vacation began for him.

A ritual in which he sat on the back and tried to live a peaceful life like those of mortals.

But at the end of the day, he was far from a mortal. To him, this was nothing but a break of sorts, but it might be the place he chose, this simple vacation was cut short.

There was also the fact of his stalkers, who had forced him to hide in this city of Rudrain, otherwise, any place else would have done.

"Those foolish bastards will probably end up fingering me again.’ With a vulgar tone, he spoke with some expectation.

He expects the trouble to arrive by the morning, it’s probably why that Legendary warned him not too long ago. He had little time to make a choice, and if he didn’t in time, the might of the church would be on his doorstep.

’Troublesome.’ If he stays, the church of Truthful Deceit will end up causing him trouble, and if he goes out, the stalkers will end up doing the same and leaving him truly no choice.

But he still chose to leave this place first, no matter what, the stalkers behind him were not bad people. They won’t go on to harm an innocent man like him, which can be seen from how they have interacted with him till now.

As for the church, they are madmen, they were the initial reason even his old Captain was forced into the seas, which planted the first seed of conflict.

"Hah, I should have at least visited those high-end brothels... hah!" He cursed, before finding someone approaching his door.

’So early.’ He wondered for a bit before finding that it was just one individual who dared to come here at this hour, a tall woman with white flaming hair.

That was the only apt description that Heroth had for the woman who stopped right in front of his shop’s display window. "You." The hair, the smell in the air, and that arrogant face.

He knows her —- Correction, he knows people like her. "You bunch of stalkers finally showing your face?" Opening the door, he cursed at Remira, who had finally chosen a simpler approach.

Remira, who had finally seen her target face to face gave Heroth a deep look before responding with a simple. "Wouldn’t have been able to meet you again otherwise." She spoke in a simpler tone before asking. "Won’t you allow me in?"

"You truly dare to meet me at this time. Well then, come in. Hoping that the church goes after you snobs after this as well." There were many eyes on his shop and all those approached it. And unless it was church personnel or those from the Bartender’s guild, the observers around the shop would obviously note it all down.

"I see that Mister Heroth doesn’t like us that much."

"Should I like the people who harassed me from the seas to this city?" Heroth spoke with some hint of hatred. If there was one thing he hated the most, it would be annoyance, and these people had caused him that a bit too much.

The reason he ended up in this city is due to them.

"You left us no choice. If you had given us what we wanted since the start, things wouldn’t have escalated." Remira spoke without shame, the arrogance of the Radiant Knight was strong in her. "But seeing you have allowed me in, are you ready to speak of what we desire?"

"Daydreaming so late at night, as I said before, I won’t speak a word about Malidi or his location. So you can forget about it." There was really no need to hide it anymore. He had been found for a long while now, and those who were looking for Malidi had been pursuing him for as long.

Though most were still unaware of who he truly was, and most of the Radiant Knights were still the same.

They were unaware of his true strength and capabilities, or the reason why the Church backed off for now.

As for Raja who was sleeping on the first floor, Remira didn’t mind it much, she had been in contact with the Bartenders for a while, and from what she reasoned on the reports Heroth had a close relationship with this group of information providers.

So it wasn’t odd that one of the managers was here.

"You should think about it, Mister Heroth. The church of Truth is one of the worst churches to make enemies of. They are relentless once they have bit into a foe, they won’t stop until they extract the truth out of you."

"You are promising protection?’ Heroth felt intrigued, though he still mocked her for her arrogance. "The Knights that barely had any proper existence in this city dare to claim they can protect me?" The relationship between the Radiant order hadn’t been so great until a few years ago when the old leader of the Radiant order was replaced by Hawking Ziegart.

Although a few years had gone by, the damage of their influence done in the last few decades after the accident in Yethel was still not recovered properly.

The churches held power over the cleansing and Taboo investigations, taking on the jobs that the Radiant Order did, and taking back those jobs took time on the Order’s end.

Making it so, that they still remained weak to this day.

"If it was a bigger opponent, then it would have been an issue, but in the case of a singular church, we can promise protection. And I don’t lie." Remira said showing her badge that carried her identity as one of the Elder Candidates. Which still didn’t do a thing for Heroth. "If this is all you have to offer, then no deal... I can escape from the city by myself..." Heroth paused for a bit before continuing with. "Even escaping from your people." Certain things can’t be said, things that are better kept secret.

Few truly understood who he was or what he was, and Heroth preferred to keep it that way in order to hold "others" back. But if push comes to shove, he didn’t mind doing something naughty occasionally.

Something as simple as letting "it" go.

And this simple hidden threat was felt by Remira, who could see the oddity in Heroth’s eyes. However, due to her ignorance, she didn’t care about it much.

If not for the protection this man had and the attention he had obtained from the parties recently, Remira would have long kidnapped Heroth by herself. And she believed she had the strength to do so.

Though before she could mock Heroth a bit of his overconfidence, her nose perked up before her attention turned to the counter, and then to the old kitchen in the back that had been occupied by someone not too long ago.

Someone she knows about, someone she had received reports about. And from what she understood, the girl ought to be someone simple. Just a hire for help for the lazy old Sailor, nothing more.

"I see your employee has left the shop," Remira spoke, giving the old Heroth a deep look, who didn’t say much besides turning a bit angrier. "The Knights have really fallen low. Even threatening the uninvolved parties."

"You misunderstand me, there was no meaning behind my words." Remira felt the need to clarify before continuing. "But are you sure she was uninvolved... because I don’t know why, but I seem to recall her from somewhere?" Remira spoke with some wonder as well as confusion.

The smell she smelt just now, felt a bit familiar. Though this familiarity was only on a surface level, as there had been many similar smells among people and with thousands of new ones she meets every day whenever she goes on a simple walk, it’s virtually impossible for her to keep track of all their smells.

And this individual smell was barely above the level of those strangers in her mind, barely holding any identity behind it.

But for one reason or another, she did find the smell a bit familiar.

"Knight, I would suggest you forget about her as well as about me and leave.’ At this point, Heroth had also caught on to Remira’s oddity, which also made him understand one thing about Arahi.

’She was not one of the Radiant Eyes.’ For the long while Arahi was here, he had always suspected of her being a spy for the Radiant eyes, because that’s how they operated when concerning a suspicious target.

Employing the powerless victims of course or taboo events to act as observers or spies. And these people are generally ignorant victims put in a dangerous position because they can’t move on from the tragedy.

So he felt pity for Arahi in a part of his heart, it was this conjured-up past that had stopped Heroth from taking any drastic actions against the little pitiful girl.

But even then, he kept on the lie. Although the part of her being in Radiant eye was wrong on his end. But the tragedy that the girl was hiding was real. He knew this well enough.

And for the help she provided him in the recent months, he didn’t mind saving her for a bit. Which is why he still maintained the same strong front against Remira.
