Chapter 510: 8.05.2 Trouble
Rosso on the other hand had his own thoughts. "A blood artifact." Considering the two before who failed, this seems to explain why those two had originally failed finally.
A blood artifact, there had been some details in his mind about these things, specifically over how useless they were, which is why there was not much information that his Creator put in him about these. "Is there a way to confirm if my blood is the right one?" Rosso asked, curious if the little bits of trophy he had collected before could be turned to be useful.
"Boy, I was a sailor, that’s the most I can tell you after years of adventure." But Heroth denied it. He was no scholar, he only learned enough to know what was what and how to utilize them, otherwise, there was never enough curiosity in his head to dig too deep into things that were of no concern to him.
"Check the libraries, there might be a way to confirm if you still possess the pedigree or not. Or you can use my previous suggestion, go to any Noble family with this, and they will find a way to confirm themselves."
The suggestion would have been good for anyone else, but for Rosso, no, this was next to impossible.
"I thank you for this... and I will be leaving the bracelet with you, I hope you be able to get the money as soon as possible," Rosso explained before giving one last look toward the girl, who felt a bit disturbed as well as curious about Rosso before disappearing from the shop.
He can only stay for a while, and more than that, something bad will happen now that the Guard of that Dranath Girl has noticed him. ’I won’t be able to come here again.’
It was already a miracle that this shop survived when the butcher shop he used to work in had disappeared from this world, which went to show that this old man was not simple.
So this additional visit might not cause any serious issues for this old man, but it’s certain to cause him some trouble in the long run. And he won’t be able to come back here once again, so giving one last look to the girl was all he did, imprinting her face in his head.
And as he had expected, a few figures had already flown over to the shop at the fast rate. Among them was one of the Elders of the Vermilion family, Lasi Aswha, whose daughter was gifted with the magic cutting blade by Heroth some months ago.
So it was safe to say that the reason she was here was for Heroth, although she rarely cared for outsiders, she wouldn’t let someone like Heroth be harmed during any investigations.
"He has disappeared." The Priest of the Truthful Deciet spoke, giving one look over the shop and then turning his eyes to the surroundings."Fellow Knights, spread out, search for any clues, I will go and meet with this shop owner myself." There were a total of Four Grandmaster-ranked Knights in the air, and over fifteen who were zoning in on this area on foot. All of them being Master Ranked.
That’s the level of strength that is mandatory for them to take part in this operation.
"Sir Halbrand, may I go with you?"
"I know this shop is under your protection and you are just fulfilling your promise. But I am alone to visit it, I have noticed some odd things here."
"The old Sailor’s background is iffy, he seems simple, but he is far from what he shows. But we still did business knowing all of this. He is not one to cause problems."
"Don’t worry, many experts are hiding in our domain for years on end, and we have done our best not to disturb them, which will include the Sailor as long as he answers my questions truthfully." The Priest spoke, showing a smile with his crooked teeth, but this didn’t give Lasi Ashwa any assurance.
The Priest of Truthful Deceit were infamous for their interrogations, most of the time, they would go off-topic and ask questions that shouldn’t be answered. But due to the strength of the mystical powers of a Priest, it becomes harder for one to lie.
Imagine if such questions were asked to Heroth, he might just break away from the Vermilions. "I can allow a Private meeting if you can promise me that the questions will remain on topic." Although her words did hurt the old priest, he ended up nodding. "As you say, little girl." She along with the old priest floated to the level of the shop and then opened the door to see a cute little girl manning the cash register, while an old man stood not too far, reading some romance novels.
"Welcome sir, Madam." The girl bowed in front of the two before finding something odd.
These two hadn’t turned to look at her at all, as their eyes always remained on that old man. Showing that these two in one way or another were not actually customers, but more a guest.
"There had been too many guests today," Heroth said, putting down the book and then turning to look at the two before noticing the existence of Elder Lasi, and the priest robes of the Halbrand. "Have my name reached even the ears of a Grand Priest?"
It was easy to see that the one with intention was none other than the priest, white Lasi was just here as an introduction.
"Are we not welcome?" Halbrand asked with some curiosity. But Heroth just smiled, with a bow to the old man saying. "How can I do such a thing to the man of God? I thank you for securing the peace of the district so fast. It’s why I was able to open my shop so fast."
"There is no need for niceties, not at the moment as I am here due to an errand."
"Oh, I wonder what kind?" Heroth asked, feeling that things were not so right. And yes, it was as he expected. "Elder Lasi, please bring this girl out of the shop, I intend to converse with the Old sailor on my own.’
"Sir, this... are you intending to interrogate me?" Heroth was not so stupid, he had long been aware of what kind of people these bastards were. So although he had hoped there was nothing wrong with him, that didn’t seem to be the case.
"That’s been my intention since the start. And as long as you can answer me truthfully, there won’t be any issues. Of course, that too depends on the truth you spoke of."
At those words, Heroth’s creased his brows. "Is such trouble necessary? I am a truthful fella, just ask and I will say it." Heroth suggested though it was hard to hide the annoyance in his voice.
Interrogation under the influence of a foreign power? That thing disgusted him. He can’t let such a thing touch him, for it felt disgusting. He had faced similar things in the ocean and each time always led to tragedy, so he didn’t want it to be repeated here.
As he can’t trust his mind with others.
"Sir, there is no need for anything extra," Lasi spoke from the side, before turning to Heroth. "Old man, the man who was here before us. Do you happen to know him personally?"
At the mention of an odd man, Heroth understood who they were talking about. "Is that young man in trouble?" He asked, appearing baffled. Before speaking. "The most the boy did was give me this bracelet to sell to you, that’s it," Heroth said, showing the little protection bracelet he had kept on him all this time while explaining the little story.
Hearing which, the Old man maintained his slight smile, letting Heroth speak in detail. "The Compass, was it a blood artifact?"
"Yes, an odd one. Although he made it sound like he intended to sell it, I know he just wished to know how to activate it. But I am just a sailor, what do I know about activating the blood artifacts?"
"A blood artifact in his hand... " Completely understanding the situation, Lasi thought that this artifact really belonged to the man. "This might explain why that infection can hold the background in so many paths, that compass must be the key. Without it, he won’t be able to cause any harm."
"Infection... ah?" The girl on the other hand, Arahi appeared startled, putting two and two together, before coming to the conclusion that the young man who she met not too long ago was a capable killer, that had caused massive harm to the people of Rudrain.
"That boy, that boy didn’t seem like someone who can do something like this... but looks can be deceiving." Heroth looked at the bracelet and said. "Keep it, I don’t think he came here with an intention to sell it at all." He spoke to Lasi.
"Sir, he had already spoken all the truth, I don’t think there is any reason to say here any further." Lasi thought she had done a good job, she had found the answer they were looking for. The priest must be satisfied with this result.
Well, she thought wrong. "Those were your questions, I have a few more at hand, and I prefer some privacy. When asking such questions."
"Sir, we got what we wanted."
"Or the sailor wants us to think that, for who knows how many lies are hidden between his truth."
