Chapter 481: 7.22.9 Epilogue 1

"We both know that ending it is impossible. The Radiant Knights are eying you, if leeway is given, they would have a reason for a countercase. Which would put your future in question." Priest Boman spoke in simple words, this punishment which was like a joke was the least they could do before the Radiant Knights once again used it as an excuse to force their will on the Farhad.

Being the third party handling Farhad, Priest Boman was not so foolish to believe the Radiant Knight Vance word for word. And he was right to do so, as the story he obtained from Farhad’s mouth was slightly different.

Sadly, due to Farhad losing his head during the scuffle, he also ended up losing the memory of the fact that Vance had tried to end his life during the conflict. Which in turn made it possible for most of the blame to fall on Farhad.

But his actions in one way or another with Amir did prevent another assassination attempt on the Royal life. Or so the words that were spoken by the Cynark Military, they tried to fight the Radiant Knights by the phrase that Farhad had ended up saving one of the Princes white putting his life on the line, which was not so far from the truth. But some details were obviously ignored just to gain some advantages during the follow-up negotiations.

Which at the end of it all forced everyone to come up with a simple resolution. Farhad obviously will be punished for his actions, there was no denying that. But it would be foolish for them to treat a powerful existence that had reached the ranks of Master like a simple house guest.

Farhad needs to be utilized and under the management of the Church of Red Sun, that’s how he will be used in the future. Used by all the three parties together and priority will be given depending on the job at hand.

"They have been eyeing me for ages, well some of them at least.’ Farhad sighed, recalling the cold eyes of Grand Knight Vance Clifford, Farhad really didn’t know what he did that he earned the ire of the Knights.

Well, that was also a lie, it’s not like he never understood this simple fact. ’These flames are theirs, and they would do their best to obtain it.’ The only reason he was still alive was that he had the backing of the Cynark military, otherwise, if he was someone else, the military wouldn’t have any justification to retain Farhad. Meaning that he would long have been dead.

Such a complication makes it possible for him to keep his life. This was also funny, considering that he hated the country of Cynark more than Jester, while he held next to no hatred for the Radiant Knights.

It almost felt like a divine comedy. The ones he hated wanted to save him, while the ones he liked wanted to kill him. A contradiction that kept him alive and put him in a tough place, making it harder for him to give his all on the battlefield.

"And they will keep doing it. The best you can do is show your value to them as a living person, then a dead one. Minds aren’t changed overnight." Of course, they don’t.

Things might have been different if his Father had not so selfish in his utilization of the flames. He only used it to his own and never asked or answered Radiant Order’s calls. Which put them in a tough situation.

The Flames were given to Varkus Maisel by one of their own to defeat a greater evil. And the will of the dead Grandmaster can’t be ignored so easily. So the Radiant Order somehow persisted even with Varkus’ constant denials of support. But that was not the case anymore with Farhad.

Now they have the right to take back the flames, and they only remain at bay due to the push of the Cynark military. It was easy to see that they were wronged.

"I will, and I hope when I do, I have the support of the Church of Red Sun during my active days." Farhad smiled kindly before the sermon ended, and he was let go for a break.

Since the incident three months ago, the ghoul activity had died down and there was no need for him to be active on the battlefield anymore. Or it was more like he couldn’t even if he wanted to due to the political issues that might arise.

Of course, now with the new contract in place between the three parties, the Cynark Military can borrow Farhad anytime they want. But that is only after his punishment has ended. So although this whole punishment seemed torturous to him, he can still handle it as long as he is not forced to fight on the frontline.

But none of that meant that he was really worry-free at the moment.

This was Durum and like before, he could see oddities floating over the heads of certain individuals in the city wherever he walked.

Including some oddities that looked like his father, and one even looked like his sister.

’This city is wrong.’ He can’t help but find this whole place suffocating, just like all those years ago when he was barely surviving in the mage institute.

If not for the fact that he feared any retaliation of these odd existences, he would have long tried to expose them. But even if they do tell people about them, who will come to believe them? Not to mention, he was an occult student who, although you might not have been the best in his class, still understood the basic knowledge as well as precautions one should take when dealing with such oddities.

Any kind of approach, any kind of reaction, or any kind of curiosity will lead to trouble, the best one can do is ignore it. That’s the only way to deal with these odd existences.

’This whole country is wrong.’

He ignored the soldiers who carried a huge floating tumor over his head and walked to his room where he had spent most of his days since coming back after the investigation was over.

A simple room with all daily necessities provided, most of which was useless to him who never needed to eat the mortal food again, nor the need to sleep.

But this day, when he came back, someone was waiting for him there. "You are?"

"Sir Farhad, I apologize for my sudden Visit, but I am here under the order of Prince Amir." The man was Hemant. Someone who usually acted as Prince Amir’s bodyguard, but due to the odd circumstances Farhad met with Amir, there was not much interaction with Hemant on his part.

The most he can remember is the sleeping face that Amir tried to save.

"Follow me in." This was why Farhad knew that this was no trap and that the following topic might be a bit dangerous to talk about in the open.

"Of course." Entering the room which seemed too simple to boot, Hemant felt a bit alien here. Everything was too neat as if no one had lived in this place at all. But such thoughts were kept to himself and under the lead of Farhad, he found a place and sat down.

"I am to assume you have asked for permission to visit me from the General?" Farhad recalls the Prince.

Their first meeting was not kind, and the subsequent actions he did in that dream were not kind either.

He still remembers the time when he had woken up and tried to apologize to Prince Amir. The young prince had actually flinched under his approach.

Which was surprising as well as sad. That simple action of the Prince also made many of the soldiers around the Prince aim their weapons at Farhad, thinking he was an enemy.

Which was understandable. In the dream, his actions were a bit too brutal. But he had reasoning behind each of his actions.

Even if Amir is strong and smart. Much smarter than anyone Farhad had ever met. What Amir lacks is experience, specifically the experience when dealing with Jester. Making him susceptible to dreams easily.

Dreams that might be hard to break for others, but Farhad had experienced just too much, and he could notice the oddities that no one else could.

Like for example, how General Vera treated him as a stranger, even though he had met with General Vera not too long ago and that old General can be considered a family friend of his. Which was one of the many small mistakes Jester made while creating this dream.

But to Amir, none of it was odd. And Farhad had wondered if speaking the truth directly would be the right choice in the dream.

And the answer he came to was no. If he spoke of it outright, the jester might play some dirty games to create mass confusion and make it harder for him to kill Amir who will be guarded against him.

’Overwhelming Amir was the only choice.

Of course that led to constant failures as Amir fought back even then. Delaying his awakening process.

This finally pushes Farhad to use all he can to defeat the dream incarnation of General Vera and end Amir’s life.

A false life that forced Amir to wake up. But the experience that Amir went through in the dream was real. Which caused a mental block for Amir for a while.

But he was a grown-up, although changed in some ways, he understood Farhad’s position and reconciled soon after. Though their meeting had ended there. Amir never approached him for any answers from start to finish.

Well from the looks of it, he had his reasons. And those reasons can finally be ignored, which is how Hemant was here.
