Chapter 466: 7.20.3 The meetup.
For a faithless man, it was bizarre for Hemant to see so much belief in the blessing that his master just earned not too long ago.
Which was weird, but he didn’t overthink it.
"But it would be better if I had to never depend on this blessing." Although Amir didn’t know how the blessing worked or how it affected him, he still was smart enough to know that it was always better to not come across any problems that might bring him to the edge.
But with the blessing, he also understood that he could live a bit worry-free, he doesn’t need to be conservative with his actions, and he can take chances and hope to achieve the results that his grandfather expects him to.
So after this little job of Ludwig is done, Amir plans to visit the frontline and see what he can do there.
Of course, such thoughts, he kept it to himself for now. These contemplations were for him alone.
And just like that, it was the next day, and to his surprise, after countless cleaning crews had already made a stop here previously, someone walked from the horizon.
"This man... " From afar, they watched the man walk with a weak gait, appearing injured and burned in some parts, his uniform to that of a Cynark soldier, burnt and broken like many other corpses they have seen yesterday.
But weren’t the bodies cleaned up?
Although there were losses, finding and dealing with diseased soldiers took a day for most of the camps, so where did this individual appear from?
And even if he did, why was he not picked up by the trucks moving between the camps during the day?
There were many such questions, which finally put the Camp on guard against this odd soldier.
They still haven’t forgotten about the story of what happened to one of the Guard Camps at the frontline.
A complete massacre where the enemies seemed to have played with the corpses. Leaving only one survivor in a state that is too harrowing to even mention.
Was something the same going to happen to them? Was the enemy a scout of a Yethel platoon that somehow broke through and is hiding in the area now? Waiting for a moment to strike?
And this was to believe of Amir as well, who looked at the individual from the distance, as he called all the active agents in the field back to his camp. "Should we inform the headquarters?" Asked the officer who found that soldier’s entire existence a tad bit dangerous.
But Amir after a bit of contemplation, paused and said. "No need for now, but remain at the radio, if you notice an oddity, inform them without a moment’s notice." Following those words, Amir got up from his seat and walked along the barricade until he came across the door that stood between him and the odd individual that just arrived at the camp.
"You don’t seem that tired or injured... who are you." It was a dangerous move on his end. It would have been better if he sent Hemant to the front instead of going himself. And that’s what he generally would have done.
But there were two reasons he chose to do this.
The primary reason was that he understood the fear and confusion on the soldier’s faces. From all they understand, their superiors don’t care about their little lives, seeing how the soldiers who were risking their lives in the field were treated no better than the ghouls when the onslaught of spells was launched all over the land.
Such actions might not show much impact early on, as the fear and confusion still prevent people from acting foolish, but with time, who knows what comes into their mind, at first, it will only be their performance, then there would be the appearance of runaways, who will influence others around them.
Such a future, Amir can see it clearly even if the old and more adept commanders in this field might not. To them, an individual’s strength is all that is needed to suppress their underlings. ’But that is just suppression, it will only cause more problems as time goes on.’
As for the second reason?
Amir believed in his blessing a bit. No, believed in it a lot. Which is why he was able to put everything behind him and give this a try. Letting the soldiers in the camp see that he was not a coward who hid behind his men.
"There is no need to worry Sir, I might not be part of Cynark Military, but I am currently working for them... it’s just an accident that happened, and I broke up with my group." Farhad on the other hand looked at the young face.
A familiar face that he had seen not too long ago. ’So they were together?’ Though that was the limit of his thoughts, considering how safe Ludwig was playing his cards, it would be hard for this other prince to be aware of the matters relating to the death of a Prince otherwise, he would have chosen to give this job to Prince Amir from the start instead of him.
’But this can be a bit troublesome. Why is he here while Prince Ludwig was called over?’ The man in front of Amir was a Prince as well, and from what he understood, all the Royals should be called to the city by this point.
So why, a Prince who he saw not too long ago was here in front of him?
’A bait I presume? Then it will be troublesome.’ The current Farhad carried a different face, which was much easier for him to do than he thought. So the Prince in front of him still didn’t identify him from the last time they met in the camp. Nor did Farhad wish to expose himself so early, as who knows if he will call back to the camp.
"Answer my question in simple words, who are you? Give me the name, your faction, or whatever else you have for identification, I need to confirm it with the headquarters."
"That... I don’t wish to lie. But what I say is really the truth, I don’t mean any harm and am here for a particular purpose that’s harder for me to say too many ears." Farhad spoke again, bowing his head down to show that he really meant no harm.
But the more he spoke like this, the more Amir found him odd. "If you can’t answer, in proper words in the next ten seconds, then you leave me no choice but to notify the headquarters, while my men start shooting you."
"..."
Farhad hated men like this who listened for no reason. Well in hindsight, he was the one at fault since the start. But then Farhad nose caught the whiff of something.
A smell so delectable that he had only smelled it one time long ago in his life. ’A godsend opportunity.’
"The smell of divine blood." At the mention of those words, Amir lifted his arm and stopped his men from acting at all, which confused them.
But not Hemant who looked at the odd individual with a curious look. "Hemant, go bring the Mana Locks and dispersal Poison."
"If you think that’s necessary, so be it," Farhad spoke, not feeling even a little bit offended by those words.
He needs to be inside, he needs to know who is the contract, as in his mind it could be anyone considering it was a shape-shifter he was dealing with.
And it’s not like any of those things will work on him anyway. He was an undead being with proper sentience, he neither had a Knight’s Vitality, nor a Mages mana.
So none of those things had an effect on him.
And if there was a thing that could harm him, it would be the power of contract, which his old friend Ludwig used to love, but with Ludwig’s absence, there was a lack of contracts in the camp to begin with.
Meaning only superfluous preparation can be done in order to deal with him.
"Lord, this man feels dangerous, taking him inside would cause some dissatisfaction among the soldiers... they are already very much scared."
"You think I want to take such a risk?" Amir looked at Hemant before shaking his head and saying. "We both know that if this man is aware of it, then things are truly not as simple as they appear to be."
Amir thought back to the past, to his meeting with his cousin and how he bragged about having connections with the Radiant Knights. But even then, Amir was well aware that such subjects can’t be discussed. Meaning that only a small subset of people should be aware of the Vampire Progenitor’s blood. ’It’s not something you can easily know about.’
But if they do know about it. It would be easier to see who was the leak. ’Definitely the Radiant Order... he spoke he broke off from his friends.’ Amir thought hard, thinking to the back and recalling all the Radiant knights he met at the camp.
’No face matches, but he is definitely with them. Well, I will get the answers soon enough.’ Although he had promised Amir that he wouldn’t inform the headquarters, with a simple gesture from his head, one of his men had already started to tap on the radio, sending a small signal about the stranger that had approached them.
"Foolish bastard." Which caused me to curse a lot.
I was lucky I had taken my place inside early on, and while no one was looking, I messed with the Radio a bit.
