Chapter 449: 7.16.3 The blind lady.
Though before the woman could take a breath of relief, I returned for a bit. "Also, stop your friends from attacking so soon, don’t die so early, wait for a bit." Such words coming from the mouth of a small monkey might sound odd generally, but the woman just nodded to him, appearing subservient to some extent.
’Such a good act.’ I could see it, she was a snake hiding her fangs, there were already some of her clones converging eying me from a distance, including the one in front of me.
’A good clone.’ I thought before disappearing from the site.
The true one is hiding beneath her bed, acting like luggage, while her clones act in place of her. Though it’s not like her real body is any stronger, she is even weaker than her clones. There is a reason she was never at the core of her family.
’Yezhwa’s Centi family... there was a survivor of their still in existence.’ What happened to the Centi family was a mystery to many, but such mysteries were not far from my reach and I had been aware of who among the royals ended that family as well as the reason.
’It’s sad knowing what happened to her family.’ Sand Dragon Vaishal was the name of the totem of the Centi family.
A totemic being who was considered the peak of the mortal world and the closest to a "true" god that existed on this land. But due to certain circumstances, fell before he could truly join the ranks.
Well, there is still a descendant left, so he can’t be considered to have died completely. ’Her family had been in decline, otherwise, it’s impossible for the Royal family to ever touch them.’
The girl I met just now lacked any talent and her bloodline was wasted on her. But so was the case with most of her family, where none of them were able to master the true strength of their bloodline besides creating a bunch of mud sand clones. ’Well, her children might show some potential.’
Ignoring the short meeting I had, I reached the top of the city and walked through some familiar streets. "It really smelled bad here." Before, I was merely a wraith, hiding in the shadows and living in the sewer, to me smell or taste mattered not.
But now the case was much different. I had a body, and I could smell the same old smells that I had forgotten about all those years of living as a wraith.
"Reminds me of my home."
I jumped about, going unnoticed by the majority of soldiers, as for the floating eyes that seemed to be a mage creation, none of them seemed that interested in such a small monkey like me, no matter how odd it appeared.
It might be the distance, which made me appear as a giant rat. But it would seem that things were going my way a bit too smoothly.
Which is a sign that there might be eyes on me already.
’No reaction at all.’ The current city of Durum was under Martial Law, none could walk out of their home, and those that did like the soldiers were also under the surveillance of mage eyes. ’They’re either letting me go my way in order to assess my intention, or they don’t know I am here.’ With the limited number of eyes that were here in the city, I can’t say for certain. The control in this city was not as strong as it used to be, nor did I have any eyes or ears left in the mage institute in any way or form.
’This is why I didn’t want to be exposed.’ My lovely daughter messed up my methods, the city had learned to adapt and doesn’t let crows or even rats enter their important compounds.
So, though I don’t like to say this, but half of this mission depended on my luck.
But it would seem I was thinking too much.
"I reached here so easily?" A bit surprised over my own luck, I don’t know if I should praise the city for its laxness or truly my luck.
Well whatever it was, I needed to find a way to enter this place, which had a magic circle of its own.
’Even mages are not so rich enough to do this.’ A protection dome inside a protection dome, no wonder none of my rats succeeded in infiltrating this place.
’No one comes in and no one goes out.’ The more I saw the state of things here, the more it seemed that it would be impossible for me to kill my target.
Well, that was if I was just a normal Master Ranked Knight.
I was a wraith that had turned himself into a Nightmare. To me, such defenses were nothing to me at all. "Cheating feels a bit sad though." One should be aware of their limits and so was the case with me.
The current me is not capable of breaking this magic shield in any way or form, nor would I be able to clear all the experts that are hiding in this little palace of theirs.
’A total of four Master Class, such richness, such inefficiency.’ I can say for certain, that the Prince was definitely here, even if I can’t feel his existence at all.
Even the Mayor of this "quaint little town" is not important enough to gain the protection of multiple Master Ranked knights. Which meant a Royal was present there, with some added security to boot.
’Wasting such force to protect someone so useless.’ With some closed eyes, I saw a couple of people dreaming.
Their dreams were filled with fear and dread of the future. Some were worried over the death of their loved ones, with some facing death itself in their dreams.
It was easy to see the effect that this war had on the minds of these simple workers who just earned a bit of time to shut their eyes.
Becoming a gateway for me.
A piece of me broke off from my body, entering the world of dreams and then exiting the nightmare of a maid who slept on the chair in the kitchen hiding from her superiors.
"I thank thee." Although I said such words, the truth was, that my body felt some restrictions in this place.
’Ho, if it was the old me, I might have been caught.’ I guess not all was bad by turning into a Totem, the restrictions that were placed in this place were for a wraith or similar existences. Was this all built for me? Or just a default protection for someone of a Prince’s background?
Well, whatever it was, I was inside, and the little restriction could only make my movements a bit of a chore, it couldn’t detect me at all.
Which is good, which was perfect in some ways, as this gave me a lot more time to enjoy the beauty of this mansion.
’So much space.’ The servants moved in and out, always under the scrutinizing eyes of Knights who roamed the hallways at a higher rate than the streets. The importance and protection in this place was on another level.
"Hmm?" Before I entered a room, I came to a halt due to a blind beautiful woman sitting in a chair, in the accompany of a Master Ranked Knight.
’Ho... a Mystic." Although she didn’t excuse any magical energies as the Mages did, I could still tell at a glance who or what she was.
’A powerful one, if I were to compare, she is reaching the level of Magistars from Radiance Order.’ The palpitations in the realm of dreams were obvious to me; although blind in the real world, her focus was elsewhere, making it much harder to move any further.
’This is troublesome.’
*****
The name was Kirie the Dream Watcher, a Mystic belonging to the Cynark military and currently on duty to protect a certain prince who is not well-liked in the military, but she had to sit here just due to the orders of her superiors.
’Such bland dreams.’ She said, looking at the bubbles that had appeared around her.
All of these dreams belonged to mortals, all of them filled with fear.
’Don’t they know, this is the safest place in Wortham at the moment?’ Obviously, she is not talking about the Capital of Wortham where Duke Wortham lived. But specifically this border area.
Though, while having such random thoughts something appeared in her dream.
A figure of a young child approached her with a bright smile on his face. "Don’t panic, I don’t wish to kill you.’ The child said, causing Kirie to stop her actions.
"You, what are you?" This was the first time she saw something like this child.
A sentient being that was neither a creation from a dream nor another spiritual being like her current body.
No, the boy in front of her felt a bit too "real". Like he was there in flesh and blood.
Or in a way, this feeling also meant that the boy in front of her was more real than the current her. ’A higher level existence.’
"I am here to kill a price, but then I found you in the way, a kind of person that I would hate to kill." At the boy’s words, the eyes of Kirie flinched in fear for a bit, feeling the air around her get heavy, and her ability to return to the real world blocked. "See, how easy it is for me to do this?"
The boy showed her his cards and then threatened her with her life. But she didn’t speak.
’Kill a prince?’ No, she can’t let that happen. As with the prince’s death, something much worse might befall her, who had the responsibility to protect the prince from the spiritual world.
"You are a talented little girl, you are smart, and I don’t want people of your caliber, who sacrificed her legs and eyes to gain this power, to die so easily."
