Chapter 445: 7.15.1 Meeting my hero.
The moment the missiles flew through the air, there was a heavy atmosphere among the soldiers who were burning up the ghoul nest.
Whether they like it or not, that was the trumpet of war as well as death. Making the fear in the mood of the mortal soldiers apparent.
They had heard the tales, heard the horror stories from their seniors. They were well aware that there was a high chance that they had a low chance of survival. But more than fear of death, what they worried more about was their family.
’Death means food for the family.’ That was the one way the military of Cynark ensured that their soldiers wouldn’t desert them when the time came, they would fight for the future of their family, a future that was at stake by their country itself.
"Lord, it’s better to move back soon... things don’t seem so simple." Not too long ago, Hemant had witnessed multiple flairs ahead in the distance, which would usually be unnoticeable by mortals, but for him and others like him, it wasn’t that hard to detect.
Of course, there was no need to expose this fact to the rest of the soldiers, he just looked toward his Lord, asking him to leave this place as fast as possible.
But Amir refused to go back. Not so early at the least. His reasoning is very kind as well. "We will do our job first." There was an established force defending the borders ahead of them, which wouldn’t be much of an issue if not for the fact that tonight, Ghouls were running rampant, making the back of the soldiers in the force undefended.
If nothing is done on time, there is a chance that they will be surrounded by both sides, which would result in tragedy. "Clean it all up."
That was his single goal. He was not going to stop until his job was completed.
Though, before he could even have the thought of his job being completed, explosions erupted from afar, causing the night sky to light up again on the distant horizon.
"It begins." Hemant knew that sound very much, the two forced to have met a bit too fast than anticipated making one wonder if all the traps the Cynark military had set up on the border were just for show or not.

On the other side, of the battle, in the form of a small monkey, I jumped around in the dark field and sometimes stepped on the mines which never went off due to the little weight I had in this form. "They will be attracted to death like flies." I laughed, overlooking the carnage that was taking place not too far from me.
Although bombs, one after another hit both sides and although the side of Cynark had the advantage due to their established defenses as well as quantity, the harm on the side of Yethel was not as serious as one might have thought.
All because Yethel possessed stronger and better weapons.
Sadly, my place was not among them.
The mages have already started to move and I can feel the existence of a few archlevel figures along with grandmasters that were making their move.
The shock of the weapons used was too much for Cynark, they probably intended to shock our country, push us back, and earn enough time to fix the issues of Ghouls first.
’Wonderful.’ But I was aware of the little toy that Orvillia built, the toy that can be considered the perfect defensive weapon for the war of attrition.
And in the sky, it wasn’t long before I noticed the stars disappear and the winds pick up pace.
A storm was coming, and it was time for me to move.
*****
Dust, wind, and destruction were all over me, the smell of wet soil mixed with the rotten smell of the ghouls also put some disgust on my face. But I couldn’t escape from any of them, instead, I used the smell and shape of the ghouls to hide away from the prying eyes of mages and walked deeper and deeper into Cynark’s territory, while the war behind me raged on.
This was fun, this was the enjoyment I was looking forward to all this time.
"Where is he?" As for me, I looked for the Amir, the fool who had denied my advances.
How dare he give up the opportunity that I had given him, how dare he help Cynark. This place would never appreciate his true talents, I was the only one who would do such a thing.
So I moved, I moved and looked for him among the burnt corpses of ghouls and even some fresh blood of soldiers, who seemed to have been injured due to the war before.
But as I went deeper, never in a million years I would have expected to come across some people who seemed to have noticed my presence as well.
"A monkey?" Sarlen spoke, curious and a bit surprised by my existence.
While the man beside him spoke without much surprise. "I had noticed his presence for a while now, I thought it was some mutant ghoul under all this dust and darkness... but it truly turned out to be a monkey." Though the man spoke such words, he never put down his guard.
No, from his position and the guards that surrounded him, I can ascertain one thing. He had purposefully walked in my path. This was an ambush.
"Haha, you boy are smart," I spoke loudly, not hiding my intelligence at all.
"As expected, a shape-shifter... " The man, who was obviously Prince Ludwig, didn’t seem that surprised by my words, but others around him were, who aimed their weapons directly at my skull.
Which was dangerous, even for me. The current me was in the form of a monkey with soft skull. It would be easier for them to kill me. But there was a reason why I bothered to expose myself, to begin with.
"Lord, I wonder if we can come to an understanding?" Earlier before this whole meeting, I had captured one of his crows while acting like an ignorant monkey and then let it go before Ludwig finds anything weird. Though this was my way of attracting his attention.
Which seemed to have worked, though the people that currently surrounded him were common folks, so it’s not good to talk out loud in the open or what my true intentions were. As each of my words would mean the death of them.
And one shouldn’t think of Ludwig as a kind foolish man, he survived through all the strenuous attempts at his life for a reason. He was no fool, and he knew when to use force against the innocent.
He was a survivor, so a survivor like him would probably end the life of those that surrounded him, in case the topic of our discussions were to get out.
But for discussions to begin, first, we have to secure a level of trust between ourselves, and he won’t let someone like me come close to him, no matter how curious he is.
So I spoke one thing to him. "You are the one who saved my old friend, didn’t you? The friend who helped you meet up with the Radiant Order?" Those words were enough to prove that I was not some ignorant man who entered his hands out of co-incidence.
I was here for a purpose. And that purpose was something only someone like him could fulfill.
And it would seem that my words did end up working. "You.’ After a bit of contemplation, he allowed me to meet with him privately in his tent which was soon covered in a magical circle.
As for me, the moment I entered the tent, I requested some clothes from the prince and changed right in front of him after taking the form of a small dwarf.
"You are a dwarf?" And he seemed surprised by my existence. Well, it’s not like I don’t understand. In Cynark, dwarves were skill pretty exotic and only a few dwarven families lived under the protection of old noble families. So seeing one so free might have been surprising for him.
"Are you from..." And before he could come to any wrong conclusion, I shook my head and replied. "I am not from Pulgasiri...but Yethel," I explained while sitting in a distance away from Ludwig, who seemed to be surrounded by his Knights, who all seemed to be looking at me as if I was some dead man.
This was to be expected, the fact that a man like him, who used to suffer from constant assassination attempts gave a dangerous stranger from an enemy country to get this close was bizarre enough. But it also goes to show how open-minded this man was.
"Then dwarf from Yethel, what is it that you want with me?" He asked, and I could only think for a bit before directly speaking. "A passage inside the Mage institute, especially the Lucius abode. And in return for that, I can end the life of that annoying brother of yours."
At my words, the eyes of Ludwig shined for a bit before turning dark.
It was only now that he understood how his cousin Amir must have felt all those months ago. ’How much is this man aware of me?’ Ludwig wondered if there were some informants or rats hidden among his men who had a way of breaking the vow of contract that he had made everyone sign before their employment.
But that was where he differed from Amir. "Oh, can you do it?"
