Chapter 436: 7.12.4 Time to go back.
There was no special treatment given to Amir when he returned. Things were hectic and after being given an armor apt for his position along with a pistol holding Anti-ghouls bullets, Amir was sent out.
The only melee weapon he had on his back was a battle knife that had become the new norm these days due to its versatility, while the swords were barely in circulation and were mostly used by Knights lineages who had learned it since childhood.
But with time, when people slowly gave up honor in pursuit of efficiency, the swords were dropped for blades which were easier to learn and a lot more durable.
And Amir didn’t mind the feel of a blade, it was just a giant Knife, nothing more.
Most were given for self-defense, as the strength of a Knight still lay in their bloodline. ’Except for me.’
A knight’s Aura can only show its destructive powers when using a medium to channel it, otherwise, channeling it through flesh can cause serious harm to the body.
"They really allowed you so easily?" Amir turned to look at his Knight who wore similar clothes as him, but from the looks alone, it would seem these clothes united Hemant a lot more.
"I have fought on the border before... so it wasn’t hard to get conscripted again." Hemant was active on the border of Sumire, which is where he had entered the eyes of Amir’s grandfather.
So to him, war was nothing new, what can be considered new would be the ghoul infestation that had been causing an issue recently.
However, the other factor that made it easier to join the lord in this war was the lack of soldiers, and any help was welcomed by the military. As the ghouls were not their only enemy.
Countless experts have already determined that this incident will definitely be exploited by the country of Yethel. Which would cause further stress on the war front.
Sadly, there was no war fortress to suppress all enemies at once.
"Let’s go then." There was no special treatment given to them since the red alert, he was treated like other Captains, but lacking any team of his own. Instead, while being a commander-level figure with his Master ranked strength, he still had to work under an Adept-level Captain as an Elite Soldier.
If it was any other time, he could be treated as a proper captain anywhere he goes, but with his capabilities still not confirmed, he can only act as an elite soldier whose only good point is his strength, and he has to hence work under people with actual authority.
"I understand the difference in position, but experience in war is always more important, and I hope that Prince Amir can overlook any slights I might cause to you during the operation." Of course, the captain was still human in the end, very much aware of his position and the nature of some noble families, he knew what to say and made sure that he didn’t cause displeasure to Amir.
Of course on the inside, he was cursing his fate at his commander for throwing such a hot potato at his hand. But such contemplations will always remain thoughts and nothing more.
"I understand, but don’t mind me, and lead us as you have always done till now." And Amir didn’t mind it, nor did he appear arrogant due to his identity as well as his training. Learning things and applying them during a crisis is different. And Amir was all the more happy that there was someone taking the responsibility, which gave him more time to take on simpler tasks, which only require brute force.
And in case things did go bad, there was Hemant, who could handle any trouble that would be sent their way.
And so, their journey began.
There was no time to go to his old camp, nor did he have time to visit Sector 32 to convene with Commander Faust. ’There is little chance that they will deploy the Mage armor for such a simple issue.’
But enough about his commander, Amir currently traveled on a truck along with many others next to him, none of whom dared to speak a word in Amir’s presence, which in Amir’s eyes was not good. So he asked his captain about the mission and what he had to do specifically.
"Just defense?"
And it turned out, his job was nothing more than defending the mortal soldiers that carried the flamethrower on their back along with the soldiers that carried napalm canisters as well as explosives made to level caves.
"These are vermin only posing a threat due to their quantity, flames are enough to deal with them." And although Amir, did find this a bit too simple, he still chose to listen to his captain and follow his command to boot.
This is what he had planned since beforehand.

On the other side, unlike Amir, Ludwig was someone famous for his commanding skills, so he was able to have his own little platoon made up of his own men. Some of whom were actually Knights.
And the job he got was a lot more dangerous as well.
Scout work.
Looked down by most among the nobles as it was hard to earn honor through it, but Ludwig thought differently.
Being a scout is being the first in the line of fire, you have to go behind the enemy territory to learn what they are planning and bring that knowledge back to your camp.
There is a reason why most of the scouting was forced upon criminals. It was the only method for them to lower their sentences, which might have contributed to the dirty stigma Scout’s work held. But why should it matter to Ludwig?
He looked at all of it differently, to begin with.
The crows he could summon were nothing special like Amir’s, nor was he stupid enough to waste his blood on summoning a huge amount that would be determinant to his health. Instead, he just summoned a total of 10, each hiding inside the mouth of his men, through which he can easily keep track of their movements, and know if they are in danger.
And in case they do face danger, the crow can act as a life insurance for his men, which is just perfect.
’This is how you should use it.’ Ludwig thought while drinking a bottle of potion, before taking out a small piece of contract scroll.
A scroll that caused Sarlen to ask. "Lord, are you sure, you rarely use something as important as this?"
"Only summoning bloodlines and mages can enjoy this, and for mages, it’s not even that important, but for us Knights, the value of this scroll is unimaginable." This was the scroll he obtained from Amir not too long ago, and after hearing the background of this scroll, Ludwig didn’t deny this gift from Amir.
This thing was valuable, more to him than to Amir.
He was not strong like Amir, nor did had lack enemies, unlike Amir who seemed free from major influences.
And if not for that fateful encounter, he would have long been dead. A fateful encounter that only happened because Ludwig had cultivated the habit of collecting the good things to gift to others in order to buy their loyalty.
It’s using this method that he has survived this long, and hence, Ludwig is always on the lookout for curious things and uses most of the profits he creates from his business to buy things that aren’t available in the market so easily.
With few exceptions of course. There are a few objects that Ludwig doesn’t mind using for himself, things that can ensure his survivability.
"Then why the delay lord? With the war on the horizon, it’s best if you use it at the fastest, for who knows what might happen later." There were howls of ghouls coming around all over them, with sounds of gunshots soon after.
There was a war going on above their head, there were not many ghouls in their area compared to others, but what they were guarding against were never the ghouls, to begin with, they were humans, the most treacherous enemies that could possibly exist.
"Ok, there is no need to delay this stuff." The only reason Ludwig had waited this long was for one reason only.
Why not discuss it with me?’
This gift was given in exchange for Sehra’s slights on Ludwig before, but why did the Tower master give this to Amir, instead of him, the affected party?
’But seeing again, there is nothing wrong in the contract, using it won’t cause any harm.’ Well whatever the reason was, he chose to just use it.

"This seems much better than I anticipated." The little seed I planted before had germinated and was showing its effect perfectly.
But I didn’t know why these little things were so agitated. I can think of a reason or two, but mostly it was the effect of their King. Who seemed much closer than I had anticipated he would be.
"It was definitely him." I can remember that face anywhere, no matter how many times Farhad changed it. My old friend hadn’t learned that you have to face that sour mood of yours if you hope to fool someone.
Of course, I can’t say for sure if what I saw was correct or not. As most of the images I saw through Hemant were blurry, the only thing I could clearly make out was the voices or thoughts of Hemant. But with those things alone I can confirm that my old friend had long reached Durum.
’Should I go?’ Things were getting crazier, and I had also sent some of the information of ghoul sightings that Hemant received to some commanders who were aware of my existence. Informing them where the ghoul activity will be lighter and such.
This meant that the war could start at any point now, which also meant that it was time for me to go back and join the fight with Henkle if I wished to enjoy the war in its truest sense.
’But plans change I guess.’
